  • 8:03 there is a bullet in the background

  • waxing = good but the cleaning just don't put that fire water on your board just use a brush

  • you can wax my "snowboard" ;)

  • @MrBookluck We would be happy to, bring it buy, you can even watch!

  • @surfsidetech Could you use a car buffer for when you buff out the base

  • @xXNICEXxish No, because you don't want to go in circular motions. Just buff it out with a medium brush, but, not like waxing a car, do horizonal passes, working your way down the board.

  • Comment removed

  • @surfsidetech Thanks for all the help man. Haha Im coming back to this video with my future questions. ( Probably sooner than later lol)

  • Oh, haha do I feel stupid, thought it was some type of snowboard term. And I don't have citrus based cleaner but I was thinking of using lemon juice mixture with water or something, would that work just as good ?

  • @DaJewBurna Just go to the hardware store and get some citus-acid based cleaner. Lemon juice is not going to work! You are the funniest poster by far, but I admire your inovation. The cleaner is made with the oil from the peals, not the juice..

  • ok im looking at this wax..

SwixSport Universal Wax 180g - Dick's Sporting Goods

would this be good? sorry haha im a noob at this and want to get it right. also whats the "g" stand for after the numbers? thanks!

  • @DaJewBurna Ha! "G" stands for grams, and yes, that should be fine.

  • Universal wax, is that what I need ?

  • @DaJewBurna Yes. I don't want to confuse you, but, there are different kinds of All Temp as well.. Rule of thumb, the more it costs, the better the wax! We sell an all temp at our store that we all use on our own personal boards. It's called " Toko hot wax Racing Service". It works insane, and costs about $20. a bar. We get about 10 wax jobs per bar, you might get less. Dakine, Swix, and several others put out some good products as well.

  • @surfsidetech What could i use to clean the base other than citric acid?

  • @BORR1S491 All kinds of stuff will work, but, you could get cancer from them, or, blow yourself up..

  • Can you use rubbing alchohol instead of the fire stuff?

  • @vlad1076 Rubbing alchohol doesn't work that well. Go to your local hardware store and get some Citric-Acid based cleaner. There are all kinds of different brands.

  • @younie77

They are all over on the Internet just type in snowboard iron. I bet there on @surfsidetech's website.

  • where can i buy one of these irons? ive been looking EVERYWHERE for one.

  • @younie77 We are sold out of Irons unfortunately. The Dakine "Super Tune" kit comes with an Iron though, and a ton of other goodies!

  • Could I use rub on wax and use the melting technique you did ? Does it matter which wax I use ?

  • @DaJewBurna No, you can't use rub on wax the way we show in the video. Hot wax is sold by the bar, and we sell it in our store, but, I'm not sure if it's on our website. There are different kinds of hot wax for different conditions, but, you can't go wrong with an "all temp".

  • One last question. Does it matter what wax I use to wax the board ? Like could I buy rub on WAx and use the melting iron technique u you used in the video ?

  • @surfsidetech

Hey, will you take a look at your video about base repair? I had a question about it and I put a post up, but I noticed this video is much more popular and you probably don't check the others as often...

  • @D0cHoliday1 If you have any questions in the future, ask them in this video. This is the only one we check on a regular basis. Thanks, and I answered your question in the base repair video.

  • Thanks alot ! Any other tips for summer storage ?

  • @DaJewBurna Nope, just clean the board and load it up with wax, store in a cool dry place.

  • Thanks! And what's your take on using a clothes iron ? It's the only iron I have and don't want to drop 80 bucks on a snowboard iron.

  • @DaJewBurna i got my demon iron for 25 bucks

  • @DaJewBurna We used one in the shop for a couple of days when both of our snowboard irons died! Just make sure it's not too hot, just hot enough to melt the wax on. If it starts smoking, turn it down. Oh, and don't iron anymore clothes with that iron..

  • I have my first board and I bought it used. But now it's time for summer storage. Should I leave the wax on through summer then scrape it before the next season ? And before I wax should I scrape the board to see if there is any old wax on it ? Thanks !

  • @DaJewBurna Clean the board first with the citric acid based cleaner, that should remove all the old wax and grime. Leave the wax on it. That will protect the edges from rusting, then, scrape it next season.

