this is everyday of my life and if they decided to put it into music then my life has just as much meaning. That it was neccessity to everything else being all in all. And everyday I wake up into this still. And this is how I'll wonder why, hopelessly but one wonders none the less.
this music reminds me of Yume Nikki, a game about exploring dreams. In that game the music was repetitive and peaceful too (if not a little creepy).. that being said, this music makes me want to explore my subconscious...
This track brings me to a world beyond any description.
But, I would like to try anyway: I'm in a huge strange alien cave, filled with amazingly purpleish colored crystals. They are shimmering and magically beatiful. And far away in the distant, I can hear echoes of some kind of an activity going on. Could it be a machine maybe? Wonder what it's doing there? Yes it's a mysterious place indeed, I would like to stay here forever to explore every corners of it! :)
"Sometimes it seems as though we are all obessed with a longing for the impossible. The reality around us, the three-dimensional world surrounding us, is too ordinary, too boring, too common. We yearn for the unnatural, or the supernatural, the impossible, the miraculous..."
Great to have ae around then, so that we can just disappear into their wonderful, supernatural and strange worlds they are producing with their programming skills! ;)
I used to listen to this on the radio kiss 100 chillout whle smoking weed in the back of my mates car must be nearly 20 years ago now :(, great track and if you like this your love autumn leaves :).
innovative? thanks for your opinion pal, but everyone sees art in different ways. i see this music as concentrating on how the song is formed as well, not just the sound.
Despite what others say about not being 'new' or 'innovative' for me this album, Amber, is their greatest moment. I can close my eyes and go anywhere whilst listening to this. Quaristice just gave me a headache.
Too much emphasis is put on Autechre being innovators. Innovation isn't everything - you can enjoy sound without it being new or 'pushing forward'.
Shagging, eating and laughing aren't innovative - but they are all enjoyable.
@karaloca Shagging, eating and laughing is most enjoyable when its fresh and new. when it becomes redundant and predictable is when its time to move on and try something new unless something changes to make it fresh and new again.
@karaloca Yeah my feelings exactly. I'll probably buy anything autechre releases from this point on, just because I respect them so much and hope they release something as good as amber, chicastic slide, or lp5, but usually I just get a headache with their new stuff like you said. Autechre has shown time after time that they can create an amazing melody line, I just wish they'd go back to that.
This music reminds me of waiting for an elevator to arrive at my floor....or a red light to turn green.... or watching a falling leaf fall from a tree very slowly.
Their early is stuff is beautiful, they made some very emotional and haunting tracks and this album is a classic. But there was a hell of a lot of damn good electronic music in the 90`s.
Know what you mean as far as being difficult to listen to. The whole of their first album Incunabula is written of for me, I can no longer listen to it because of a past relationship. Its just too emotional, 444 being the worst offender. I just tried listening to it on YouTube and had to stop after about one minute.
If I had to stop listening to music because of associations with past relationships, I'd be completely screwed! I find YouTube is best for rediscovering albums that you never recovered from ex-girlfriends....
i was deep into music as a teenager and would sit late night watching the vu meter on my tape deck bounce to this was such a lonely sound, like the picture its something from earth yet alien. almost like something is lost. cant explain its just a very profound.. err sound.
Truly said. I've had enough trouble getting people whose opinions I respect to listen Ae...if idiots started telling me about this "great new group" I'd lose it entirely.
I agree with the OP this is their greatest work.

Yes i'm still waiting to see any real innovation from this decade.
This tune is a long time favorite of mine , along with most autechre stuff , esp tri rep. and amber and incunabula.
