I bought my current bike from a LBS and was "fitted" and I have to say it's a gimmick to make people think they must buy their bikes locally (and pay full retail price). Some days I like a short saddle, other days I prefer a taller saddle. There is no magic spot.
I laugh every time I hear someone seriously discuss fitting a bike like they're pants and shirts. Get the right size bike for your height, ride the thing for 50 miles, then you will know where you need adjustments.
I just bought my first road bike and found a used CycleOps indoor trainer. Its ten degrees below zero outside right now and im in the living room pedaling away after adjusting per this vid.
Thanks for the good instruction!
My first impression of this little seat is just that! Its little! And i think it has left an impression!
Hello. If my saddle position already fits me but my stem is too long. will i have to re-adjust my saddle position after shortening my stem? Thanks in advance. great video btw. :)
I've been looking into road bikes for a while now and this video has helped me the most thus far! Now I feel like even though I have never ridden a road bike in my life, i can walk in as a smart and confident consumer. Thanks for this helpful video!
The angle indicated in the video (in yellow writing) as being 10-20 degrees is actually 160 - 170 degrees. The point of reference is wrong. The 10-20 degree angle would be made from the line made by his lower leg extending upward through the knee and the line made by his thigh. Otherwise an excellent video.
Thanks best video yet.. One question The guy at the bike shop thinks I need a 56cm frame. that feels too tall for me. ( 6' 210lbs 32in inseam ) I rode the 52cm and it felt ok. the 56 seemed too tall
i have recently gotten into cycling and was not fitted to my scott cr1 by the shop. so i have to master my fit on my own. after scouring the internet, i came across this video. it fully explains the (in plain english) how to be fitted to a road bike. and, the guy with the video camera actually points the camera at what you are talking about. sweet video, thanks for the help. i feel comfortable on my bike already.
Uhm hi there, basically hears the deal. I'm 17 and im looking to get a road bike to take to school and badminton etc. My budget is £300 and no more, I've seen this Carrera Virtuoso Medium Road Bike on halfords, is it a good bike or are there better bikes for that price? Any advice would be great, thanks
somebody help me out, when he goes over the horizontal riding position i.e. having a longer or shorter stem (3:12) , I believe he explains it correctly, but doesn't the video show the exact opposite of what he says?
says - when the handlebar is in front of the hub (3:25)
it is really an informative video, but at about 1:57 of time elapsed during the video the 10-20 degree angle of the leg must be corrected I think it must be 160-170 degrees... or must be drawn on the front side of the leg... just want it to be corrected hehehe
yeah, but everyone's feet are different so the fore-aft of the saddle will change person to person. get a coach or someone to really help you. Also try pedaling with one foot in the trainer and see if there are any jerking motions in the pedal stroke-maybe try different cranks or a different saddle height if that is the case
if his eyes were bigger, he'd look like Paul McCartney...but this video helped me a lot on adjusting my bike, really appreciates performance bike and christopher for this very very informative video.
yeh the fore/aft positioning on this video in my opinion is done wrong. in order to get your max torque output is to have your pedal at 2o'clock instead of 3 and parallel. This in accordance to the human body geometry. Another error i noticed is that he mentions saddle angle and how riders ride them. All saddles are designed to be ridden level and not tilted up or down...even to releave pains...and get a haircut and wash ur hair..lol
The dude is really calm. I like that. He is confident, friendly, but not fake and he really appears knowledgeable. I have been a vintage cycling enthusiast for 40+ years. Thanks!
is there any truth to saddle position and health issues like....prostate issues. just wondering because i heard someone say this the other day. thanks
a nice video thanks, but I wonder why crank length is near the end? the crank length could impact seat position both fore/aft and up/down. also, some suggest fore/aft from most forward point of the knee, not the bone just below. I had a profitter measure measure from the most forward point, yet two lbs from the point as described in this video. confusing. otherwise this video is a great place to start the impossible journey that is getting the bike fit perfect.
