my 2k2 q45 did that the other nite when i released the key when cranking early and didnt start her. i was a little worried but i revved her up to like 2k rpms and it went away little by little. started her up tonite and didn't do it anymore. pls check your oil constantly also. these cars burn a little oil naturally.
VTC sprocket. (could also be a valve lifter) but VTC sprocket uses oil pressure to adjust valve timing on intake valve. when they go bad they bleed down and make noise until oil press. gets back up just like a lifter.
thx, the good news is that the noise went away after driving gently for some time, so I'm guessing it was more like a stuck valve lifter. Hopefully it will not come back (the oil is fine)
I have a 2000 infiniti Q45 with 255K miles on it. It is making the same noise. Did you ever figure out what was wrong with it?
