  • thank ou for preaching that to us, blessings

  • Hey I like this video my name is alberto can you please pray for me as I seek the mercy and the baptism of the holy spirit god bless

  • Also Paul says that he speaks in tongues more then anyone else, he does not say that its a pray language , he make not comment that he used them for the edification of Himself, actually it is more probable that because he traveled and encounter many different language speaking people that God used that Gift through him more than anyone else and he had the confirmation, as those at Pentecost that the tongues served a purpose.

  • @j75j89

Actually, Paul says he will pray, sing, and bless in tongues, and as a contrast, pray, sing, and bless in mind. He asks the speaker in tongues to pray to the Lord to give interpretation which says that the speaker doesn't know what is being said (since its a language from his spirit, by the Holy Spirit). Mysteries is used, but mysteries in the NT is always a revealing of something, not something hidden. Anyway, I won't be debating any more about this with you. God bless you.

  • @j75j89 The point of I Cor 14:23,24 is that there needs to be order in the gathering, not chaos. People were zealous for good works/giftings w/out the motivating factor & necessity of agape love. The point is that there must be order, that when a tongue is given, there be one present gifted to interpret.

Paul's words: 22 "Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers; prophecy, however, is for believers, not for unbelievers."

  • @j75j89: Paul's whole point from Chapters 12-14 in I Cor is related to the Corinth Church, & how the Spirit works by imparting gifts to His people. So to say prophesying is for nonbelievers beggars belief.

Please back up any more statements you make with Scripture/verse. Thank you!

  • @j75j89

You said prophesying is for the nonbeliever? Chapter, verse, please? Here's Scripture:

14:3-4: "But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church."

Prophesying is a message/declaration that edifies the body of Christ. It isn't necessarily foretelling the future but speaking of the past, present &/or future relating to one's standing to the Kingdom of God.

  • Paul speaks of only one type of tongues but yet pentecostals teach that their are two types. I don't see where they get that from, there is nothing to show that except when we interpret that speaking in tongues is for the church. Pauls says that they are not for the church.

  • @j75j89

Why would you limit God? Paul asks the questions of the Corinthians: "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when[a] you believed?" If it was automatically a happening in one's life to receive the Holy Spirit when one believes on Christ, why would he ask that question? It is a separate experience, though much better if the Immersion in the Spirit happens at the new birth...

There may be many who have "learned" tongues or just repeat what they learned. But there are thousands of languages..

  • @j75j89

Perhaps all authentic spiritual languages ARE earthly or heavenly languages, synonymous with Acts 2. But Paul has said in I Cor 14 that he prays with his spirit and with his mind. That's a contrast. What is being prayed out loud IS a language, but its purpose is NOT necessarily to give a message or be a sign. It is also to edify the believer, or, to edify the church when interpreted.

  • @j75j89

I Cor 12:10: "To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues"

I Cor 12:28: "And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues."

Diversities of tongues; divers tongues. One type of tongue? Or perhaps its also a language of a man's spirit

  • @j75j89

I Cor 14:2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit. 4He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself..."

So why does Paul say that one who speaks in a tongue doesn't speak to men but to God? Because its primarily a language of the spirit to God! On occasion (&modern testmonies confirm this), the tongue is interpreted by a nonbeliever as a sign (that God is in their midst).

    Pls read above verses

  • @SpitfireOverThames Scripture says that tongues where a sign for the non-believeing Jews 1 Cor. 14:21, it doesn't say non-believers as in anyone, actually for non-believers Paul states that Prophesy is for non-believers 1 Cor. 14:23,24.

  • @j75j89: Here's your verse regarding tongues:

I Cor 14:21 In the Law it is written: "Through men of strange tongues and through the lips of foreigners, I will speak to this people, but even then they will not listen to me," says the Lord.

That original Scripture is from Isaiah 28:11-12. It was a judgment declaration that said when you hear foreigner's tongues, you will know that God has acted. Likewise, the tongues in Acts 2 also confirmed God's judgment if they rejected Christ.

  • @j75j89

But the tongue can also be interpreted at which point it becomes equal with prophecy as a message of edification to the church body. So there are multiple purposes and reasons for it.

Even science says that those who pray or sing in the Spirit do so from the same hemisphere of the brain that produces art, music, and other creative aspects of life. God knows what He's doing with us by giving us this wonderful, powerful, life-changing gift!

  • I'm pentecostal so I know what the pentecostal believe but lately I've started to see that its been a misinterpretation from our part. Paul also says let us not be babes in understanding. Well, christian say tongues is a sign of the baptism of the Holy Spirit but Paul says its a sign to the unbelieving Jews. Actually, the bible teaches that we recieve the Holy Spirit at new birth, the disicples recieved Him when the Holy Spirit came down.

  • @j75j89

What I suspect is that you have a strong dose of religion in your life, but perhaps little encounter with God. Your wine is running dry. You've become jaded by the church or what you see there. Its a dangerous place to be, imo. I hope you'll study both perspectives about this subject vigorously. The fact is, those against it must attack this doctrine through crafty means, not Scripture itself. And those who are against it most are most often the most dry, lifeless Christians around.

  • I think that I know a lady who speaks in tongues. I may have heard her in the past when she used to go to church together. However, she said that the tongues she spoken where possibly, chinese, french, and several others. So if they are tongues then thats what they should be. Not just words that no one understands. If God proves to me otherwise then I will stick to what I believe now.

