btony123 How old are you...12? What law did these people break? I want you to name the statute. If the cop could have answered the question as to what law these people were breaking he would have stated it. Guess you'll finally "Wake up" when the feds, military, homeland security and TSA come and kick you door in and put you into a FEMA concentration camp for being a human being or just for the hell of it. (NDAA) National Defense Authorization Act. Welcome to 21st century Nazi Germany jerk.
@patbee9 Bud, this is the law stated by Kuhnmartin a few statements below. These people in the video were there on Saturday, May 28, 2011 protesting the decision made the previous week against Oberwetter. They even had camera's there to record their event knowing full well they would be arrested for breaking the law.
I'll say this much, yes, you all succeeded in proving you CAN enforce 'freedom' of expression, but should you at all times? What point did you make? Dancing at a place of historical reverence takes away the sense of respect for one of the founding father's of our country. These types of people disgust me.
@btonyb123 The protestors. These officers tried to talk to them, but its obvious they've been antagonizing these guys for some time now. The guy screaming, 'my arm!' purposely put himself in an arm lock with someone getting taken down and then tries to assist someone to escape? All of this is staged for the sake of antagonizing the cops here. In the end, yes, the protestors won and they had a few hours of purposely dancing in the monument in front of the cops, as a sort of fuck you
These are boring people with no excitement in their lives and nothing else to do with their time, so they antagonize the police and violate city ordinances. They have no clue what Police Brutality is. They make a mockery of people who protest legitimate issues and innocent people who get their Civil Rights violated by Police.
granted their being retarted and disrespectful. and yeah maybe they deserve to get taken to the ground. but arrested?? my boss was retarted and disrespectful to me and i took him to the ground.. and I got arrested...?? WTF why can cops do it but WE cant then
@jonpow4004 yeah arrest them so you can pay for their food water heat and electricity. they just need a good knock in the stomach or throat thats all.
These guys completely provoked the police. They can't follow simple directions. I am glad they were arrested. I can't stand people like this. They provoke the police into a response, then when the police respond, they person calls out "Police brutality!" or "Police State!" Those kinds of people are absurd. They need to get a job and a life and do something productive for themselves and for society.
@kuhnmartin They were protesting when asked what law they were breaking the police officer had no response cos they were breaking no law the police should uphold the law not make it up on the spot or break it.
@kuhnmartin Since when is it wrong to protest? I did not see or hear any provocation they asked quite politely what they were being arrested for he had no answer so they were not breaking any laws. People dancing is nothing really I don't think that people should just be arrested because a policemen decides so. They should not try making laws on the hoof that's not justice to me. I think the police were wrong on this occasion.
@btonyb123 Since when is it wrong to protest? How about, since when is it wrong to disrupt the peace? That's a law, and they WERE in violation of it. They were at a memorial and they were disrupting the peace. If they want to protest somewhere else, on the streets then fine. But not at the Thomas Jeffersonn memorial where people go and bring their children on vacation to see a historical landmark. They did not make up the laws on the spot, the people broke them. Simple.
@kuhnmartin It' guaranteed in the constitution it's called the right to assembly. It does not say you have a right to assemble only if you are not making too much noise that you are distracting others. As you know Thomas Jefferson helped write the constitution so what better place could there be to protest. The police this time in my view were too heavy handed and wrong. They get it right many times. But please inform me what laws did they break. How many were distracted did you talk to them?
@btonyb123 The law they broke was the law they were protesting against. The law, which had just passed in a court decision said that expressive dancing is the same as picketing and marching and is against the law in certain areas of national monuments, including the Jefferson Memorial. That is what law they broke, and they went there with the sole intention of breaking it. However stupid the law sounds, it is a law, and they broke it. There protest was to dance which breaks the law.
@kuhnmartin So then you must be against the civil rights march headed by Dr Martin Luther king that went to the Abraham Lincoln memorial to protest about American inequalities in Society?
@btonyb123 So, now that you know what law they broke, did the police over react for doing their job, and enforcing the law? No, they did what our taxes pay them for. They enforced the law, however stupid that law sounds, and it does sound a little ridiculous, but, they still broke the law and that is the police officers' job to enforce it. These guys wanted to make things difficult for the police and they got what they deserved. So, that is the law they broke. Any more questions?
@kuhnmartin They did not break the law at at that time it was ruled on at a later time the police did overreact as all human do at some time or another. even if people make the polices job difficult it does not give the police the right assault people.
