  • THIS COW RUINED WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY INTERESTING INTERVIEW (THE QUESTIONS ARE THE QUESTIONS OF AN INDIFFERENT IDIOT, BUT THE ANSWERS ARE THE ANSWERS OF THE MOST ENLIGHTENED MAN!)

  • THIS WOMAN IS A PLAIN COW, NOTHING ELSE BUT REDNECK COW! COW COW COW!

  • She's as graceful as a flying mallet but she got some interesting honest replies as someone on a spiritual path he actually warms up to her a bit

  • if he was insulted he would have said so

  • thought she cut rt thru the bs not timid direct

  • I said she was a bitch and a half. Should have said CUNT and a half...sorry,

  • She's a bitch and a half...

  • doesn't matter how annoying SHE is, i just enjoy every word that comes out of Leonard's mouth. such wisdom and calmness... i suspected it but didn't really know for sure if he was bipolar just like me (i'm not the type of person who needs to know everything about his [musical] heroes) but with this interview i feel even more connected now. also been a monk in southern thailand for a while.

can't describe the respect i have for this man... may he still live a long and peacefull life

  • This woman is a FUCKING CUNT. How the fuck do you interview Leonard Cohen and talk to him in such a tone of voice. I can't stand stupid people. I really can't.

  • I disagree with most of the comments here. Good questions, and mr Cohen didn't dodge them and came up with answers. His a big boy, he can handle it. You here problably want to pamper the Legend. Not necessary, at all. And gosh yeah, Im a big fan of Leonard Cohen.

  • Yes, she does have a voice that is not comfortable to listen to. Yes, she does not understand but one has to understand where she is coming from...she is without much experience and is qestioning from that place. She is young, and what I hear is that she is trying to understand from the only level she can....it is obvious that he feels this and allows for it by answering as best he can in the time allowed. Most do what she does, have their questions ready, but are not really able to listen.

  • She is horrible! Why did he agree to her interview, one wonders.

  • This guy's a legend. Give it 100 years...you will see

  • She's HORRIBLE!!!! I can't watch anymore.

  • This woman is a total ignoramus!

  • LC was my hero in 1967 Montreal when his first album appeared! And I adore his new music, bravo, screw the accountants!

  • Leonard Cohen is so patient with this insulting woman. A great testament to his meditation practice! She's appauling!!!! He's great! So honest and articulate.

  • I can't imagine having the opportunity to interview and breathe the same air as Leonard Cohen and blowing it sooo badly.... Really.... hope someone clued her in at some point that she was in the presence of a "Genius Poet" and that she came off like a bit of a dumbass.

  • @denysellyn OMFG !! For Sure!- this is actually insulting to watch. It's like watching someone walk into a room with Mr Leonard Cohen and call him a d**k ... like what WTF??? !!! Im just speechless at her ignorance ! 1) Does she know who Mr Leonard Cohen is ??? WTF - Have some Manners and a bit of respect B**ch - and 2) Clearly hasn't researched anything about mental health or depression either - The Man deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for just tolerating her stupid ass ...DISGUST !

  • One must have the qualities of a monk not to strangle that interviewer.

  • Maybe she works for a pharmaceutical company.

  • She has no empathy!

  • @kingfolk: You say that this woman is being insulting at times and yet you are being a bit insulting here by calling her a "chick." Whether we like or dislike the way she does this interview she is still a woman. Other people on here trying to make insulting comments are just being very childish and are making a fool of themselves.

  • asking questions with a snide tone... missing the point of his responses... squawking like a wet hen... how annoying is this woman

  • @JerichoDitch2

Snide squaking yes--- want to choke her at her tongue with her "Leonard Lighten UP" card... grrr

  • She is so lost, missing understanding of soul and depth. How pathetic....

  • goddamn, here ya have this soft-spoken, genius being interviewed by this shallow, obnoxious, squawking, bird-like noise with all of the soothing qualities of an ambulance siren.

  • SO TRUE....the interviewer is not on par with Mr. Cohen(obviously!!!!), but he handles her with so much wisdom and class .... and PATIENCE......:)

  • The interviewer surely seems to be clueless, but Leonard still handles it with class, candor, and cool. It doesn't bother him at all, and he said what he needed to say,

    faluninfo(.)net

  • holy fucktard lady!!!!

  • she is too shallow and stupid to be interviewing him. Its like "casting pearls before swine" His patience with her is inspiring. she has no clue of what he is talking about!

