I don't think it's pressure sensitive. You could still use it tap pad style but, you might also break it that way. @j0hnyd42

no they aren't.. I own one.. I was amazed it isn't pressure sensitive.. they would sell FAR more if it was.. also not just ableton compat.. other things do the "trigger" type arrange... e.g latest sonar etc

yea i totally agree, i would have gotten it if it weren't for those two points, i went ahead and got myself an mpd24 which is pretty awesome and ive got one of those nanokontrols by korg which integrates pretty well with live

there aren't enough pads on the mpd24 for me.. I use my launchpad for making up breaks some of the times .. so take elements from 2-4 at a time.

Yeah I feel you, I do the same thing when "performing", no set structure just launchin clips, beat repeats, filters etc..

when WE do improv beat sessions it's like live looping bass lines, synth lines and then tappin' out beats on pads or jammin with a drumset.. usually only starts off with one or two sequenced clips and everything else is PLAYed on the spot..

Seeing as NSG made mixes for DJ hero, I'm sure he's more than capable of doing that style of improv, but it wouldn't be practical in this video cos as powerful as the launchpad is, it wouldn't be great on its own for loop making on the fly. It's great for that kinda stuff with a midi keyboard though!

flip on user1 mode and play it like a synth, that's a great way to show off even MORE capabilities of the launchpad.

mixes for DJ hero makes me LOL but it's just not my cup of tea.

whether or not you like the music styles in the game you have to admire the good work!

user 1 mode isn't great for playing synths, mostly due to the lack of velocity sensitivity. I much prefer my oxygen 8 for all that!

vel sens is pretty much over rated, in my opinion.

Throw a random velocity plug in before the synth and mapp out pitch bend and mod and you got yourself some means of expression.

Doesn't work for everyone, but it's fine for scetching out sub bass or dubstep lines..
