  • my favorite album from martha

    but not on cd

    why not

  • Well done.

  • muthu fuckin DansParc,Yo!!

  • have they uploaded the extended version of danseparc on their own channel? I dont usually like extended versions of songs but this one is better than the 3 minute ditty that youtube has.

  • mature evolution of the band GO VEGAN get pretty

  • Now THATS a DANCE !

  • "Will the way we dance always be the same?" Apparently not, Martha... ;-)

  • 0:21 - the old Inglis quotation sign along Gardiner Expressway. Is it still up? Is Mark Breslin still on the radio? I used to live in TO in the mid to late 1980s.

  • fantastic to hear this again THANKYOU A ZILLION TIMES !!!!!!

  • Pfft! They're Torontonians.

  • Incredible audio on this, thank you!

  • Used to hear this on CFNY and Chum-FM. My family and I would always laugh at the retardedness of it. I was a kid, so I enjoyed the saxaFART explosions after she says "Danse Parc!", my parents were yukking it up over the OCAD pretentiousness.

  • @doomryder - exactly how is it pretentious? I've always hated that word, though, as I had a teacher say my writing was pretentious when I was 12, and I proceeded to explain exactly what I meant and that I knew what every single word meant and signified, so she had to back down.

  • @Timmybear It's pretentiousness lies in the use of French rather than English. Colonial art student types have a demented mental defect which makes them think the French are smarter, more stylish and creative than us yokels. They could have said "Dance Park", but no, they hadda say "Danse Parc" which evokes images of art students wear leotards and SaranWrap doing interpretive "danse". It has unintentional comedy value, which is endearing, but I know they were very, very serious "Artistes".

  • @ErichVonNasty - They're Canadian. They're officially bilingual. :)

  • I spilt coffee on Mark, and he beat me with a baseball bat.

  • Glad to discover Martha and the Muffins on vinyl recently. Danseparc rocks!

  • some of the skyscrapers in the film of the city in this appeared on the cover of 'women around the world at work' original single.

  • Thank you for posting - I truly missed this song.

  • Yer a godsend for putting in the work on this haunting childhood memory, Whuntmore! I wrote this intro to entice my FB friends to watch it: "Can't find this moody nugget in any other form (I want it for my iPod). The insistent, rumbling bass, slicing guitar and disorienting swarm of voices in the bridge etched itself into my 12yr old brain...My impression of Canada at this time was created by 'Danseparc', 'Scanners' & 'Videodrome'! " It strikes a unique emotive chord from The Muffins' canon!

  • Glad you enjoyed it. Thx for the kind words.

  • Thank you so much for renovating this haunting childhood nugget, Whuntmore! This is what I posted to entice my friends on FB to watch it -many of whom used to be fellow obsessives, but lost their way ;-) : "Can't find this moody nugget in any other form (I want it for my iPod). The insistent, rumbling bass, slicing guitar and disorienting swarm of voices in the bridge etched itself into my 12yr old brain...My impression of Canada at this time was 'Danseparc', 'Scanners' & 'Videodrome'! "

  • total geeks - I love them!

  • One of my favorite bands.

But please, stuff some choreographers in a time machine and send them back to the set.

Jeez, they dance like Elaine Benes.

  • Martha and the Muffins are now uploading their videos to their own channel.

    user/marthaandthemuffins

  • I love these guys and I always thought they sounded a bit like the B52's sometimes.. Love the B52's as well.

  • Quite possibly one of the Muffin's most exciting and dangerous pop songs.

  • Interseting early low-budget music video. This is before they began making these things for a godzillion dollars. They sure dont make em like THIS anymore huh? I think it has a kinda spooky quality about it.

  • hey, IMHO a much better band than the somewhat overrated talkin heads!!!!

  • Great job. This vid captures all of the weirdness, the guarded coolness, and the breathless anticipation of the future... all from a 1982 point of view.

We were so far out on the cutting edge... we were so jaded... we were leading the way to a better way.

We were so innocent, and we were so gullible... we believed it all.

I love watching this stuff now!

  • these guys rocked it hard!!!! my favorites.

  • Man, if anyone has a copy, live or otherwise, of 'Walking into Walls' by these guys I'd sure get a kick out of it if youwere to post it. thanks, paulmaul

  • Down here this band are considered as one hit wonders, obviously us Canadians know a lot better.

  • I'm really surprised nobody has sampled the bassline in this song. It's hypnotic!

  • MATM are one of my favourite groups of all time!Martha Johnsons voice is like silk!-& in this video Jocelyne looks well fit! I Would recommend fans of this band to get their album ''THIS IS THE ICE AGE'' from 1981,its an absolute masterpiece & has recently been released on CD by the band themselves-with extra tracks-for the first time ever,it really is a fantastic album and well worth buying on ebay.MATM are one of the most overlooked bands of the late 70s-early 80s-not just a one hit wonder!

  • "Everyday its tomorrow ..."

This song is so hypnotic! Martha+Mark=genious!

  • It is so kind of you to have posted this video. I'm 50, and remember so well when this song came out. Even dough I was a riot at the time (and still am), always thought this was pure rock and roll. Compares to Bowie. Some of us rockers were drove into this kind of new music. It is so powerful. THANKS.

  • The outdoor parts of this video look like they were filmed on the grounds of the Guild Inn, a pastoral swath of land at the foot of the Scarborough Bluffs.

  • Ce sont des vrais Torontois a mon avis!!!!

