Yes you can hook 3 57's together but before the 3rd one starts cutting the middle scraper has to let the lead scraper go because if the 3rd scraper catches something hard it will rip the bail clean off, but the lead scraper and the middle scraper can be loaded using all 3 scrapers, we used to do it all the time with 27's you can load them pretty quick runin triples!

cut in 2nd gear, run some sand through it, run some better dirt through it, start on the edge and work your way into it theres a number of ways plowin straight through the middle and diggin as deep as u can is just gonna make a mess

Perhaps you missed the time line they had. Trucks sitting losing money. Yes there are better ways to make mud disappear with scrapers but the trucks needed to get in there right away so they did what they had to.

Great video. Although the Caterpillar 657's are very good scrapers, they pale compared to the Caterpillar 666B, the best scraper that Caterpillar ever made. Sadly, Caterpillar decided to discontinue the 666B in 1979 but a few still exist in running condition. Perhaps some 666B's will be restored to like-new condition and be displayed in museums or even reused in push-pull operations like what's shown here as well as in mines, construction sites, quarries, and oil sands.

That's right, just that each one is 1400HP so by the time you hook three up it's very easy to break things. Heck even with two you can rip off bales/hooks really easy (look at the last scraper).
