no it's not... the engine will suck air in regardless of it being forced in. It doesn't HURT to put a fan on the intake, but the cars CAN overheat. Some cars also have an airflow sensor near the radiator. If no airflow is detected, the engine will run in limp mode as a precautionary measure.
i highly doubt that otherwise in traffic your car would overheat everytime, the cooling system functions regardless of fast or slow moving air. The engine however needs a rapid and constant flow of air to function at it's peak hence why they are doing a dyno test to see it's peak performance.
I agree. I love the Look of this car but i am not impressed with the engine. I do not think this car should be so slow. I mean the acceleration is the same as the S8. I wanna see how the V10 will perform. Audi says something like 3.9 secs. 0-100
That will be interesting to see, and technically now that Audi owns Lamborghini, I wouldn't be surprised to see Audi's badge on a Lamborghini platform. Audi should definitely be doing more with their R8 though, I mean crap, if the E63 Mercedes Wagon can outrun this thing, then Audi needs to do some additional work!
if you read the side bar they are testing their new exhaust, if you watch the whole video it shows them looking at their active exhaust valve in action so that figure is what they got after installation of their exhaust system

funny how they have the fan on the front of a mid mounted engine car. Your suppose to ram air in the side vents. amazing car
HugMyNutz 2 years ago 3
the radiator is still in the front.
NorthShoreInnovation 2 years ago
yeah the fan is for airflow to the engine not to cool it down.

NorthShore is right, this is done to cool the engine down, not to provide air.
Every car has a small fan in the front which turns on if the car is running idle to long because its going to overheat otherwise.
You often see people with overheated engines when its really hot outside and they got stuck in traffic for a long time.
speedsociety 2 years ago
@HugMyNutz. the radiators are in the front, the "side vents" are there for the engine to breath, not to cool.

Gotta say, I'm not very impressed with the R8, I like Audi, don't get me wrong, but the R8 just doesn't do it for me. My opinion anyway! :P

@Cptwhawkins why is it unlikely. Some people just work harder than others, simple as.

Sure its not because you cant afford the extras ;)

Any chance you could just get the exhaust noise from accelerating/revving the engine or anything?
That would be great!!

wow 391whp, thats like 470-480hp at the crank with 22-25% drivetrain loss, thats amazing.
Areku06 4 years ago
I think that's the correct 'flywheel' HP, it usually is the biggest figure on those graphs ;)
NiallOswald 3 years ago
no flywheel hp is 420 on those cars.
3l1t355 3 years ago
And you think loss through the 4WD system is only 7%?

what does the exhaust valve do?
NanoFSITurbo 4 years ago
Changes the sound of the exhaust, so quiet at town/low-rev speeds, then loud as at full whack!