  • I know the local yahoos at the board shop don't take care of my baby like this guy...so now I'm going to do it myself. What a GREAT video. Thank you for showing the proper labor-intensive techniques!

  • So i just got my board waxed at a shop and i could scrape more wax off, should i? or will it wreck the wax job?

  • @boarddude97 I would really have to see it in person to comment on it. Most pro shops do a good job.

  • Thanx for that fast answer :)

  • Thanx for that nice tutorial! I just Wanna know, how do you call that yellow brush again?

  • @MatTheBat738 It's called a "horse-hair" brush. I'm not sure if it's really made from horse's hair, but, it buffs out snowboards great!

  • Our wax comes from Toko. We use warm, all temp, cold, and flourinated race wax. He was using the standard all temp on that board. In my opinion, the flourinated race wax is the best, but, it's pricie. We sometimes apply Blue (cold) to the outside edge area of the base for durability in colder snow.

  • what kind of pad do you use, i know it is the scotch brite pad but like how rough of soft do i want it and where can i buy it.

  • Anyone know what wax he was using or what tempurature wax it was?

  • I love waxing my board. Its like i add a little of my vibe to the board. maybe its just me

  • Hello, i have a DC PBJ and it has like little holes in it (it came with those holes when i bought it) they sad it a new technoligie and it makes you faster.. How could i do it with mine now?^^

  • @TheSapphireflyer Wax it like any other board, just buff out the base with a fine brush. We wax them all the time. It's called a "structurn" base.

  • @surfsidetech Thank you very much ! :) Worked well

  • Duke is awesome. I want to see him on the hill. I bet he's gnarly.

  • @runningdog1911 Duke is only Gnarly cause he's old! Most people his age use walkers.. It is said he's ridden with the likes of Craig Kelly, Jamie Lynn, Brian Iguchi, and Dave Downing. It is not said that he was able to keep up with them after getting off the chair lift though!

  • @surfsidetech thanks a lot for all the help

  • where do you get that "fire water" stuff?

  • @MrSnoogsypoo We sell it at our store. I think we even have it on our website, but, I was at Home Depot yesterday and saw they sell "citric acid" based cleaners that should work quite well too, but they're not called "Chief Firewater"..

  • Thanks man you're awesome ! Now my board is at its best :D

  • The base of my board is completely black so it's pretty noticeable when there is a scratch or anything else. You know how a car looks in the winter time with the salt on the sides, well thats how my base looks after one or two days using it after I wax it. Am I doing something wrong?

  • @joshwords You could try using a colder wax right along the edges. It is much more resistant to abrasive colder snow than regular or warm weather wax. Just apply it to the edge area, and, use regular wax on the rest of your board. Make sure to scrape it all off, and, keep in mind, it is much harder to scrape than regular wax..

  • @surfsidetech That's great, thank you.

Is man-made snow generally colder than natural snow?

  • @joshwords Actually no. Your problem may be that you're base isn't clean enough before waxing. Generally speaking, man made snow is way dirtier than natural snow because the snow cats are grooming it all of the time and the disel fuel gets all over the snow. If you're base isn't clean, the wax won't even stick to it properly. With a black base it's hard to tell how dirty your base really is, so, clean it throughly before you wax it next time with a citric acid based cleaner.

  • @surfsidetech Okay, thank you.

  • what is that snowboard?? burton???

  • @joeburgess7 It was a Forum from a couple of year's ago. Their high-end expensive board. I forget the name of it.

  • @surfsidetech Thank You very much. : )

  • Now that's what I call a good tech!!! I wish there was more that were dedicated to doing a good job like that!!!!!

  • IDK wth is my comment but it did work.

  • eek, just did my first wax and I was scraping it wrong

  • i like the bottom of that board...

  • kk thanks

  • do i have to take off the bindings when i wax it will it effect anything because other people in videos did but this guy seems to know what he is talking about so idk?

  • @buttawaxskateboardin The only difference with the bindings on is that the inserts from where the bindings are mounted from the top of the board make the base of the board dimple where the holes are. You just need go buff the excess wax out of them. Some boards dimple worse than others, but, it's really no big deal.

  • if i used a normal clothes iron would that work or no ?

  • @xxxnigel336xxx Yup, but be careful not to get it too hot. If it's smoking, turn down the heat!

  • Do you have to take the bindings off when you wax a snowboard?

  • @armyofplastic No. Just leave them on if they're already on.

