    :D congrats !!

  • sad very sad

  • the saddest movie ever!

  • Yeah... couldn't find this sad. The kid's kinda annoying, especially how he keeps calling him 'Champ'. And it looks too 70s.

  • @sEaNoYeAh U dnt know what a movie this is. There no movie today that beat this on every level. The screenplay, the acting, scores ETC... the list goes on. U keep watching transformers hahaha.

  • Gets me everytime could bring a tear to a glass eye

  • It's not possible to watch this without crying.

  • There is not enough tissues in the world for this scene.

  • If you've never had kids you see this through the boy's eyes. If you have, you imagine it's your own child. This is why it kills everyone.

  • Scientifically proven to be the saddest movie of all time...

  • i remember crying my eyes out during the scene.

  • Awww. Bless him =( Such a good little actor. It's such a sad scene. x

  • This is great, the kid is a great actor, but Lion King made me cry, this didn't.

  • THE KID IS AWESOME!!!

  • wake up! D':

  • omg this was soo sad... i watched this with zulmita jaz and eli and i cried soooo much...:-(

  • Nothing like the classic!

  • @abuhany128 That's Ricky Shroeder...last time I seen him was on NYPD Blue

  • What a boy ! where is he now ?

  • @abuhany128 Doing jobs here and there, still hanging in there like a champ. Just saw him recently in a video for a song called Whiskey Lullaby with Brad Paisley, still such a great actor. I have always liked him as a actor.

  • esta escena la cago....y no escribo mas por que teengo el teclado todo mojado con las lagrimas

  • I watched this over and over in the early 80's. I bawled my eyes out each time. It's theme song "What Matters Most" (Barbra Streisand recently revived this song and has just garnered a Grammy nomination) is equally sad and a tearjerker.

  • how a child can deliver a heart-rending performance like that is beyond my understanding. he was only 8 when this scene was shot. its unbelievable.

  • Nice

  • - Not trying to start anything, but for some peculiar reason, I didn't cry. Not a tear, and I didn't feel even the slightest bit of sorrow or sadness. I'm rather ashamed because I only have heard that it's the saddest movie scene ever. So what does this mean? :/

  • @ThePhoenixWithinUs same here :/ What did make me cry is The Notebook

  • @ThePhoenixWithinUs I've never cried to a movie. Try watching the movie "Grave of the fireflies"

  • @ThePhoenixWithinUs You're a Republican.

  • It actually did bring a tear to my eye.

...a tear of semen... to the eye of my penis.

  • @StepBack13 that's right, because usually you get a blow of semen into your brown eye

  • such a sad ending :(

  • Im not ashamed of saying that I cried like a little bitch the first time I saw this, and I'm still crying when I'm watching it right now.

  • it blows my mind at how amazing this little boys acting is! I watched this in drama class and it has us all in tears grown men! it even brought a tear to my teachers eye I'm not embarrassed to say I'm a 21 year old and I aspire to act as well as this boy PS sorry for my shit English grammar I'm French but i don't smell of cheese or French bread

  • @TomBean21 Oui oui.

  • I haven't even seen this movie or trailer... so why am I crying so much!!

  • @nutsandbabybutts u really need to watch it, too bad u saw one of the best scene in the film

  • That kid is quality, he's been making me cry for 15 years!!!

  • The boy (T.J) performed incredibly well. What a scene!!!!!

  • The boy (T.J) performed incredibly well. What a scene!!!!!

  • if only the music were gone, this would be even more wrenching. the music is so soothing that it dampens the emotions... if it were just quiet there would be no comfort and you would just have to face the harsh emotions. much more honest film that way.

  • Damnit I cried so much! And when he told "wake up, champ! Wake up!" IT KILLED ME D':

  • Ive never seen this movie and this scene almost had me in tears. :'(

  • Thumbs up if readers digest got you here

  • My mom told me about this... she told me that when she got out of the movies... there was no dry eyes in sight... so true..

