They all learned huge amounts from CPE , Mozart said "He is the Master and we are the pupils"It was CPE`s output and learning that formed the bridge to the music of the 19th century.
If I praise one work by JC, and note how musical talent ran in that family, it does not mean, excitable reader, that J.S. Bach is not of the greatest composers (top four?), nor that his sons could not compose delightful somethings now and then. Your ardent love for Papa Bach is commendable. May I assume that you also love Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner & Brahms? If not, gentlemen can disagree.
Like father (JS), like son (JC); but the bridge to Haydn and Mozart is clear. A beautiful andante. I wonder what dance would be suitable? Thanks, poster!
@tonebuff Are you crazy? While many members of the Bach family all composed music and almost all are comparable to Johann Sebastian, Johann Christian is almost not at all comparable to his father or even the rest of his family. If you heard Johann Christian's work juxtaposed with that of the rest of his family, not knowing all of it came from the Bach family, but knowing something didn't belong, you'd say J.C. Bach's work was that which didn't come from the same source.
@trooubermensch The reason he sounds so different to the rest of the family is due to his long tenure in London. His output was influenced by Arne,Boyce and Avison.Hence his soubriquet "The London Bach",with many of his concerts promoted by Johann Peter Salomon,a London Impressario. He held sway there for a number of years, then fell into obscurity, and died 10 years later in poverty,a tragedy.