  • Like WOW! I haven"t heard this in ions. Too cool!! This was the epitome of "MOD" music in the Winter of 1983 .They used to show this video over the dance floor on a giant screen at "688" in Atlanta. The floor would be packed and we literally would "tear it up" when this played. We did something of a modernized "jitterbug" in our berets and wrap around sunglasses wearing those bulky "boat neck" sweaters, "cigarette" leg pants, and those "Robin Hood" boots.Thank you for posting this, and the memory.

  • thank you for all the time you spent putting this in such a clear format for uploading! its lovely and i really appreciate it!

  • Thanks for the kind words. I really wanted to get this as good as I could. Glad you enjoy it.

  • I still maintain this songs has one of the best basslines in pop history. What a killer track!

  • I totally agree! the bridge is a more simple baseline, but still very smooth. Mostly with all the voice tracks at that point, you can still hear it really well, and everything else. Very well mixed. Not too compressed, or underdone. I also really like the sax on this one. Almost Jazz mixed in with Canadian New wave music.

  • Embarassing? I'm sorry, but I still think this video is out of this world. Great song and timely arthouse production. Essential!

  • I think they had fun doing this video. I'd rather watch this, then angry group members pretending to get along. Forcing smiles, and faking other emotions. You can tell they're all getting along with each other, having fun, making a video to a damn fine song.

  • Ah.. Danseparc was just reissued on CD! That's Jocelyne Lanois playing bass.. Daniel Lanois' sister. Daniel Lanois also produced the album.

  • The band are selling the CD on their website which comes with the bonus interview CD ParcTalk. The latter includes a new mix of Danseparc. Peter J. Moore (Cowboy Junkies) has done a superb job with the digital remastering. I could eat Jocelyne's bass guitar!

  • Hey Flashface!

that's great news. I'll have to check asap on the site. thanks for posting this.

  • I love this track! I have this album on vinyl. Wish I could find it on CD.

  • absolutely incredible dance moves

  • Got it! Romeo Void. This track is VERY Romeo Void. Art rock, experimental meets pop. Talking Heads, Muffins... Brian Eno. Whatever Happened To Valve Road?

  • Don't think Mystery Walk is remstered... YET. However, it does feature the hit single "Black Stations/White Stations" which is near legendary.

"Black Stations/White Stations... break down the door... this is 1984."

    Classic.

  • Was this Daniel Lanois' 2nd album that he produced for the Muffins? He produced 'This is the Ice Age' in 1981, 'Danseparc' in 1983 and 'Mystery Walk' in '84? Does anyone know if the band will reissue Mystery Walk as a digitially remastered disc with bonus tracks?

  • Don't know, but I can tell you on my copy of the Danseparc 12" remix, his name is on it. it says: produced by Daniel Lanois, with Mark Gain and Martha Johnson. it's not really a full album though...

I can't find anything to answer the second question... have you checked M+M site? does it have info on their discography?

  • Wikipedia shows this as Lanois' 10 record produced. The first was in 1974!

  • Here in Canada the release date is June 25.

    I got this email:

We are about to release the 25th anniversary CD reissue of 'Danseparc' on the 25th of June, which includes the original 12" dance remix and two other bonus tracks.

  • The bassline is mesmerizing. Fantastic.

  • Hey, speaking of Danseparc, the album is being reissued as a 25th Anniversary Edition on August 4th by Cherry Red. The entire album's been digitally remastered and includes 3 bonus tracks. The album was produced by Daniel Lanois and is by far the Muffins best album.

  • Folks: This is a UK release date for August the 4th.

I can't wait to hear the remix of Danseparc from the 12" which is also featured on this release.

  • I was astounded how "wild" they made the 12" remix of this song, really punched it up faster! Still have the vinyl 12" single of that, wish they'd put the remixes out on a CD :) Still, Martha and Mark are great folks and really do appreciate the continued support from fans :)

  • I didn't know that. I'll have to look for it. Does it sound disco? or even like dance music?

    what's it like?

  • The 12" mix is just a tad faster, with lots of bongos added, with a cool break in the middle where just the words "into the thick, into the night, into your arms in the failing light" repeated with just percussion. The track runs somewhere around 5 minutes. It's VERY danceable, but not "disco." The b-side track is called "These Dangerous Machines" and has vocal played backwards from the song "This Is The Ice Age."

  • Thanks for passing on the info! I'll look for it when I get a chance. I take it it's 12" plastic record.

  • Im looking for a Song which played in my Disco around 84-87,chorus oh oh oh oh its getting harder baby from M*m,anyone know this?

  • Don't get me wrong, I love M+M, but I will speak from an unbiased viewpoint for a moment: this has to be one of the worst videos ever made! What the heck is this supposed to be? lol

  • I read up on their site, and it's supposed to be part of a recurring dream she used to have as a child.

If you go to their site, and click on 'Song Stories' you can read up. I feel it could have been different, but I really like the song, and the music. I consider the video just another way to see the actual band members.

  • i'm a fan as well, but this video is among the most lame i've ever seen

  • Great work, it's much appreciated!

  • Great work, Whuntmore. Thanks a lot.

  • Awesome vid! I agree with the previous posts... great memories... Thanks for posting!

  • Wow.... 1983, one of the most under rated Canadian bands. Martha, Mark, you're both still amazing. Thank you for the memories.

  • Yeah, me too. I think this is one of my favs of this group.

  • Love this song! Brings back great memories.
