I was at the University of Waterloo yesterday where they are working on this stuff, and its so cool, i got it explained to me how it works, and its amazing
@MrClimbtothetop you are an idiot. the thickness of those TVs are about an inch thick (25mm!), And Samsung's new wall mounting system is 0.6 INCHES away from the wall. wow, could you be any more wrong. Also Samsung is junk not Sony.
Its not just thinner, its faster, better color, better contrast, and almost 100 percent efficient.
Once the tech matures it will be cheaper and easier to produce than current flat screens. Its expensive because its new tech, give it time, you will own one.
and that will bring a true evolution to portable gadgets. just think how thin will be touchscreen music player / cell phones be? maybe even just a scroll is enough. an hand held consoles will be great.
I know that tech is really amazing especially with their flex oleds displays, but if they're going to charge $2500 for an 11" Oled think how much they could price something like a roll up mp3 player or a set of video processing sun glasses with gps nav. or the all loving $10,000 wrist band. We may not see this tech for atleast five more years but by that time oled could be out gunned by samsung if they don't get in the game with some better and soon to sell products. SONY #1
Samsung impreesion has OLED screen so it's already being incorporated into cellphone technology....I've also read that Iphone & LG will be out with their OLED cellphones by 4th qtr 2009
i know the difference, in fact samsung used OLED since 3 years ago in his MP3 player's display... maybe you 2 need to read more about the lidership of the brands, in the actual GLOBAL MARKET, then you will konw about who's the lider in tech, manufature and sales... i know this becouse this is my job, every day i have to know th changes in the market... news flash sony is going down and samsung is going up, this is not what "i think", is just only what i see every day
and is my jod too know ALL the caracteristics of ALL products of ALL brands including Phillips, LG, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, JVC, Panasonic, etc. bcouse i'm an A/V instructor for salesmen, in SEARS, BestBuy, and many more stores
0.9mm thick! Holy damn, That is about as close as I can get my fingers together without them touching... That is insane, I can't wait to see these in a year or so.
so whats the big announcement? theyve had that on sale for the past year? still havnt got bigger than 11"? They can flex a 3" OLED screen? is that it? wake me up when they make one big enough to watch TV on...

This guy is wrong! Samsung had OLED products on the market according to their interview at the 2008 CES ! One whole yr before!
It's too bad that it's 2010 and Sony Ericsson still hasn't included this technology on their cell phones.
Nokia and Samsung have! ...I expected much more from Sony.

explain why it is 10 times more expensive
I see like 1 pount worth of resourse.
figure that out. and youll end up selling them.
I dont give a damn, untill its cheaper than what i have on my desk right now.
I could care less what sits behind my screen.

The response time on OLEDs are faster than any LCD. (about 0.01 of a millisecond, compared to 2ms for a computer monitor and 8ms for a typical lcd)
I'm sure when the cost goes down, some might have Internet too.
