  • Great video. I am gonna definitely get this tent.

  • REI has some great stuff. Thanks for the video.

  • I just bought this one today on sale for $119, "including" a foot print (score). The Plus was tempting for a teeny tiny less weight, but at $119 and still plenty of space... hard to beat. Being 5 lbs should not be too big a deal since I intend to use it more for bike camping than back packing I would think. The ultra light weight tents with adequate space were exceeding $200, out of budget.

  • yar gona wana roll up your rainfly doors inwards not outwards. This keeps the rain water from building up in the rolled up door! Rrrrrrrrrrr!

  • Nice demo, nice tent. What size is the tent? Thanks for sharing!

  • The REI Half Dome is outstanding for the money. Tried and True in some hostile environments (i.e. Mountains/high winds).

  • where you camping there dicksniff?

  • Hilleberg tents are the best, all others are niggers. just sayin

  • Thank you very much. You showed ALL the pieces to the setup. I did not know about the velcro straps on the inside of the rain fly or how to use the plastic locks and plastic loops. Good to go motorcycle camping.

  • the slide i8s called a dogbone here in pdx

  • Gf and i lived in this tent for a month and a half when we drove cross country last year with no problems

  • Definetly a Car Camping Tent for the weight but its a great tent. Two thumbs up on review!

  • never mind different tent.

  • wish i would have watched this video before spending a half an hour trying to figure out how to connect it all.

  • this tent was home to my wife and I for 2 weeks as we took a camping road trip from Vancouver Island BC, all the way down to my parents house in los angeles. I have also used it many other times while camping in BC as well as in the Sierra. It has done me well in a variety of conditions. My top 3 favorite things about this tent are the duel vestibule/doors, the large overhead storage net inside the tent, and the quick set up.

  • The tent in the video is a GREAT tent. The NEW version has taken a step backwards though. The zipper on the fly no longer goes along the front edge of the vestibule, it goes along the edge closest to the tent. If it's raining and you unzip the fly even 12-18 inches, the opening sits directly over the tent, and the rain leaks (pours) in. This is a major problem.

SO... be careful if you're buying this tent now. The updated model you're buying is inferior to the one in the video.

  • Wow! THANKS:)

  • the fast forward was awsome, in real time it gets boring to watch.

  • I love that tent. I had to return it though.. since im trying to go light. 5 lbs. is kind of heavy. Great vid!

  • you used 2 people to set it up can it be done by 1 person?

  • Nice video.

Well shot, nicely laid out, and I appreciate the fast forward it saves a lot viewing time.

You are a cute couple, may you have many happy years camping together.

  • Nice review on this REI tent!!

  • thank you for this very nice video demonstration :) i sent the link to my sister who will be receiving this tent as a gift :) this video will help her understand all the great features of this great tent. Thanks again!

    will

  • @campywilly If you just ordered a new Half Dome 2 from REI it's probably the newer model they just released after this older model I reviewed has been out for over 2 years. I haven't seen it in person so I'm not sure how it compares. BTW, I'm still using the tent in this video and it's still in like-new condition.

  • do they make a 1 person version of this tent?

  • @JimmyGunXD556 I believe REI's only solo tent is called the Quarter Dome T1. It looks nice and light and has good reviews, but I've never used it. It's lightweight, but it's also $200, which isn't that much if you're going to use it a lot though.

  • @JimmyGunXD556 : The quarterdome t1 solo tent is great! So light at only 2 lbs. I got it two months ago and i love it!

  • @JimmyGunXD556 Also i dont know if your a boy scout or just a hiker but you may want to rent a one man and take it on one of your treks. Mine was fine for an overnighter but after a few nights in it i became kind of stuffy. Have fun

  • Thanks for the demo!

  • nice tent, hot girlfriend.more vids of her setting up tents,lol.5/5

  • Just going by the demo tent in the store, but this item does not look particularly sturdy. Maybe it will hold up to a rain or storm but just picking it up and shaking it around did not make me feel assured that this thing would hold up.

  • It holds up very well. I've had this tent for 5-6 years now and it's held up to every storm I've been though including storms that have destroyed every other tent in the camp ground. Just make sure to use the guy lines and your good to go. The tent is low to the ground and round = wind resistant.

  • @mahadragon I have this tent and it is very sturdy for such a light weight tent. Infact the fact that once it's put together and not staked down and you can litterally pick it up and move it without the poles sliding out of their gromets... is a testiment to how sturdy this tent actually is. If you can pick it up shake the crap out of it then move it and it stays together... than some moderate wind or rain deffinetly isnt a problem =)

  • this tent is excellent for texas heat because of the superior ventilation. The rain fly that has full coverage ensures no rain in your tent. This is one of the best 2 person 3 season tents available!

  • hey man,great little vid.

looks a super-cool tent. makes me wanna be 40 years younger.

and it helps to have a lovely chick with you!

    thanks mate.

  • i got one at the army&navy store for 19.99

    it was on sale.

but damn i saw some in specialty stores that sell'em for like over $500

  • Thank you posting this video. I love my 1/2Dome. I learned some new stuff (upper ventilation) from you. Cheers.

  • I've now been using the REI Half Dome you see in the video for several camping trips including some heavy rain. It's held up beautifully and just get easier to set up every time. To put it away just fold the main section into thirds lengthwise and roll it up with the poles in the middle of the roll. Fold the rainfly up as you wish and just slide it back into the bag with the main section. You can fold the footprint up and stuff it into the bag with the stakes. Very easy.

  • what is the best way of getting it back inside the bag?

  • I'm a loner. I hope I have as easy a time of putting it up as you two did. Does it keep the rain out? Jim

  • I should have included cost in the vide. It's very competitively priced for tents in its class at a retail of $169 and the footprint is $26.50. But if you're an REI member you get at least 5% back as a dividend every year plus they'll take anything back if you ever have a problem with it or just don't like it.

  • how much is this tent
