I think this is quite an innovative version. It doesn't strike me as elevator music, which by definition is a simplified and santitized version of a song. Listen to the jazz embellishments and tonal variations.

it's interesting how some bands choose to make a cover of a song they don't actually grasp the meaning of. Only The Doors and maybe a couple of other bands can explore the darkness behind such "innocent" lyrics. The Free Design singing light my fire sounds to me like Ozzy Osbourne trying to sing gospel music. such a pitty, their version strikes me more as "elevator music"...