  • GIVE THAT KID A FUCKING OSCAR

  • i cried. no bullshit. and when the kid is like "get up, champ! get up!" im like dammit

  • Damn this brought tears to my eyes yo

  • My teacher told me that the director couldn't get the kid to cry for real so the little kids mother told the director it was ok to tell the kid that his dog died so he would cry for real

    Is that horrible or what!

but he did an awesome job... i cried ;(

  • Did this kid win an Oscar?

  • i'm cryin out my dick

  • Didnt cry....I guess Different Strokes for Different fokes...

  • wtf this isnt even sad

  • My Psychology research forced me to watch this!

  • My God. .. this little boy is a born artist.

  • well if you watch it without belief obviously the acting will seem funny, but if you suspend disbelief and just feel the utter grief,

i mean i don't know how this kid does it but i've been at the deathbed of my grandmother and I can tell you he gets it down perfectly.

I've never cried in a movie until this

  • 24 pessoas são gays.

  • the dumbest thing happened i was on the verge of tears and when he died he like went limp and closed his eyes and i thought, "if he actually died his eyes wouldnt hav closed and he wouldnt hav jerked liked that and then that kinda completely ruined it"

  • omg i cant believe i actually cried

  • I heard from a friend this was the saddest scene ever yet I didnt cry maby its because I didnt see the movie

  • I was ok until he started screaming "wake up, wake up Champ, We gotta go home".

  • Schroder ! What impossible act! What a great movie ever!

  • wtf is this?

  • ¡Siempre existe un CAMPEON en nuestra vida!

  • out of about 1000 sad scenes this 1 made me cry like a bitch ;(

  • damn....how can such a little child can act like that???

  • I cared as much as if someone cried their dad died irl. And that's not a whole lot of caring....but quite a bit of laughing.

  • the best acting i ever seen

    this kid was amazing

  • I FEEL SO HORRIBLE FOR NOT CRYING AND LAUGHING A LTTLE. :( NOW I'M CRYING.

  • the acting so awful.

  • Holy crap, i hope this kid already ha an Oscar.

  • so is sue

  • OMG , WTF is wrong with this kid !!!!!!!!!!

  • Makes me think of my 2 yr old son. Sad ending

  • heartbreaking omg saddest film ever

  • WOW

  • OK, I cry at EVERYTHING. I'm talking ASPCA commercials-balling my eyes out. This did NOTHING to me. I don't get it. Sad, I guess, but I didn't even tear up once.

  • @BooHiss94 see the movie

  • Child's performance in this scene Xi is reasonable, I did not feel for one moment that scene from the film, if I see a real scene, how many finished with a wonderful and moving at the same time, O God, I cried

  • he's gone...fuckin get it

  • This is supposedly the one quick scene that makes everybody cry? OK. It's pretty sad.

  • da fauq?

what is this like a child film or what?

    who was this marketed to?

  • This beats ET hands down. This has to be the saddest film I have ever seen in my entire life.

  • i'm pretty sure i just cried for 10 minutes.....it was an amazing movie, but the ending killed me!

  • Makes me feel like crying every time I watch this film, Great Film

  • one of sadness ending to a movie, is also a great movie

  • I saw this when I was 11 & it made me feel closer to my dad. He never knew it.

  • I usually cry when I watch most sad movies (forrest gump, etc), But I didn't in this scene. I mean, it's just a death scene, I wasn't really sad at all, let alone crying.

  • This is difficult to fap to.

  • this scene has actually been scientifically cited as the "saddest movie scence." i wanted to see if it was true, so i watched it without any background on the film and it is - im actually crying right now

  • @broadwaybaby1594 Where can I watch this movie online,please?

  • @broadwaybaby1594 thatb was a mistake for them the saddest movie ever is Hachiko:A Dogs Story

  • this was copied from lion king just had to say that these are the parts that are copied "wake up dad" and "we gotta go home"

  • @mileycyrusfan4091 This movie was made in 1978. When was the lion king made you retard

  • @RunalzOrz It was made when yo mama lost her virginity and got fat

  • @mileycyrusfan4091

Nice comeback. In other words, you don't know sh$% about sh$%, but you're going to comment anyway.