@btonyb123 By the way, the woman in the video, Mary Oberwetter, sued on free speech grounds, however, the appeals court ruled against her saying her conduct was indeed prohibited "because it stands out as a type of performance, creating its own center of attention and distracting from the atmosphere of solemn commemoration" that Park Service regulations are designed to preserve. So, it is against the law. Whether you agree or not, it is the law. Any other rebuttals for your argument?
@kuhnmartin I stand corrected Ok they broke the law. I personally think the Judges went against the spirit of the constitution though. When you first play the video the noise is quite loud before they were dancing. It seems in America and in my country Britain that they are clamping down on the freedom of assembly which I personally believe is intrinsic to our democratic freedoms.
@kuhnmartin "saying her conduct was indeed prohibited "because it stands out as a type of performance, creating its own center" Your sentence is in the past tense not present tense or future tense. So I thought it was a later time that the court ruled upon this. Maybe you should be more specific.
@btonyb123 That was actually a direct quote from a news source at the time. Personally, I think the law sounds kinda lame, but whatever. The police did not assault anyone. Tell me where in the video the police assaulted someone without the person either a) disobeying a lawful order b) resisting arrest or c) obstructing. All three of those are breaking the law and can/will get you arrested. Case in point, this video.
@btonyb123 Freedom to assemble is all fine and well, but sometimes it gets out of hand, and when that happens, they sometimes will change the law to fit with the times. What worked for us 235 years ago might now work for us today. Laws to change with the times. There was a time when it was against the law for a black man to vote or own property. Times have changed. That is the nature of a growing and changing society. When Occupy Wall Street started, they were allowed to assemble.
@btonyb123 However, when they started trashing everything and mugging people, then things changed. So, like I said, when things like that happen, the laws will tend to change over time to help keep the peace, because that is what the laws or for, to keep the peace and help make society function well for everyone. I am all for people's rights, up until the point where they break the law. When they do that, then they suffer the consequences whatever they may be.
@btonyb123 But you CANNOT assemble, then break the law, then try to hide behind your first amendment right and use it as a shield to protect yourself for breaking the law. "Well, yeah, I broke the law but it's my first amendment right to assemble." The first amendment does not give you or anyone else the right to break the law. If you do, you go to jail. Plain and simple, and that is what happened here.
@kuhnmartin I think that the policeman did not know what law he could use to arrest them but found a buy law later that suited that's not justice it's arbitrary detention. You are wrong on two points firstly assault is just touching a person. Secondly you claimed that the Judges ruled before the individuals went to the Jefferson memorial that's completely wrong. They were protesting on April 12 2008 the court case was not ruled on until the week of may 17th 20011 reported by the Washington Wire
@kuhnmartin Furthermore, as you probably know there are interpretative Judges and literal judges. The court ruled in an interpretative sense in my view. If the protesters had been heard by a Judge who reads the law literally things could have gone differently for them. The fourth amendment states: the right of the people to be secure in their persons, ect against unreasonable searches and seizures shall not be violated.
@kuhnmartin Moreover, the police in my opinion were completely unreasonable in their methods against a peaceful demonstration that would have passed off as easily as it started.
@btonyb123 Again, I ask. Tell me where in the video the police assaulted someone without the person either a) disobeying a lawful order b) resisting arrest or c) obstructing.
@btonyb123 And you are wrong. These people in the video were there on Saturday, May 28, 2011 protesting the decision made the previous week against Oberwetter. They even had camera's there to record their event knowing full well they would be arrested for breaking the law.
@btonyb123 Okay, you might think they were heavy handed, but I think they did a great job, and regardless of what we think, the protesters did break the law and they suffered the consequences for their actions. When you decide to break the law, you have to accept the repercussions for your actions. If you don't want to go through that, then don't break the law. But these protesters got exactly what they deserved.
BS - yes they were dancing, but they were dancing as a form of protest and they did not have a permit to protest this national monument. Grow up and stop posting videos with misleading titles.
you can dance if u wana you can leave your freind behind e.e but will arest you :D but if they dont dance and if they dont dance they .. dont get arested :D
The protesters realized that that they'd incite some sort of counteraction to the dancing as its obviously mutually acknowledged by all parties involved that the dancing proved to be a problem for the monument's security in the past. Even if the initial reaction to the dancing accompanies the unwarranted actions of the officers in this video that only shows they knew what they were getting in to. In which case, this shouldn't be a surprise? Bad approach, but they WERE treated unfairly.
CincySpeed is a moron like the cops in this video. Arrested for dancing ? Really ? When did the no dancing in a public place become a law. Get a clue and think before you comment on a video. It seems to me that you must be a cop yourself to make such a remark. Welcome to the new world order ladies and gentlemen. It's sad but true that the planet earth is actually planet cop. God bless to those that stand strong. What was the final outcome to this? Civilization 1 Cops Nada.
