1. Wonderful, passionate speech on issues few dare raise.
2. In respose to uzijohn's question about how he got into a position of power: shockingly, the old-fashioned way. He campaigned vigorously and got elected by the people of his district 9 times, by big margins.
As for your quote, it was said in jest. He's worked harder every day in Congress than most of us ever will. And he's made a difference for millions of people. How many of us can claim that?

Sure "Patches" makes a few good points
But wikipedia "Patrick J. Kennedy" and read the Bio, how could a person with his baggage ever get into a high position of power?
How can a man who once said "Ive never worked a fucking day in my life" represent us who work hard every day?
