This was played at my Grandads funeral the other day, perhaps one of the most aptley names for a cremation, as the coffin passes beyond the curtian. Oh how that beautiful guitar reduces me to my tears... :(
GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! It just makes me think about all that has gone on in my life--where I am today---who I have met that I otherwise would not have........The LOVE I have now in my life that NEVER would have been there...........Angels from Ashes indeed <3
@Rachellelawley ..........to me it sounds lovely.......It makes me think of all I have been through...all that I have now.....the friends and the love that would have never been possible..........Angels from Ashes sums all my feelings up <3
Hi, unfortunately I dont't know how to play the song but I can help with some additional infos.
The tune was originally written by Blair Douglas a musician and composer from the Isle of Skye (and a famous accordionist) He was also one of the first members of Runrig.
The song was written in response of the events of 9/11 in New York and in memory of the people who died in the disaster.
He performed the tune together with Runrig on Times Square.
Thanks for the compliment on the video, but I can't seem to find that stupid sheet music. :( Even after all this time and I'm sure some of you have been waiting... I can't find the darned thing.
building on what you've said...Blair Douglas initially released the song as a charity single, raising money for the 'heroes' of 9-11 and their families
It was played along with Runrig, and they did promotional work all over Britain and America. I was lucky to be involved in a performance, playing with Millport Pipe Band (along with B.D. and Runrig) in Glasgow. It is a heart-rending tune that is bittersweet for me. Bravo for the piano version.
I figured out the first bit on my own and wrote it down on some blank sheet music pages. I could probably scan it into my computer and email it to you if you wanted, but it's nothing elaborate and like I said, it's really only the first little bit.
As far as I know, Runrig wrote this song just because they felt like it. I personally have no idea if it's dedicated to anything in particular.
I do know that when the space shuttle Columbia exploded one of the only things that was left intact was a copy of the Proterra CD (which this song is from) and the CD was given to Runrig by the husband and song of the astronaut woman it had belonged to.
Actually, this song was written by Blair Douglas. Runrig adapted it into a piano piece for Proterra. The CD that crashed down from Columbia was The Stamping Ground (Running to the Light was used as a wake up call for the astronauts on the day it crashed).

Whilst it is is Blairs, the song appeared on angels from the ashes album in 2004. But this must be a early version

Am I right in saying that this is dedicated to the New York Emergency Services?
