Great playing. Hey that's the same year Strat that Andy Summers of The Police uses. Ever try to play any Police music? On most of The Police he used his Tele with humbucker in neck but on the reunion tour he used his Strat. Also the Ghost in the Machine album I think was primarily the Strat. There is a vid of him on YouTube demoing his playing in 1987 with the Strat.

the Fender custom shop discovered the body to be 1963 w/ large D -neck probaly custom made for a customer

Custom made is stretching it. Customs were mainly reserved for non bursts, where they shot over the original yellow undercoat, or over a complete burst. From what I've read, it was just a mutt partsocaster.
