Good guess, I thought it was also until I looked closer. His name is Ted Zeigler, he was a regular on this show, and had parts in several other shows around this era. He passed away in 1999.

Sonny became a Republican and then skied into a tree and died....... not before talking against Gays and Gay marriage.....despit having Chasity (now Chaz) as a child...... he turned on his own child... for politics.......he was on his 4th marriage and wanted to protect true marriage in America.............who was he? Cher loved him and we love Cher. We underderstand..... but he betrayed so many of us.

Ah, the elegant Wilfrid Hyde-White (the British gent in the Sadie Thompson skit)--he was wonderful. He could say a lot of naughty things in that very dry, understated way the Brits do so well. Loved him in a short-lived sitcom called "The Associates".

Outside of the opening monologue where Cherwould usually insult Sonny, this was by far the best part of the show. Sonny was awesome as the piano player and of course Cher was sexy as hell. I always liked how the characters Cher portrayed in the skit would all appear together and spell out each letter of VAMP. This was a classic show from the 70s and I recommend the DVD to anyone who liked or loved Sonny and Cher.

cher is cool, but what not many know is that it was Sonny who was the brains. When they split they each had their own shows, both were short lived.

At his funeral, she made it very clear that she would not be who is not without him. He was the man behind the woman. He never got as much credit as he deserved.