@fidoblanko100 Since you clearly don't understand due process of the law, I'll explain it to you. The police are not a part of the branch that makes the law; they are the part that enforces it. CLEARLY it was law there, otherwise there wouldn't be people unlawfully protesting it. If the police were in the wrong, the judge would dismiss the case, no harm, no foul! And no, I'm not a police officer; just an informed citizen who recognized people being arrested for breaking te law
This group wanted trouble and got what they asked for. One guy is even wearing a shirt that says disobey. Do they think their right to demonstrate is greater than the rights of everyone else to have a peaceful visit to a national memorial? I'm glad the cops didn't back down.
@Rebel6911 any statement made on a garment is not with standing ( at least in Jefferson's eyes ) To dance and enjoy ones self in the heart of the memorial to the founder of freedom and liberty is acceptable , do you think Thomas would have stopped and arrested them or danced with them ? To decent against unjust laws & oppression is our duty as functioning members of a free society- the right to decent out weights any peaceful visit to anything, the only violence I saw was the police
@TheBigvolt Give me a break. These people are not demonstrating for a noble cause. They are demonstrating because they feel that their right to dance is more important than the rights of others to have a peaceful visit to a national memorial. If there is a law it's probably there because others felt that their right to peacefully visit this memorial had been infringed. Did these folks try to talk to anybody before taking this action? I bet not. They just wanted some attention.
Gotta say, the cops were in the right here. It all boils down to you violate the law, you go to jail. You want an infringement of the law? Obstruction of justice. They can inform you of your violation when they read you your meranda rights, not when it's convenient for you!
@xxxonrails Unlawful assembly. Resisting arrest. Creating a public Nuisance? Those are just a few off the top of my head. I don't know what the revised code for the area would say regaurding the specifics of the "no dancing law," but the 3 previous still apply. I'm not condoning the rediculousness of the law... just the means by which the "demonstration" against the law was conducted. Good thing they weren't protesting a firearms law... eh?!
I thought this video was pretty hilarious. It is the law. No dancing at the Jefferson Memorial. I have a sneaking suspicion that they knew that and did it anyway because of how ridiculous the law is. Yes, it violates the Constitution, but if you want to avoid jail just don't do it. Unfortunately the Constitution is disappearing.
Sir you are not allowed to talk you are not allowed to dance you are a slave of the New American Empire you do as I say what you can do. Hail Dark Vaider!. Im seeing star wars episode 0 birth of the resistance fighters. lol
Where did this happen and did they get kicked out of the police force? I can't imagine NOTHING would happen to these cunts when they are even being filmed with a clear camera.
lol these comments are funny. They were warned, they didnt listen they were placed under arrest and the law they are breaking is creating a public Nusience, or how ever its spelt,
man i held these cops in such high reguards, i respected them, encouraged them, until I, MYSELF became a victim of this fucking bullshit. I see the truth now. Fuck America. Fuck this place that is the land of "Freedom".
COPS are EVIL!!! They are no different then a gang....most are uneducated, dim witted, bully on the outside and coward on the inside, and afraid to let their Brothers see them back away from a confrontation.
Has anyone heard the right to remain silent? That guys yelling for the sgt is in the right. That fucking piglet that told him to shut up could fuck off for all i care i wouldnt shut up either.. partially because i would be so enraged. Ill yell in the cops ear.. im sure what ever you could say at the memorial really cant incriminate your self.. when you start to incriminated your self.. is when you exercise the right to remain silent.. otherwise id keep screaming.
I don't understand why you guys get angry at these men. Their orders are "don't let people dance in public places" and they do their job. don't get angry at the one that execute the orders, get mad at the guy that made them.
these officers have my entire support and you should be thankful you have officers that follow their orders no matter how stupid they are.
@Lechoni21 Wow I can't believe someone who used his own eyes to see this footage would say this. I am sure you would be just like these uneducated morons and do what someone tells you to do even if it goes against any moral code. You know what I order you to go jump off the bridge. Would you please do that for me. Fucking moron, stop throwing out your opinion they only damage the people.
I'm surprised there aren't more attacks on these god damn cowards....The problem is that it's way to easy to become a cop, and although some people do it for the right reasons, like honor, ALOT of them become cops because they're GOD DAMN COWARDS. They do it so they can act and feel tough. Look at the old, out of shape fag who threw the bald guy down. If they were both civilians, that old whimpy lookin fart would probably be bleeding from his ears. Look at the pussy looking rookie...Point made
This crap makes me sick, there are so many screwed up PIGS in the world, I've seen plenty of this kind of rediculous violation of human rights and freedom, even in Canada. Thank god for camera phones these days, at least SOME of these corrupt pigs are being exposed. Cops are given WAYYYY too much power. "Hey, that guy over there is dancing, I should go slam him on the ground".... Civilians go to jail and are charged with assault for much less than that...Makes me furious!