  • @j75j89

The apostle Paul said that he spoke in tongues more than anyone. He excelled in the gifting. Do you think he spoke in language of this world at those moments? No; the primary purpose of the spiritual language is an edifying of self, or the church (if proclaimed over a group of people). The spiritual language's primary purpose isn't to be a sign but to edify the spirit of oneself. Look at part 2 of this reply...

  • @j75j89

Look at the following verse, as one example from I Cor 14:14-15: "For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind."

We are made up of spirit, soul, body. Our spirit can pray... Have you prayed from your spirit recently? Paul declares that he would pray from his spirit in CONTRAST to his mind. How is that possible?

  • Well, I believe that tongues still do exist but I don't think I've ever really seen them. I mean many have spoken in tongues but I think its not the gift, its something that they learned to do maybe from others I don't know. I spoken in tongues but I don't believe its the gift I see in the scriptures. I'm not a theologian but I don't think that experience is a good guide in interpreting the scriptures and thats what most of those who speak in tongues do.

  • I think when someone is born again is when he receives the Holy Spirit. Pentecost was when the Holy Ghost was given, it was given to the Jews, samaritans and Gentiles. Signifying it was for everyone. Speaking in tongues was a sign not of having the Holy Spirit but for the unbelieving Jews. So someone can have the Holy Spirit and not speak in tongues.

  • @j75j89

Let me ask you a question. If you only had the Word of God as your source, not theological treaties and doctrines from denominational viewpoints, what would be your understanding regarding the doctrine of the Holy Spirit? If you only had the Bible, your conclusion would be, "I, too, must be immersed in the Holy Spirit." And Scripture is pro-"tongues". The problem is that people misunderstand its purpose; yes, it is a sign to nonbelievers but it is also given to edify the believer...

  • @j75j89

The spiritual language's primary purpose is not to be a sign to others (though that happens) but to edify the believer and the church (when interpreted). It IS a gift of the Holy Spirit.

Yes, some people receive the Holy Spirit dunamis at the new birth, and, ideally, it is best to receive ASAP for daily life.

One thing that happens when you receive the Holy Spirit in fullness is that your love for God, His Word, and being led by Him becomes paramount.

    But we can agree2disagree.

  • Thanks Bro, you have been a blessing. I have one question? Do you believe as I do that the evidence of recieving the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues? I was talking with a friend lastnite and she disagrees with that. She believes she has the Holy Spirit although she hasn't spoke in tongues....Thoughts???

    Acts 2:4 (reference)

  • This is, in my opinion, a question asked throughout charismatic circles. I believe a person CAN have the fullness of the Holy Spirit by requesting & seeking after the Lord, through worship, etc... The fullness of the Spirit is not the question; the power [or dunamis] of God IS the central purpose of the Baptism of (or with) the Holy Spirit, however. By it, the Resurrection of Christ & God's Word as truth is confirmed... Go on to Part 2 of this answer...

  • (Part 2) Scripturally, it appears that the "evidence" of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is the releasing of unknown languages.. I would agree to that. But what does God like more: a person full of tongues, or a person full of love? Ideally, there should be both! It is advantageous for the believer to operate the spiritual language in his or her life (because it edifies oneself, edifies others, and it does things within the believer unseen in a spiritual manner).

  • I had the same question, you answered it, thank you so much, you are such a blessing.

    God Bless

  • Holy spirit is the seal of God. Blessed those who are full in the spirit. I'm lacking in this one. It's the weapon against the world.

  • the holy spirit is just a feeling that u get because u believe in a god and when u believe in a god u feel protected and is just a delusional feeling , ppl from other religions and other gods also feel the same thing when they believe in their gods

  • That's your thought on the subject, and I respect it. :)

  • Amen. It is absolutely essential. Even for loving, because we Thank you for voicing this. please do not back down on this.

Blessings, love, and power to you!!

  • Thank you for your comment! I can't back down on this because it really is fully endorsed by the Scriptures (and common sense). We need His power and presence! Thanks for watching!

  • For real hahaha! Lord bless you bro :)

  • I have, and he mainly makes his attacks on the Catholics. His arguements are so distorted and the examples he use are so childish that only the people who WANT TO REJECT GOD WITH ALL THEIR HEART actually agrees with him.

  • nice one

  • I care about you enough to agree to that. In fact, Zacharias talks much about that book. Send me evidence that you've bought END OF REASON & I will get GOD D. It will be difficult for me to read that not because I am afraid of the attack on my faith, but because I know it will be delving into the mind of someone who's biased hatred of Christianity is like poison... Why would I expose myself to such debased & irreverent thinking? But I am willing if it will possibly help you...

  • So you're closed minded to someone who annoys you, but who might have something to say about life and it purpose? END OF REASON is not a long read--quite brief. But it is a good capsule of why I would NOT want to be aatheist. Anyway, nice of you to keep the conversation civil & friendly. :) Take care!

  • Well, read END OF REASON by Zacharias. Atheism doesn't have the answers to life's challenges. And science is beautiful, and useful fo life, but it doesnt answer the questions of why and even how. Jesus of Nazareth is a historical figure that you should consider carefully. Anyway, thanks for your view!

  • Praise God! That was a timely word and a real blessing! Thank you and God bless you richly xxx

  • Thank you for your comment! I appreciate that it blessed you! I am working on the next parts too. I love talking about this subject.