  • She sounds Canadian.

  • HIS CLASSYNESS SHOWS UP EVEN MORE BECAUSE OF HER COURSENESS

  • shes brain dead

  • Yeah lionheart, the anchor is a dummy but Leonard is real to the bone.

  • don't like the anchor she's not real

  • The juxtaposition of the two personalities trumped the conversation. He felt things so deeply, and she appeared to be unfeeling even when she tried. She was like the stepford interviewer.

  • I thought this was a great interview... she was doing her job well and he responded well in kind. I didn't see an ounce of judgement in her questions or tone. Cohen was direct, and even humorous about the whole thing. He seemed to be enjoying it from what I could tell.

  • I thought this was a great interview, and a great interviewer. She pushed him into talking about some things he was a little hesitant to talk about, which is what interviewers are supposed to do.

  • What a cunt. I can't stand being told in real life to cheer up like that by some superficial happy retard. Condescending bitch.

  • This woman is awful! She's got to be on antidepressants, or some drug.

  • She doesn't represent all americans. Thank the gods!

  • Jeesh...she is one of the most insensitive persons I have ever seen....who on Earth thought she'd be good at her job?

  • she is awful! hahahahh. who is she

  • Just adding my voice to the choir: what a dreadful interviewer...

  • Leonard Cohen: "[insert wisdom]"

    Her: "Depression?"

    Leonard Cohen: "[insert more wisdom]"

    Her: "DEPRESSION!"

  • @JustASongBeforeIGo The stupid bitch should just stick to dumb tv shows with some other dip shit broads like w. goldberg, etc.

  • "Suffering is beautiful...it is a wonderful opportunity to open the divine aspect of yourself" words by Tony Samara

  • "That's what Enlightenment means..."

    "Do you play tennis?"

    *Scooby whaaaa?*

  • Awful, awful woman. wooden.

  • Americans seem to think that being loud & obnoxious means being intelligent & cultured

  • This interview is atrocious. Leonard is as kind and giving as always, can't believe she went at his this way. How disrespectful to treat him in such a manner.

  • what an insensitive cunt

  • American interviewers are so stupid & rude

  • @TheNormankingdom I know right, what a piece of work.

  • Only a Buddhist of his standing could be grilled by this haradon and not punch her in the mouth, what a beautiful man he is - here Leonard let me lamp her for you xxxx

  • Who is that terrible interviewer? Cohen is great but that idiot interviewer is totally lame.

  • I think it is pathetic that someone takes some footage they don't own and sticks their name over it to get publicity.

    This is an interesting interview.

  • This woman is being a CUNT.....an acronym meaning Cannot Understand Normal Thinking. Cohen is being painfully honest about his feelings & refuses to take the bait.....one more reason he is brilliant both on & off the stage.

  • @golight hahahahahhaa! C.U.N.T lolllllllllllllllllll how cute

  • The reporter was intrusive but i dont think it was insulting. Cohen didnt seem unhappy to answer her questions and his words on depression and rather inspirational.

  • I don't know, she seems ok, very direct. I'm sure Leonard knew what she was like and what questions she might ask beforehand. He seems pretty ok with the interview. It was good to hear about something we might all feel at some time. Nice to hear about his children.

  • THIS IS A FAKE VIDEO !!!!!!!! Open your eyes

  • She looks at Leonard as if he were dirt and the way she says "depression" and "manic depression" seem to drip with contempt. I never liked her abrasive nature.

  • Thank you Leonard for giving clinical depression more attention, lessening the shame/stigma.

  • hey the guy is very honest "he didn't come all this way to fool ya". she is a tad obnoxious but leonard disarms her with his no bullshit attitude.he has a great sense of humor about the whole mechanics of celebrity and strikes me as very unpretentious and forthcoming about his situation.his artistic achievements haven't swelled his head to the point where he can't talk about himself honestly.which makes me admire him even more.a great man in many ways.thanks for posting this.

  • Wow this woman is unbearable.

  • leonard is awesome..

  • Rather bad copy of the TV signal. But to hear this gentleman saw that he has a mental health problems.

  • What an aweful woman. :) I say this in love.

  • Yet another reason for me to adore Leonard Cohen... and I totally get where he's coming from about depression, relationships, and creativity.

  • I think hes "touching her body with his mind" and she loves it.

