He is so sweet. It seems that some of the essence from where the beauty of his films stem comes out here, and carries over to the viewer. And the interviewer is showing him what an outside viewer sees in form. And there is something regarding the key to that beauty, that Mr. Anderson is rather unaware of those structures. And I feel like I'm watching a subtle self-disclosure rather than an interview.
PTA says hes always been a behind the camera sort of guy and even mentions that acting seems like one of the hardest things to do. But I think this guy would be brilliant in front of the camera. I love watching this guy! He is such a great character.
"No, because, no no no, because, I want, no, because, I want, because, no, because, I love those movies, you know? I think i was just...I think that i...I think that I...I think i love those movies that have a lot of good love stories in them..."
At last I have come across an interview in which the interviewer is intelligent, poses great questions and responds with his own ideas. So often interviewers are idiots like Chuck the Movie Guy.
I love how Paul is so laid back, yet cares so much and understands things. That to me is a great person. And his films make you think and bring out messages. Magnolia is my favourite film.
I really said that because of the rush of the moment,
I can't really compare him to Kubrick. Kubrick defined Sci Fi. You know this off course. PTA will continue, hopefully, to entertain and make us "think". anyway, what is your opinion?
i don't think he's high. maybe. but he's got so much energy and nervous energy and is so unpretentious that he has his head jumping all over and is just so grateful for all of the bits of information that this obviously articulate interviewer is throwing out. (sorry, that sentence is sort of an example of what i'm talking about)
it's like looking at your work through new eyes, being subjective, and processing another point of view on something you've created.
I don't think he's overanalyzing as there is so much depth toit, the movie is so rich and works on so many levels. I think that PTA is just uncomfortable at the attention and trying desperately not to appear pretentious or self-aggrandising. Much of what any director does is a subconsious decision, and I think PTA is just unable to articulate it much of the time.
he sees that the interviewer took something from his movie, that he appreciates. like, he got it. PTA is including the interviewers ideas and listening to him, instead of waiting for his turn to talk.

@detriplea Is that because you think he's trying to hit all the notes, like kubrick?

the interviewer goes in and out of making some good points and talking total nonsense overanalyzing things PTA obviously didn't intend
