I actually quite like it! It's very unusual and follows the famous illustrations in many interesting ways. And it's really funny for my taste. And Alice looks like our phonetics teacher :D
DUDE...thats the worse version of the mad tea party scene ive ever seen! They had no emphasis or anything on the words or phrases... and they sped through it like nobody's business. oh dear me XD
What I wanna know is why they always leave out the part where the doormouse tells a story...I've heard the way the doormouse says "treeeacle" in the story and it's very very cute!! That's the part I wanna hear =(
hmmm if you read the original book, there is really no part where they are shown as merry.. in fact they're angry most of the time. i think it's a great adaptation, but since we're all used to the Disney happy version, we can't appreciate it..
The mad hatter looks angry:/ he's suppose to be crazy but happy! And there's no movement, bad acting. I don't like it, definatly the worst rendition of this scene iv ever watched, sorry.
That was the point: certain characters wore masks based on the Tenniel illustrations, and when it was time for them to talk, the actors' faces revealed themselves to the audience.
I never would have guessed their actions to be annoyed or perhaps angry or sad, but in a way I kind of like it. Although I do prefer the traditional happy/insane because that's what I felt when reading it. I also love how the book is followed strictly, but they still thrown in their own adaptations. 5/5
Perhaps, but as Gregory actually changed the idea of "Alice in Wonderland" all together, this is a very good rendition. Gregory actually changed it from whimsical nonsense to a nightmarish psychological interpretation. In that way, it's very likely he's trying to portray the Mad Hatter not as a goofy buffoon, but as a psychologically challenged individual.
They showed him with the mask on first to show what he's supposed to be/look like. Then keeping that in mind, they took it off so you could see the actor's face. They did the same with the White Rabbit and the Cheshire Cat.
the actors for this version good but they don't but they are too fast and serious. I prefer more goofy and humorous. These guys aren't funny at all. Even the book gives a more silly and less serious feel.
she most likely older because this is a "Great Performances" Broadway theater archive. I know that doesn't makes since, but with all the older Broadway to film adaptations it usually is older teens to adults playing the parts
I love watching different variations of this scene. Some are better than others, but they're all highly entertaining--the Hare and the Hatter are my favorite characters. :D
the only quality that saves this from being a complete train-wreck is that it is a version of alice in wonderland... not a good one, but still a version none-the-less.
I found it amusing that the Tea Party Trio are regarded as Alice's friends, yet, they were the RUDEST of all the characters she met in Wonderland and Looking-Glass Land, lol
They all suck. But you know, isolate your attention to just the hatter and youll note hes quite very good indeed. But as for the march hare and alice they have this poor sense of timing in the fact that they fail to have any sort of real pausing between eachothers lines.
this is the worst tea party in alice in wonderland and believe me i have seen loads!!! the mad hatter and the march hare, well, all of them are supposed to be very crazy and wacky and the mad hatter isnt wacky, hes very obnoctous in this one, he should be the mad hatter, not the obnoctious hatter!

this is actually depressing. Very cold, and a angry madhatter. This is depressing to see. The rabbits seems scared and nervous... Martin Short is so much better as the Madhatter
i'm sorry but i really cant help it, i need to comment again! *Why the **** are they reading "No Room" in the beginning?!?!?!?? *Talking too fast!!! *Old Alice??!?? *Bitch Mad Hatter??? *American Accent?!??? *The March Hare is scared to talk! *The Hare and the Dormouse are actully SCARIER than Jason or Freddy! in the end... "That's the stupidest tea party I ever with at, with all my life" Audience: "Same here dear...
probably the WORST alice in wonderland reannactment ive seen in my life.the rabbit started off with a mask and suddenly it was gone. the dialouge seems unnatural. Also isnt the rabbit supposed to be a cunt not the hatter

I so wanted to like this, it started out promising, but that was before they spoken. Bareing in mind this is taken from a British peice of literature, it didn't work at all with the American accents. Alice's accent didn't know if it was British or American, it was all over the place.

Although i like the effort that went into making the set look exactly like John Tenniel's illustrations, I have several issues with the Mad Tea Party:
- Alice is too old. She cannot convincingly convey the innocence and curiousity of a seven -year- old child.
-The actors are speaking too quickly. The scene is rushed.
- The Hatter is not mad in the right sense of the word. He should be insane, not angry.
-The Dormouse doesn't have a "mousy" voice, and Hare seems depressed.
Could be better.

I so wanted to like this, it started out promising, but that was before they spoken. Bareing in mind this is taken from a British peice of literature, it didn't work at all with the American accents. Alice's accent didn't know if it was British or American, it was all over the place.