  • I think this is a really good interview. She asks intelligent, intimate questions and he opens up to her. His uneasiness and body language during the "coming out of the closet part" is very common in people who are talking about distressing and phsycologically troublesome sides of their life. It`s obvious how he enjoys the interview inspite of that. He wouldn`t if he didn`t feel comfortable with her. He would have just walked out. Seems to me they have a great respect for each other. Great !

  • The woman, ::sigh:: is an insensitive twit! I would not have tolerated her lack of empathy, or callousness. This "interview" was painful to watch.

  • I love how L. Cohen keeps it cool. The interviewer comes off as a little abrasive, I think she's excited to interview a legend.

  • She say "depression" as if she is going come out in some kind of fucking rash. She has the bedside manner of a rattle snake.

She is lucky that Leonard is legendary for his love of women.

Or perhaps he detected she too had issues. Has to be something to explain her attutude towards mental illness.

  • She is making me depressed. Leonard gives me joy. Questions and her use of words are like a battle axe on swiss.

  • To LC - I have been in this dark, oppressive place and I know of what you speak. My deliverance came in a moment of time when I cried out to the Lord and said, "This burden is more than I can bear". Instantly I was set free. "He who the Son sets free is free indeed." The Lord loves you unconditionally, He has counted every hair on your head, bottled all your tears and His thoughts towards you are for good and not for evil. He calls you a pearl of great price. May you know His peace.

  • @saltnlightful really/ well give me a good explanation for suffering.-please! and don't give me that God doesn't cause it excuse. If someone is totally in charge, why not design a world where people are happy all the time?

  • @anneporter I have no really good reason or explanation for suffering - but having been there - my heart sympathizes with those who are in this horrible place. i endured the torment for seven years and never thought I would be free. I have no idea why the Lord even bothered to set me free - because I am unworthy of any kindness from Him. I am grateful that His mercy had nothing to do with my merit. I was shown mercy at a time when I could hardly draw the next breath to live.

  • It's Valerie Pringle, a well known Canadian TV news magazine host in the '90s. Maybe you have to be Canadian to get the approach and understand Leonard's place in the culture here. From this perspective her interview makes perfect sense. SHe being a well known (at the time) TV personality, a generation younger than LC. Note how she asks about his kids- like they are extended family. Did cringe at the "manic Depressive" thing when it first aired I admit.

  • Who is this clueless woman? It shows how strong his practice is that he doesn't get up and smack her. "Manic-depressive"? What a maroon.

  • What a dreadful interviewer - who on earth thought that she would be a good person to interview Leonard Cohen?

  • @spogskaap Oh I think she's just perfect! She's asking pointed and frank questions of guy who is wanting to be open and revealing.

  • @spogskaap - Could not agree with you more what a stupid woman...who in their right mind let this idiot interview such a man....?

  • stuuuuuuuuuuuuupid bitch..

  • He must really have gone through a depressing, what kind i dont know, but without it, he could not wright so much sensitive songs, he really puts his heart into it, and he is not ashamed to talk abouth it.

Leonard, you are not alone to suffer so much, but i know this is not a great help from me, take care, we love you xxx

  • HerreJesus, for en dame!

å måtte forholde seg til iggnorante stinkende personer, når du faktisk gjør et intervju og prøver oppriktig si noe viktig.

  • Come on folks, dont say bullshit. She has even quoted "Tower of Song", referring to Leonard's son, saying "so he's born with a golden voice". Maybe she's not the most mellow interwiever in the world, but she knows what she is talking about. I wouldn't be surprised if she woult turn out to be a huge Leonard's fan.

  • What the F is that reporters problem?

She seems disgusted by him :(

  • @beatles1285 that was just her approach to interviews. i think she just contrasted with cohen's personality

  • Leonard Cohen is the man.

    A myriad of wonderful songs.

  • She's stupid and ugly and she has a stupid and ugly tone, expressed in a stupid and ugly manner. The look on her face is caused by her brain rattling when her head quivers. This interview is like pairing grape koolaid with filet mignon.

  • @spurcross I'm not a fan of filet mignon either.

  • Comment removed

  • She is not even listening to him!! She doesn't get it

  • Got the feeling that she was interrogating a prisoner...

  • I don't find her questions intrusive at all - nor insulting - for an interviewer. Nothing is more frustrating than interviewing a public figure like Cohen and NOT asking the kind of probing questions she's asking.

  • The interviewer is okay, she is prodding and looking for things from him and is trying different angles. Some commentators need to "lighten up" too.