@human0un Do you know what the memorial represents ?? these people in the video are using the memorial and then subsequent police action as a metaphor for whats fucked up with the country ! i think you need to do some serious research my friend then come back and comment on the video in an educated way instead of calling these people in the video scumbags ! cheers
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME AT THE 2011 NOTTINGHAM CARNIVAL SMFH.I WAS WALKING DOWN THE ROAD PEACEFULLY WITH MY FRIENDS,ENJOYING THE MUSIC AND NICE WEATHER,THEN POLICE JUST RAN TOWARDS US FOR NO REASON AND FELT THE NEED TO STOP AND SEARCH US.I TRIED TO SLIDE AWAY FROM THE CROWD SO THE POLICE OFFICER GRABBED ME,AND I TOLD HIM TO TAKE IT EASY,HARD HEADED LIKE THE POLICE WERE THEY DID NOT LISTEN SO I STARTED SHHOUTING AND SWEARING BECAUSE THEY WERE USING TO MUCH POWER......
WE BLACK,WHITE,HISPANIC ALL RACES AND ALL ETHNICITIES NEED TO COME TOGETHER AS ONE AND FIGHT THE FUCKING GOVERNMENT AND STATE POLICE.INSTEAD OF KILLING EACH OTHER AND DESTROYING THE ENVIRONMENT WE NEED TO COME TOGETHER AND FIGHT OFF THESE MOTHER FUCKERS.CAN'T YOU PEOPLE SEE THAT ALL THESE YEARS WE HAVE BEEN BRAINWASHED TO FIGHT AGAINST EACH OTHER,COMPETE AGAINST EACH OTHER AND KILL ONE ANOTHER.THESE ARE THE KIND OF PEOPLE WE SHOULD BE FIGHTING AGAINST NOT OUR NEIGHBOURS
Seriously I hope these cops went to jail for their abuses and if that Thomas Jefferson statue could move, it would knock those idiots for dead beat cops right upside the head for their very illegal actions. Bums with Badges!!!!
So much for the constitution! So much for a free country, so much for the right to demonstrate, so much for no arrest without probable cause.....so now hugging and dancing is an arrestable offence? Didnt know America was turning to Islamic Law!
There are some serious crimes going on, rape, murder, drugs, gangs, and these COCKSUCKING NAZI'S waisted my tax dollars arresting a man and a woman hugging?
And all this time I tought terrorists where the worlds biggest dumbfucks.
It's NAZI'S like this that brings a heartfelt delight when I see/read in the news that a cop got shot in the head while on his lunch break in his car.FUCKING BASTARDS
On another note, spreading hate about an entire race of people (Americans) is no better than what these "cops" are doing. Many officers aren't like this. I am an American and I am embarrased that these fucking worthless pigs in uniforms call themselves American.. they give the rest of us who just want peace and happiness, worldwide, a bad name. I don't know how this shit is legal or allowed.. they all should have lost their jobs.
clearly y'all don't understand that all cops ain't like this... you stupid fucking idiots... if you ain't american get your alien ass off this video you idiot
@python178 Of course I'm not.. did you not read the comment I left right after that? My point is that you need to stop exaggerating shit by saying stupid stuff like what you said, people already have horrible opinions about innocent and kind hearted Americans as it is without having you, an American yourself, comparing your own country to Nazi Germany. Obviously not all of America is like this, in fact 90% of it isn't.
@AdoreYouInAshXI actually this type of thing happens quite often. we are so far from what our forefathers wanted to this country. fear mongering and warmongering has been traded for our civil liberties on a grand scale. freedoms ive shed blood for. so dont even attempt to tell me what my opinion of this should be. its outrageous.
Supposed that US attacking other countries because have terrorists or dictators and at the end the terrorism/dictatorship is inside US by the authorities..........!
Sir and i use the term fukin loosely Kastrishis i would like to see your basic human rites violated to show you where this type of marshal law leads the people to extreme violence like the shootings in ohio were the national guard gunned down innocent protesters some that were not even involved in the protests
Out of all the videos i;ve seen... this truly SCARED ME I MEAN HEART RACING SCARED OMFG THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE.. I WOULD HAVE DANCE MY FUCKING ASS OFF.. Mabye sing a bit of John Lennons Imagine too :)
Isn't it kind of disrespectful to dance and carry on like drunks at someones memorial in general? Not to mention one of our great leaders? I donno, I think these guys were asking for it.
