Even though I didn't get to see Walter play I still look up to him as my biggest role model. My only dream is to go to college, play football and one day make it big and run like Walter. I know I'll never be exactly like him but I have the heart and will like he did on every down.
this is wat i like to see...im tired of running backs these days dancing around the field only to get no yardage payton lowered that shoulder and still stayed up...god wat an athlete he was
Awesome Vid m8. I miss the gritty nfl era when men got praise for being beastly on the field and not for their offfield antics and reality shows *sigh*
It was beautiful seeing him running like that it seems only yesterday he was with us. I know football as we know it would be so very different if Payton survived. If he was playing today and in the games where they are so close or were losing...Payton would have stepped up and created a win. That's the kind of player he was an inspired man who loved the game as much as Papa Bear...He was Jr. Bear all grown up!
Sssweetnesss was poetry in motion. He is by far...the best there is, the best there was and the best there EVER WILL BE!!! All I have to say is...Run Sssweetnesss Run...no one does it better! R.I.P. Sweet
can somebody please tell me his pregame/halftime chant? you know where the team puts their hands on their helmets then their thighs or something like that
We will all need pain killers sometime in our lives for something right? He just so happened to get hooked on them, and that caused some depression , that is not enough of a reason to smear his good name in that book by Pearlman. Walter was human, and the many times in my life I met him, he was all class, all the time. He will always be remembered as the greatest Bear of all time, and to me. the GREATEST IN NFL HISTORY. R.I.P SWEETNESS, NO MORE PAIN!!!!!!!!!! Shame on you Pearlman, ASS HOLE!
Walter might have taken pain killers after his career was over, but so what? He took a beating on the field and never backed down from a soul! Jeff Pearlman should be ashamed of himself!
Walter payton did drugs? complete bullshit. I love the the book says he did painkillers after he retired, yeah he was in pain still after he retired, but dont you think he would be in more pain while he played? so shouldn't he be taking painkillers during his career? Anyways i completely dont believe anything that book says. Walter Payton was so great off the field, im pretty sure he wouldnt of tried to be acting good for us,
A tear comes to my eye every time I watch this video. Just like Jarett said, not only was he the greatest to ever play the game, but he was a hero to millions of people.
I was fortunate enough to meet Walter Payton and to this date it is one of the most memorable experiences of my life. He not only set the bar as a football player but as a human being. No one ever played each down with more passion. By far, the best to ever play the game.
i did a speech in my communication a week ago. we had to do it one someone that influence us or we admire. my 3 minute speech was about how much of a great human being and athlete Walter Payton was and what he meant to me. the room gave me and standing ovation. that how powerful Walters life story can be
@Ballsdeep21379 Sanders was great, but as someone once said to me,"Sanders ran around lines, Payton not only ran through lines but danced through lines too!". He was not only a athlete but an artist as well!l
My Hero , i have Walter tattoo on my leg and became an organ donor because of Walter, a great person great husband and father and the Greatest player the NFL ever had. R.I.P walter payton we love you always.
@zepballer you also forget how great jim browns offensive line was. he could get to full speed before anyone could touch him every play... walter had to dodge, miss, spin, and truck three or five guys per play just to reach the line of scrimmage. walter played in a time where everyone was faster, bigger, smarter, and they all knew that walter was the only weapon they had. jim played when defenses were much much slower and stupid. he said himself that walter was the best ever.
Payton hightlights have more energy and desire than any other highlights out there. This man ran with heart! The rI hate the bears-but i love payton-the run at 1 50 is the best goaline run i have ever seen.
I remember what I was doing and where I was the minute my ex-wife told me sweetness had died...tears in my eyes and all. I don't care if you were a packers fans or any fan of any division...you respected him...you don't have to say it...but us BEARS fans know you did.
I love what he did as an athlete. I love what he did for the Bears. I love what he did for the game. I love what he did as a man. He was the epitome of class in all aspects of his life. I will always love Walter Payton.
some people think it's just a game- years ago i was at work when i heard he had passed - it stuck with me all day. he is one of the reasons why still jump out of my set and run around the house celebrateing a great play. thanks walter-memories live on
Just remember that, he didn't just run... he went into contact... run stopping contact.... SO many times, if there was a stat for that, which there should be, no one would ever beat the Sweetness.
I'm a cowboy fan but i respect Walter payton, such a great man, we miss you for who you were, but at the same time we don't, because you are in GOD's side
It was a blessing to get to watch Walter Payton play each week. Every Sunday was like a Holiday when you got to watch Walter Payton play. Your whole week revolved around watching Payton and the Bears. He was unique among players of his time or any other time. Simply the greatest running back I have ever watch play.
This guy refused to be tackled...like regularly, he would get hit or wrapped up even, and refuse to let the other team to take him down, that's bananas!...Barry Sanders would make you miss Walter went through cats, ON A REGULAR BASIS, of coarse he got tackled and plenty, but the force of will this cat had, is unique to him.
The best all-purpose, most versatile, complete football player in the history of the NFL, bar none; was capable of playing any position on the field, and damn near did.
Such a class act and one of the greatest ball players in the history of this game, how is it that such a legend falls to a rare kidney diesese? REST IN PEACE WALTER PAYTON
walter payton had a passion for playing football and had a will to win and if we had some people in this football league today like walter it would very differant than what it is now
I remember when I was a kid tuning in to watch the Bears play with my Dad just to watch Payton play. We always wound up just shaking our heads and chuckling at how great he was. The league misses you Sweetness! RIP.
@truckduck13, I hear that all the time, but I always have to ask, did you watch the game? The Patriots did an excellent job of limiting Payton by focussing much of their defensive efforts on him. It allowed us to score in many other ways but Payton, by his standards, was limited. He had several runs within the five yard line but never got more than two yards and even had a couple runs for a loss. So they gave one chance to the Fridge, and he put in. What's the big deal with that?
G.O.A.T. i never had the opportunity to watch him in real life since i was born in 1990 so all i have is highlights. even then i consider him a role model and he is the best rb of all time. i miss him and will always remember him when he died. RIP SWEETNESS
@anykenny12 im happy for you. but as you can see nobody on this video gives a fuck what you think. so thanks for the advice, you can go feel good that you "insulted" someone today
im a cowboys fan, but i still think walter payton was the best running back ever. he could make moves and he could sure as hell run your ass over. R.I.P sweetness, still got your orange authentic Jersey hanging up in my room man. We all miss ya
no running back will play like him. walter never ran out of bounds. nowadays a defender comes within 2 yds of the ball carrier they will run out of bounds to avoid a big hit. walter laid more hits than he took. a true american hero! R.I.P Sweetness we miss ya everyday
@indianstar6829 Why the hell is that, I know I'm not a running back in the NFL but how come you don't see any guys like that anymore these days. Payton was a motherfucking badass he would tear the soles out of his shoes to get better traction.
:'( this teared me up..RIP Sweetness ,,it would have been one of the biggest highlights in my life to have met a great person such as yourself..you are my will to fight and never give up, my inspiration..
What a class act in a day and age where where athletes beat women, drink & drive, disrepect the game & think only about themselves. Walter you are truly missed both on and off the field.
the only other player than ran like he did. is earl campbell. they ran over players to gain those extra yards needed. i mean if you have the guts to run over jack tatum and knock ur self and him out of the game. then you are amazing. walter would've done the same thing. Walter Payton will always be better than emmit smith. the record doesnt matter. walter had more skills than a bunch or running backs.
i think your the gretest i loved the bears so much and when i saw you i thought it was animaded because sweetness was so good and i will never doubt the bears again plus im a kid sick at home right know i always wathch your videos
i wish i could have met walter in person. he was a great football player. but he was an even greater person and human being. i can strongly say he was the kindest person on earth. this video makes me tear up. walter, you were the best rb ever. i wish he was still around. rest in peace brother.
Even though I didn't get to see Walter play I still look up to him as my biggest role model. My only dream is to go to college, play football and one day make it big and run like Walter. I know I'll never be exactly like him but I have the heart and will like he did on every down.