  • @emncaity in other words you dont know when YOUR mom lost her virginity and got fat

  • @mileycyrusfan4091

    Yeah. That's it.

I'll bet all the 7th-grade girls think you're just so naughty and fun. Ooo. Cut me low.

  • @emncaity cant because your mama lost her virginity and got fat

  • @broadwaybaby1594 i read that in readers digest, so i came on here to see if it made me cry. it didnt, but it was cute.

  • @broadwaybaby1594 Yup, read that in Reader's Digest and wanted to see if it was true. Nek Minnit - balling like a baby.

  • T_T

  • Not as sad as Ferdie the Fox getting shot in that Casper cartoon.

  • impactante escena se me puso la piel de gallina muy triste

  • the most sad scene ever!!

  • i wan't the song damn, i want the fickin' song DDDDDD':

  • This killed my erection.

  • OH MY GOD THIS IS SOOOOOOOO SAAAAAAAAD

  • i hope the boy is ricky schroder because he certainly was the best actor in there.

  • i wanna cry but my brother is next to me and he`s gonna think that im fagg

  • @oskar182avila It doesn't make you look like a fag because you watch a movie and have feelings. It makes you a better man because you do have compassion for others:)

  • @klm1969 thats true , next time im gonna cry and i dont care who is next to me! tnx.

  • Had me when he said

"no champ, dont sleep, we gotta go home!"

    damn...

  • My keyboard is wet.

Great scene, so sad, I'm crying.

  • The saddest scene ever

  • Made me cry. the lil boy is an amazing actor.

  • T________________T

  • Comment removed

  • wow, Shroder is an acting beast!

  • This didn't make me cry but Ross and Rachel breaking up on Friends made me cry

  • Yes, Rick Schroder won a Golden Globe Award for this.

  • Several years ago I saw the 1931 movie and Jackie Coogan broke my heart in this scene. Rick Schroder does it justice too. Fine acting by any standards.

  • How did he die?

  • Rick shroder you rule

  • Fuck I just put on my mascara... T.T

  • i hate these days kid actors they all just overacting

  • 22 people didnt want the champ to wake up.

  • EVERYONE , will go through this one day

  • Champi, champi ........

  • A scene in which a child loses his innocence and understands what death is. I think that could be the most hear-breaking thing that can occur in your life.

  • this is the real-life equivalent to the scene in the Lion King where Mufasa dies... ):

  • I want to be contrarian (like everyone else) and say the kid didn't make me cry and it wasn't that good, but alas, I cannot: that was VERY well acted for a fetus-age Schroedinger, the cat.

Seriously though, that was actually bad ass. ("Schroedinger, the cat": ok ok bad joke). As in really good. Awesome good.

Doesn't seem far-fetched, either: just tell the kid "What if your daddy was named Champ and he was DEAD? Ok, action!". Ta-da! Tears galore.

This means Schroeder peaked at age 4, non?

  • One fact to keep in mind is how the "saddest" was established. Obviously movies pre-research (95 or 89 depending on the article) and that it had to be a short scene where no outside knowledge of the context that scene was in was necessary. I agree there are movies that build up to much sadder overall, but not with a run time of 2 minutes or less. And of course tastes change over time, what is scary in 1980s is funny today..

  • i cried

  • I cried :'(

  • you dont can't see it right now but someones pinching his lil balls and making him cry like that... only explanation :S.... if its not true then holy shit this kids awesome

  • Holy fuck this fucking Gary Busey teeth make it impossible to feel any emotion

  • Someone should have kicked the kid in the balls. Add a little comic-relief.

  • so true and painful

  • he's the boy from "silver spoons" Tv show :)

  • Hm, didn't make me cry, but it was sad.

  • I've never ever seen this movie, but couldn't help it.. Cried and cried, your heart breaks for this little kid.. I've have a daugther and just the thought of being apart from her like that is heartbreacking!!!

I think he got a golden globe for this role :) He's really good !!

  • i watched this when it first aired! this is only sene ever made that is worse then any flood! been crying over this for years! CAN'T STOP !!!!