  • @surfsidetech okay thanks

  • So you out wax on then take it off?

  • so i watched pretty much snowboard maintenance vid´s.

This one is really the best.It explains everything and hes going for important details.

I like to service my board myself cause there are so many "bad" tech out there.

    He knows what hes doing.

    Nice Vid man.

  • @illdieyoung I get what you're saying. I've seen some real "hacks" out there. I learned from the best, and he was very maticulous about how the boards should be done. He had a legitiment reason for the way he did everything. It was his way or the highway! When we get new employees in who claim to know how to do just about everything that has to do with snowboard repair, I simply had them a board, ask them to wax it, and judge their "expertise" from there. Most of them do it wrong. I re-teach.

  • when i drip the wax on, it like immediatly becomes a solid..is my board not warm enough? or is it just the wax im using? also, I have the DC PLY so can you tell me anything about to take care of it becuase of the dimples on the base and stuff

  • @MrSnoogsypoo You might be using "cold" wax, that dries super fast and hard. If it flys off while you're ironing, try lifting the iron up, and, setting it down on the dried wax. Most wax does dry pretty quick when you drip it off the iron though. I wouldn't worry about it.. You're DC has what's called a "structurn" base. It has a bunch of little divots in it. Wax it exactly the same. A fine (we use a horse-hair brush) brush comes in handy for buffing it out.

  • @surfsidetech ohh i see... great video by the way!

  • 0:07- 0:12 "He likes the way I wax 'em"

    Made me chuckle

  • he said fucker

  • Just got a brand new board, Salomon Ace Wide... do I need to wax it before its first use? I have heard conflicting reports on this... :/

  • @BigJohn762mm Generally speaking, no. It should come with a factory wax. There's nothing better than a Hot-Iron on wax job with a premium wax, but, factory wax's are getting better and better. A quality hot wax job costs 20-30 dollars, depending on what wax is used. It couldn't hurt to wax your board, but, not necessary until the factory wax wears off.

  • What kind of board is the black one in the background? Looks like its a burton?

  • @treadstone721 That board is a Bataleon, not sure what model.

  • Can i use a regular iron without holes for steam insted of a iron made for this?

  • @Manfr3dich Sure, just make sure to keep it on a low setting, and, make sure there's no water in the iron.

  • i just watched this whole thing.. then i remembered.. i dont even have a snowboard..

  • @Casper2245 hahahhaah hi Tyler

  • @Iskate2metal hahaha oh hey casey

  • @surfsidetech Thanks for the tip, keep making videos:)

  • @dandaman720 I really want to make a video when we get a really gnarly repair in. We got one in last week that was so messed up the guy thought it was beyond repair. Our store manager told him to let Joe and Duke check it out before he gave up hope. This board was totally tweeked. Duke and Joe discussed it, and, Joe dug right in. Long story short: When the guy picked it up he could hardly tell where the repair was. I think we're going to start posting before/after shots on Surfside's facebook

  • what is the point of waxing a board if you are just gonna take it off again?

  • @igolf27 Actually, there is a fine layer of wax that remains no matter how much you scrape or buff. Thats the layer that you don't see, but it makes the board go super fast!

  • I wish I had a power mounted aparatis on a drill :(

  • @Iskate2metal A horse-hair brush works just as well, or a clean scotch brite pad. It's just takes a little longer. On my own boards I alway's brush it by hand, and, sometimes a cork, it takes a long time though.

  • you old guy, you are AWESOME!!

  • @sarteto Thanks! I'm in pretty good shape for 68 years old!

  • you are absolutely right about "pulling" with the scrapper instead of puching, ive been doing it wrong for years till i saw this video!

  • faved :)

  • thank you for this vid, i followed it on my first board which was used (very hard) and when i tested it out, it hauled ass :)

  • @meeks3081 Stoked it worked out for you!

  • can you just use a surf wax scrapper to scrape the wax off?

  • @diegoshredsbicycles No, surf wax combs or scraper's are too soft and bend. Basically, anything that is made of "plexiglass" will work well.

  • @surfsidetech ohh ok thank you

  • What do you call your power buffing apparatus attachment? And/or where would it be found?

  • @25kmurph I think we get them from Toko or Swix, or Sun Valley ski tools. I've always called it the "buffer brush, with rod that attaches to a drill"! Sorry I couldn't be more helpful on that one..