im a cowboys fan, but i still think walter payton was the best running back ever. he could make moves and he could sure as hell run your ass over. R.I.P sweetness, still got your orange authentic Jersey hanging up in my room man. We all miss ya
beastlysprinter10 1 year ago
no running back will play like him. walter never ran out of bounds. nowadays a defender comes within 2 yds of the ball carrier they will run out of bounds to avoid a big hit. walter laid more hits than he took. a true american hero! R.I.P Sweetness we miss ya everyday
indianstar6829 1 year ago
@indianstar6829 Why the hell is that, I know I'm not a running back in the NFL but how come you don't see any guys like that anymore these days. Payton was a motherfucking badass he would tear the soles out of his shoes to get better traction.

I get chills when I watch this. Payton was tougher than any running back in the history of this game.

What a class act in a day and age where where athletes beat women, drink & drive, disrepect the game & think only about themselves. Walter you are truly missed both on and off the field.

The greatest running back EVER! Totally agree! WE MISS YOU SWEETNESS. Hope you rest in peace. <3

the only other player than ran like he did. is earl campbell. they ran over players to gain those extra yards needed. i mean if you have the guts to run over jack tatum and knock ur self and him out of the game. then you are amazing. walter would've done the same thing. Walter Payton will always be better than emmit smith. the record doesnt matter. walter had more skills than a bunch or running backs.