  • Cried like a baby. Another one that gets me every time is that scene in Dumbo-you know, when his mother is in the cage and she holds him with her truck? Oh man, that just opens the floodgates.

  • i've never seen this movie but just watching this made me cry :'(

  • this scene alone didn't do much for me just now...the build up to this scene makes you cry your eyes out though, so yeah...guess this is the saddest scene

  • "GEORGIE! .....don't crY!" ..

  • oh my godness :( i want to take the little boy into my arms :( so, i think he is a really good actor, how hold is he? 4 or 5 years? respect! Oo

  • Oh damn i didnt cry but it reminds me of a story that happend to a friend of mine his dad got a heart attack in the car and it drove in to a bush and the door was blocked by a tree not the driverseat the front passenger seat and guess who was in it ... it was my friend blocked beside his dead father

  • Its a good film but i can understand why this has got dislikes cause its a very sad part in the film and it might upset a lot of people.

  • Ok started tearing up around 30sec then full blown by the end, face stinging with tears

  • Ricky Schroeder is such a great actor, even at that young age.

  • One of the best movies ever made.

  • I've been told by so many people he got a golden globe, I get the point. Stop spamming me with the same thing. D:

  • Rick Schroder has looked that same since the day he was born I think.

  • Wow. Just amazing. What a great actor and such a young age.

  • I bet they told Schroeder that Voight really was dead.

  • Amazing! A very under-appreciated talent in that kid for sure. I grew up watching him and never realized how truly great his acting ability is until now. I've never seen the movie and I didn't think a little clip could affect me, but dang it sure did!

  • wow, this movie looks really bad. obviously the psychologists had way too small of a sample size, because i've seen scenes that invoke way more pure sadness than this (obviously we can only count movies that were out before the study). Might invoke more sadness if you've seen the movie before, I suppose.

  • Hahahahahahahahaha

  • To be fair to you assholes who got this hyperlink from Slate.com, the intensity of sadness is determined by build-up. Standing alone, this scene takes the cake.

  • i am 16, i haven't seen this movie in over 10 year...and yes, i cried again -.-

  • I can't believe this is the same Ricky Schroder from Silver Spoons.

  • I was taking a dumb while wacthing this.... even my poop cried :'(

  • Apparently Rick Schroeder rewrote that scene in his trailer 20 mins before it was shot and, rumour has it, also did craft services on the project. A real talent.

  • What solid acting choices for a a nine year old. That's rare.

  • IT FEELS LIKE I'M CHOPPING ONIONS WHILE WATCHING THIS!! THAT MIGHT BE THE SCIENCE WHY THIS MOVIE IS THE SADDEST OF ALL TIME!!

  • STOP CRYING KID! UR MAKING ME CRY MY ASS OFF!!

  • that was BEYOND acting! that was THE most moving scene I ever saw in a movie. Nothing comes close and I've seen em' all

  • The kid is a young Rick Schroder.

  • the kid sure knows how to act

  • i think mi sister's keeper was a killing one i creied all movie long it sucked!

  • people who dont think this is sad is crazy. this movie is really sad. You have to watch this from the beginning. and they cut some of this to shorten it. It still moves me watching this. I will also add Simon Birch to that list for sure of saddest movies, and of course Old Yeller!!

  • Great acting and yeah it was sad but Disney movies I still think top the list for most people. The Lion King, Bambi and of course The Fox and The Hound. Worst movie I ever saw and I cried from beginning to end was Fluke.

  • almost... but its no Bambi.. and also Harry and The Hendersons reeeally got to me.. u know what im talking about...

  • People need to realize that this scene was cut too short. In the actual movie, the father's EX walks in and cries too. The child, realizing that he will live with his mother from now on, hugs her as the sad music elevates. They then fade back and show the mom and child hugging and crying, with the dead father in the background. Painfully heart-breaking...

  • Guys, you can argue over which movie is the saddest all you want. Scientists have studied which movie scene promotes the most tears, and this scene wins hands down. They have the studies to prove it.