  • @25kmurph I just checked. It's called a "roto brush", available from Sun Valley ski tools.

  • Now there's how to properly wax a board :) thanks for the vid!

  • @preat0 Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching!

  • Just finished my first board wax :) thanks surfsidetech. Lol you didn't mention how much of a pain it is to scrape off all the wax. Worth it though

  • @Theboywithjoy The hardest part of waxing a board is scraping it! Sharpen your scraper flat with a file. That will make it much easier to scrape. You'll also learn some techniques to make it easier the more you do it. Congratulations on doing your first board!

  • Do I need to clean the board before waxing if it is brand new or can i just wax it straight away?

  • @tidydannyboy i would say yes.. especially to make sure the wax has something to stick to

  • @tidydannyboy If it's a brand new board, just go over it with a dry cloth to make sure there is no dust on it.

  • @surfsidetech Thanks :-)

  • Really enjoyed this video! Thanks a lot for taking the time to make this!

  • @m4rcus567 Our pleasure, thanks for checking it out!

  • Can you guys make a vid on rusted edges. I had it and I really could have used a how to fix it vid or a how to prevent it vid. Loved the waxing how to by the way very helpful.

  • @dandaman720 Rusted edges are common, and diffcult to totally prevent, but, you can do a lot to keep them at a minimum. First, always dry your snowboard off after using it. No matter how hard you try, there will still be moisture between the edge and the base, but, don't worry about that. The most important thing is that you don't store it in a bag. Store it in a dry enviroment.

  • but you need to scrape off the wax on the edges on the tip and the tail as well, don't you? i'm just wondering, cause i didnt see him doing it in the video.. cheers

  • @EasyEisfeldt Yes, scrape it all.

  • hey i just purchased a complete wax kit and it came with i think glue sticks and im not sure what they are for at all?can you help

  • @burton4lifee The "glue sticks" are for fixing gouges in the base, and, have nothing to do with waxing. See if there are any instructions within the kit for base repair. It is good to know how to do it, but, if your base is gouge free, or just have small scrapes, it's not necessary. If you have larger gouges, they should be fixed, but, I suggest you have them professionally done at a repair shop if their too large.

  • @surfsidetech so I have Murphy Oil Soap wood cleaner with "natural orange oil". Would that be okay?

  • @Theboywithjoy It's hard to say. I've never used it, and I'm not sure what else is in it. All I can say is give it a try on a small area to see if it works. It may have other things in it though that contaminates the base and won't allow the wax to adhere properly. I seriously doubt it could hurt you or your board though. After you dry it off, throughly, see if there is any oily residue left on the base. If there is, I would use something else.

  • is it better to have an iron that stays a contest tempature? if so any suggestions?

I have a dakine iron right now but it heats up cools then heats up again.

  • @sexwax10 I know what you're talking about. Most irons in the 20-39 dollar price range do what you're describing. The Irons we use at the shop cost much more, around $80., but are much more consistant in their tempetures. I still think that if I were you, or any person only doing my personal or friends boards, I would use the cheaper irons and resist the urge to turn up the heat. I know it's a pain, but its also way less expensive, and, you're not doing 20 or more boards in one night.

  • I have 3 different color wax, but i dont have the temperature range! Bleu, White and light orange (same then you) Could you tell me witch color apply to witch weather. Thank you

  • @ChasesSnow Blue is usually a cold wax, but to really tell; Try melting, and spreading a little bit of each color of wax on different areas of the snowboard. Let each section cool. Scrape off each area seperatly. The more"gummy" the wax when you scrape it usually means warmer wax, the dryer, less gummy scraping's means middle of the spectrum cool, to very cold.

  • citric acid base cleaner? is that the same thing as Citrus Degreaser?!

  • @tiffanyrowland13 I think that it might be. Try it, it should work.

  • do you havwe to have a special iron

  • @czballers No, but make sure you don't get what ever iron you're using too hot, just hot enough to melt and spread the wax, no smoking irons!

  • the best video about waxing in the internet !

    You're the man !

  • @Wookation Thanks!

  • Great video

  • Thanks so much! That was super helpful.

  • its big Z from surfs up!! cool vid thanks

  • @mrkhende Thanks for checking it out!

  • So it's ok to wax your board with the bindings in? Could you make a quick video on the differences? Thanks mate!

