By the way, what about putting a tin boat shed under the overpass at the Harlem River bike lane/park on the Manhattan side too? There is water access there (behind a gate, but it's THERE at least) I often pull up my boat there and it would be an ideal kayak launch site. How bout it?
I live in the South Bronx and we have two Kayaks, I'm MYSTIFIED why there's no little boathouse here, they have the space and a dock would be easy. The only trouble is you can't always get under the rail crossing, there is a better launch site near a storage center-- but I think you guys know about that-- that site is a public "right of way" it's a street, a totally legal launch, where we leave from most often.
Great video. NY is a city of islands - when will the city agencies understand the difference between "waterfront access" and "water access"? People don't just want to look at the water, they want to TOUCH it! If we had a video like this for every spot on the waterfront where NYers would like to access the water, perhaps city agencies would get it and restore public access to our shared open space on the water in ALL NY's communities.
looks like a great way to spend a summer day - bring the water to the people and the people to the water. Great project! Let us know how to help give these kids the access they know should be theirs.
