yes, the brazilian "portuguese" is similar to spanish, it just a little bit different . if a person is a native spanish speaker is easier for them to understand portuguese hands down, is the same for those who speak portuguese.

In my experience of being an actual Brazilian I understand Spanish Speakers more often than they understand me when I speak Portuguese.
From how I understand it our sounds are so much difference from the Spanish its actually quite hard for Spanish speakers to understand Portuguese.
Also the rhythm of the language is completely different from Spanish.