  • this man is 2 cool hes awsome i wud ov got up and kiked this bitch in the face and shit on hur chest

  • This women has no business speaking to Cohen. She is grandstanding-trying to one up on Leonard. Poor interview skills.

  • They are speaking from very different places. That happens. He is wise enough to flow with it.

  • @janjamm Keen observation. He knows he is in it, so he figures-lets do it. Leonard is to cool to let ignorance rock his place. This chick is even mocking him. What a waste of time. Leonard is too cool.

  • @janjamm This video is a fake, they are not at the same place at all. Why is some idiot doing that?????

  • this is great. it's like their sparring. bet he fucked after.

    also: SPECIAL PASTRY COURSE!

  • Norms never get it, do they?

  • "Everybody's got something..." Life is about personal growth. Nobody gets off scott-free! "Life is suffering" Buddah

The only victory is over oneself. Like most of us (Jews), he thinks too much! "Enlightenment is about lightening up." I think she kept it light, and got him to speak about his life, and his kids (which i hadn't heard him speak about before.)

  • Spectacular how he keeps his cool in the presence of this obnoxious person. Meditation must work.

  • haha 3:12 the look on her face says it all. she asks snarky naive questions and gets an answer that puts her in her place.. a way she couldnt understand herself until told to her.

  • Mostly her intrusiveness serves for pretty good journalism. Otherwise he might've not "come out of the closet" like he did.

  • as a manic depressive, I found her refreshing

  • Yeah, what is it with the rude "attitude", and whose idea was it anyway to send this airhead, let alone to interview a singer about becoming a buddhist monk?

I think there are some folks who are actually kinda "intimidated" by sad, melancholic songs and art. It's almost like they're running away from something that they angrily refuse to look at.

  • The interviewer is nothing special but a non de-script cardboard cut out . just accept this as fact and move on. She doesn't understand .

    bless her xxx

  • She cannot comprehend anything he is saying, what a bimbo! He is very gracious in the face of such stupidity!

  • What a terrible interviewer this woman is, her body language is so revealing of her lack of compassion, ignorance of psychology and brutal stupidity. She crashes in on Leonard Cohen, a writer with tender and sensitive skill, lit with insight and passion, in the most appalling fashion. She should be stuck with reading the weather reports [ if she can manage that.]. He deserves a more intelligent interviewer than this moron.

    ,

  • She is an interviewer, but what an ignorant person for to talk to such a genuine open person like Leonard in such a way.

  • What a presumptuous Bitch.

  • The process of interviewing, by nature, is based in ignorance. Think of a time when you followed an interview for the pointed, insightful questions, as opposed to the responses; I know that, when I seek out interviews, it is to hear the words of the people in whom I find fascination or admiration. The questions of the interviewers are almost fundamentally sycophantic and entirely beside-the-point. As such, this lady is pretty good.

  • I see no problem with her questions. She's asking what I want to hear.

  • Nah, she's just being a journalist, I think -- under pressure to ask questions that a listener might want to ask.

  • See the follow up - Leonard Cohen interview in Zen monestry part II

Maybe you'll get a sense of why she holds that role and notice what it brings forth. I also commented there.

Notice the mind of judgement - just notice it without reaction. Without taking the bait.

  • Newsflash: This man likes all of you misguided sycophants a lot less than he likes this journalist. You're all so far up his asshole that you can't even smell it.

  • B#tch!!! very rude interviwer

  • Yes he is most gracious in the face of ignorance.

  • She makes you wish you could slap her.

  • Who is that woman? She's shallow as a plate, rude, and has fat arms (jking, but it's true). Leonard Cohen was very gracious and patient, but he might as well have been speaking to a bad-mannered child.

  • wow. journalism really has reached its peak in representing reality. this woman is a prime example of that. it watched just as it would if it were two life long friends, chatting away at life, love and such things. i wonder how she found time with her busy schedule of carpooling kids and coffees with executive's wives to deliver such groundbreaking, mind jostling, heart stroking journalistic enlightenment? must be drugs

  • And in the face of her, he is so gracious, no?

  • And in the face of her, he is so gracious, no?

  • And in the face of her, he is so gracious, no?

  • This woman is disgusting

  • The interviewer is a fucking moron. To be like her is a "bad card".

  • Whoa she's rather insensitive!

  • Although the interviewer's tone is somewhat harsh, she does ask some good questions. Leonard certainly isn't ruffled!

