  • I LOVE you SIR U R GENIUS . but i have some problem that will really amaze u as well . can i ask u ?

  • and in past perfect it would be 'My car had finally gotten fixed' ?

  • @llizsm -- Yes, but you might want add something to that. It depends on the situation. If you create a past conditional sentence or if you are using reported speech, it's possible.

  • @learnamericanenglish I see, another doubt that i have is how to use 'get' in present continuous. it would be 'my car is getting repaired by the mechanic'. thank you very much for your help and also for the video.

  • oh please I need more examples :\

  • I am an Indian n a student of English literature.... read a lots of english. but when it comes to grammar. I feel very confusing.....

can you tell me the sentence above written by me has any error?

  • @meghasweety003 -- Yes. Say, "I feel very confused."

  • passives are more complicated man!

  • @lmtwinkle -- Well, would you use "get" with the word "justified?" Good communication is dependent on making good word choices. The example you provide sounds kind of odd to begin with.

  • Paul, you are very clear with your explanations, and besides that you are an angel for not charging a penny for all the knowledge you spread around the planet. Thanks and God bless ya¡

  • the lamp got broken???? it just doesn't sound like proper English to me.... if i was to say that out aloud it would sound uneducated, almost slang... i would just say 'the lamp broke'. Is it because it's American English????

  • Gotten so sucks!!! Especially if you use it in Europe ... people will walk away from you! It is outdated... what is wrong with Pres perfect?

  • It's American English, dude. Chill out.

  • thank you, your explanations was very useful, greetings from Berkeley CA

  • In "my car gets fixed" why does get have an s and in "does your car get fixed" why does get not have an s?

    what's the rule?

  • Swytek,

You must always use the simple form of the verb after do, does, did, can, must, should, etc. In the question, "Does your car get fixed" the auxiliary "does" shows that it it's third person singular, not the conjugation of "get". Therefore it is not necessary to show it again with the -s after get. I hope this explains it.

  • Hi SOED00,

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, the verb "get" seems to have a little more energy than the verb "be," so when used in place of "be" in the passive voice, it feels a little stronger. Remember, the passive voice is often not better than the active voice, but you have to know both because English speakers use both.

    Paul

  • Excellent Lesson! I didn't know that the verb Get could replace Be to form the passive voice.I'm a self taugth english student and I find your lessons very helpful!!!!!

    Thanxs! keep on doing this!
