  • Really nice man, been looking for a little help making this effect!

  • This is very cool!

But just one thing: VHS isn't HD. ;)

  • didnt the fractal noise part take ages?

  • @RotundaAmusements You're being sarcastic, right?

  • @leemailme sorry no, why?

  • @leemailme sorry no, why?

  • This helps a ton! Thanks!

  • great look

  • Exceptionally helpful — thank you for being so generous with this knowledge!

  • Dude! You are a golden god!! Thanks so much for the description on how you did this...I have been trying to get this effect for a week! Thank you thank you thank you!

  • Probably the most vague and unclear... and vague... I have ever read. Guess you don't want other people to easily learn how to do it.

I will compliment you on your expert technique though.

  • How was this done?

  • Really nice, but would've been even better if you applied a letterbox - after all, there was no true widescreen on VHS tapes.

  • I remember colors being more milky and washed out in the 80's.

  • wow, that looks real..!!!

  • Nice, this will come in handy in a near future project :D

  • Must have a tutorial!

  • This is fantastic. This is the best example of AE-done VHS noise I've ever seen.

  • Very nice, you should did a tutorial

  • awesome effect dude. I'm trying to replicate something similar meself but I'm having trouble with the fractal noise. Did you mask every single individual line from a full sized solid with the fractal noise on? Or did you have a quicker way to get the tracking effect?

It's doing me tits in. Any help would be mucho appreciated dude.

  • What about the sound?

  • @zxz1997 I'm a motion graphics guy, not a sound designer.

  • What about the sound?

  • Awesome recreation!, any tutorial for this? I mean the tape scratch looks very realistic.

  • pretty cool...but why ha. did u shoot the orig footage urself?

  • The footage is stock from Digital Juice's HD Videotraxx collection. And I made it partly as an experiment, and partly as a personal challenge.

  • watch the very beginning of the music vid for snoop dogg's 'sensual seduction.' you can find it on youtube...i thought maybe it was really played thru a vhs, but maybe they just created that look same as you in AE