Would any of you go to your fathers grave and dancer all over it??!
@706colga our forefathers said that the constitution cant government an immoral society. we live in an immoral society where people don't care about other people if they don't believe like they do. so we just try and pass laws that benefit ourselves instead of laws that help the united states as a whole.
Gotta love it when cops make fools of themselves on camera...

kuhnmartin 2 days ago
@kuhnmartin I think that the policeman did not know what law he could use to arrest them but found a buy law later that suited that's not justice it's arbitrary detention. You are wrong on two points firstly assault is just touching a person. Secondly you claimed that the Judges ruled before the individuals went to the Jefferson memorial that's completely wrong. They were protesting on April 12 2008 the court case was not ruled on until the week of may 17th 20011 reported by the Washington Wire
btonyb123 2 days ago
@kuhnmartin Furthermore, as you probably know there are interpretative Judges and literal judges. The court ruled in an interpretative sense in my view. If the protesters had been heard by a Judge who reads the law literally things could have gone differently for them. The fourth amendment states: the right of the people to be secure in their persons, ect against unreasonable searches and seizures shall not be violated.
btonyb123 2 days ago
@kuhnmartin Moreover, the police in my opinion were completely unreasonable in their methods against a peaceful demonstration that would have passed off as easily as it started.
btonyb123 2 days ago
@btonyb123 Again, I ask. Tell me where in the video the police assaulted someone without the person either a) disobeying a lawful order b) resisting arrest or c) obstructing.
kuhnmartin 2 days ago
@kuhnmartin If you touch someone it's classed as assault it's to degrees. The cops in my view were heavy handed
btonyb123 1 day ago
@btonyb123 And you are wrong. These people in the video were there on Saturday, May 28, 2011 protesting the decision made the previous week against Oberwetter. They even had camera's there to record their event knowing full well they would be arrested for breaking the law.
kuhnmartin 2 days ago
@kuhnmartin Then the law is an ass
btonyb123 1 day ago
@btonyb123 Okay, you might think they were heavy handed, but I think they did a great job, and regardless of what we think, the protesters did break the law and they suffered the consequences for their actions. When you decide to break the law, you have to accept the repercussions for your actions. If you don't want to go through that, then don't break the law. But these protesters got exactly what they deserved.

AtllasVonHousen 5 days ago
The protesters realized that that they'd incite some sort of counteraction to the dancing as its obviously mutually acknowledged by all parties involved that the dancing proved to be a problem for the monument's security in the past. Even if the initial reaction to the dancing accompanies the unwarranted actions of the officers in this video that only shows they knew what they were getting in to. In which case, this shouldn't be a surprise? Bad approach, but they WERE treated unfairly.
Hobdor1 5 days ago
CincySpeed is a moron like the cops in this video. Arrested for dancing ? Really ? When did the no dancing in a public place become a law. Get a clue and think before you comment on a video. It seems to me that you must be a cop yourself to make such a remark. Welcome to the new world order ladies and gentlemen. It's sad but true that the planet earth is actually planet cop. God bless to those that stand strong. What was the final outcome to this? Civilization 1 Cops Nada.
fidoblanko100 5 days ago

Rebel6911 6 days ago
@Rebel6911 any statement made on a garment is not with standing ( at least in Jefferson's eyes ) To dance and enjoy ones self in the heart of the memorial to the founder of freedom and liberty is acceptable , do you think Thomas would have stopped and arrested them or danced with them ? To decent against unjust laws & oppression is our duty as functioning members of a free society- the right to decent out weights any peaceful visit to anything, the only violence I saw was the police
TheBigvolt 5 days ago
@TheBigvolt Give me a break. These people are not demonstrating for a noble cause. They are demonstrating because they feel that their right to dance is more important than the rights of others to have a peaceful visit to a national memorial. If there is a law it's probably there because others felt that their right to peacefully visit this memorial had been infringed. Did these folks try to talk to anybody before taking this action? I bet not. They just wanted some attention.

STOP resisting ARREST you lawbreakers ! !
CubanExile 6 days ago
Gotta say, the cops were in the right here. It all boils down to you violate the law, you go to jail. You want an infringement of the law? Obstruction of justice. They can inform you of your violation when they read you your meranda rights, not when it's convenient for you!
CincySpeed 6 days ago
@CincySpeed oh and what laws were they violating? do tellll...
xxxonrails 6 days ago