  • What crazy person put up the strange sub-titles ,which were in many cases nothing at all similar to what was said ???????,I admire Mr Cohen very much ,thanks

  • what a bitch!!!

  • She had an opportunity of gold to be enlightened and totally blew it, Leonard does not get upset about what she says because he know that he is confronted with an ignorance as vast as the ocean is wide.

  • She has no clue, no insight whatever into depression or what he's trying to say. Just terrible.

  • horrible interviewer! I'm only 2 minutes into this interview and i'm cringing.

  • Leonard Cohen is a gentle soul and is living his life to the fullest, truthfully!

  • Leonard - you are saintly, sincere, and genuine, and most of all patient for putting up with this twit of an interviewer.

  • Television news folk belong in Dante's inferno...parasitic sociopaths.

  • Ha, this is a popular Canadian reporter/interviewer & this is her style, real friendly & chatty & Leonard would know her. Other Canadians know what I'm talking about.

  • In response to SfreemanYT, you strike a good point in your radical interpretation of this interview. Except your missing one important factor in the equation...reporters like this puke of a human being come a dime a dozen, armed to the teeth in the most cliche style of modern age news reporting..(notice how she laxes her speech to sound almost Ohioan). Leonard Cohen on the other hand is a diamond in the rough. watching this video is on a par with watching a very small mut dog barking at Christ.

  • Jews know two things; suffering and where to get the best Chinese takeout

  • Wow -- this crowd didn't like this interviewer! I've seen a number of Leonard Cohen interviews and this one revealed much that is unavailable anywhere else. The serious depression in particular is obviously a significant issue in his life. I say "Well done."

  • Leonard Cohen and a caustic, angry Hog Badger wishing to God she was a rehab nurse: one of the worst juxtapositions to ever share the same room.

  • @AudioVisualMatter HA HA!! SO true, and perfectly stated. Thank you!

  • SHE HAS NO CLUE OF LIFE AND ARTISTIC PEOPLE.

  • He handeled her very well . I respect such humility.

  • Hello. My name is Daniel. I'm a new visitor to the music and artfull thought of Leonard Cohen. I am not an art critic or commentator on art critics but the interviewer in this session was both ill-prepared with questions, vaccuous in interpreting what he was saying, and thirdly, just plain inept in following his cues. My conclusion was that she (the interviewer) was a wanna'be Diane Sawyer.

    daniel

  • wow, when someone gets an interview with someone like Leonard, She should have just listened, He never really got to finish his points. They need to have a fan do the interview. This often happens with rare interviews, They bait the guest so much that they just become defenseive

  • listen to her words she repeats. "mental illness" over and over. She is trying to "clinicize" his struggle.

LC is trying to keep things poetic and sincere, yet she keeps trying to diminish and trivialize his words into a "pop" context. She is basically trying out for TMZ or whatever rubbish passes for news.

If this is recent, I don't know why he allowed this interview, she is grating and one would prefer nails on a chalkboard I'm afraid.

    She obviously blew someone.

    Nàmàstèé Dudèérionos

  • to reply to my friends answers i will say...shes just human. i surch for zen too but, it is very rigorous and hard...its not to every one...

  • She's the one who seems to have the emotional problems, doesn't she?

  • wow, what an asshole of a reporter

  • who is this terrible ,shallow reporter.I have known people like her in my life.they are so warped.was this from canadian or usa tv show?

  • Very insensitive reporter.

  • It seems that he just takes her rough style in stride, very graciously. He has the ability to turn it into an opportunity to astound her/us with honesty and truth. He has nothing to lose. Consciousness on display. Good old Leonard!

  • OMG she is an idiot.

  • This woman had the chance to get one of the deepest conversation of her whole working life, but probably she was not ready to understand about what is all that about. In that state she has not the possibility to open her heart and cry or show her feelings. Leonard for sure that knew about this but also knew that this woman years after this will see again this and understand it, it takes years and so much introspective visions.

  • @lunanoentera

hi. your comment was so insightful! you really expressed it perfectly! thanks so much! you really said it.

  • God, what a terrible interviewer. She seems very coarse and overly direct, even for an interviewer.

  • I'm glad that Leonard found the reason why he is here, the reason of our lives, to find in the deep silence within himself the Great Life. Depression is the lack of that certitude of imortality and the lack of the Source of Life, the Divine and eternal Major Love! Thank you Leonard for your songs. Be happy my friend!

  • Leonard seems like a very, very sweet man. No matter his past indiscretions or faults.