  • @TheSnowboardLifestyl We would, but, there really isn't any difference except you will have the bindings under the area you are waxing, and, may see divots on the base where the binding inserts are. Just make sure to get the excess wax out of the divots with the corner of your scraper.

  • @surfsidetech Thank you guys so much! I just waxed my first board and I think it went really well! I'll get back you all tomorrow on how it rides!

  • where can i find fire water? online?

  • @BsMcLuvinBeach We sell the same thing on our website, but, it's a different brand called "Big Swell wax remover". It's vitually the same thing as "Firewater". You can also go to your local hardware store, or even large grocery store and purchase a citric acid based household cleaner. If it smells like orange peals, it will probably work.

  • i really enjoy your vids. pretty new as a tech but ive been on a crash course since i started following my boss abrupt departure and left the shop to me and one person i work with. its basically it only four of us that are just startin and the shop isnt too big (no machines just manual labor). ive used your vids to teach myself and solidify my learnings. Because of the down economy and the undisclosed company i work for, epairs for snow equipment is low on the budget. sucks but what can you do

  • @csbrwn233 Happy the vids help you. We started out the same way as you. I learned ski repair from an old Austrian guy. When we started selling snowboards in the late 80's, early '90's, it all translated to Snowboards. As we built our reputation, work increased enough to buy the machines. Just have pride in your work, and go the extra mile for your customers. Keep them stoked even if it takes you a little longer. Good luck in the future!

  • would vinegar work as a replacement to fire water?

  • whats the purpose of waxing if your just gunna scrape it off, thought wax was made it run smooth anyway, and also why are there spot wax kits, where you wax on-the-run, do you need to scrape those as well? just trying to figure out when and when not to wax my deck. thanks dude ( or scrape it..)

  • @whydoesthismattr Aight so melt on wax is much different than paste wax. When you iron on the wax, you get a more permanent, smoother wax that fills in scratches as well. You scrape it so there's a thin layer on the base of your board and it makes you go fast as hell while protecting your board. That paste/rub on is good for if you're lazy or you want to race where you need a quick wax but it's weak and only lasts for a couple hours whereas the iron on lasts for a couple days.

  • @sourcerror5 I agree!

  • @whydoesthismattr If you don't scrape it and buff it it's almost a bad as not waxing the board at all.. The wax actually goes into the pores of the ptex, so , you don't scrape it all off.

  • and also how much would this cost to get it down by a shop?

  • @andig4 $25. for a hot wax and edge.

  • @surfsidetech Ye searched online for abit and found a sexy huge store about 5 mins away which costs £20 (since im in london) which is cheap :P

  • should i wax my new board before its first use? or do i use it then wax it please answer l0l (newbie here)

  • @andig4 wax it first and then use it! lol

  • @MatrixMonk17 Cheers :)

  • @andig4 Wax your new board, they usually don't come pre-waxed, but don't do the edges. You can make some adjustments if you're advanced and know your style well, such as detuning the nose and tail edges but let's not get into that. Bottom line is wax your board and it will slide great that first day on the slopes.

  • @sourcerror5 Awesome, cheers and ye lets not confuse me with all the advanced shit hahahaha :P

  • @andig4 All of the snowboards we sell in our store come pre-waxed. You can get it waxed when it's new, (You'll probably get better wax than is done at the factory.)

  • @surfsidetech Ye im gonna take it in a few days before i leave for the Alps :)

  • @andig4 Have fun!

  • @surfsidetech Thanks :)

  • would antibacterial wipes work instead of the fire water?

  • @jessebranstetterbmx Nope. Citric acid based cleaners are the best.

  • how many times should you wax your board a season?

  • @MatrixMonk17 It all depends on the base of your board, sintered bases hold wax much better than extruded bases but either way, you should wax your board about every 4 or 5 days. It's not essential that you do and you could probably get away with waxing the base maybe every 8 days. Look at the base around the edges and if it's white and dry looking, give it a good wax.

  • @MatrixMonk17 You should wax your snowboard every 3-5 riding days, depending on the conditions, (Colder conditions remove wax faster) and the base on your snowboard.( Sintered bases hold wax much longer than extruded bases.)

  • @surfsidetech would I be able to use Fantastic antibacterial all purpose cleaner to clean my snowboard?
