Natalie always thought she was the only one who had a connection with John and the truth was in this scene and in the one when she in the hospital when she lost her sight, he told her then that she knew him better than anyone! These to connected because they are the same in morals, belief in justice, strong senses of loyalty to friends and family, she was just the female version of John
As an African-American woman, I could easily fall into the "why-isn't-she-with-a-black-man"category but the issue I have with the character of Evangeline is that she was being casted as the "mistress/love interest/girlfriend" but never "the wife". Even though her character may have had an issue with marriage but couldn't she at least gotten a marriage proposal??? If she did, somebody provide the clip of the marriage proposal.
Why didn't the writers/producers allow RJ/Van to have a lasting relationship instead of pairing John/Van so quickly then tearing then apart for Jolie because of ignorant, jealous, insecure, narrowminded people. Now the show is going down the TUBE!!!!
I agree even though John said he loved Van many times she was never allowed to hear it, she got it all the time with Cris but I always felt like Van/Cris had the heat, they just were DULL. Jovan made a simple conversation HOTT and if they were truly able to explore it, Jovan would have never been able to be stopped.
I never watched or understood the Cris/Van pairing. I felt the writers/producers paired them together to heat Jolie and keep issues going between Van/Natalie. Because she could have went back to RJ instead they continue to keep divison between them!!!
What's so hypocritical to me is the fact that OLTL writers are going ALL OUT for the gay marriage storyline, but they're still in the closet regarding interracial relationships. They will not tackle it head on!! As the World Turns already tackled interracial relationships issues head on with the pairing on Jessica and Duncan. They got MARRIED and had a child. And I think that is what ME and REG both wanted for their characters.
Well the writers/producers can look back and blame themselves for OLTL failure and wonder maybe John/Van should have had an opportunity to have a lasting relationship!! Because no matter what they do with John/Natalie it will not work two apples with no favor for one another!!
For me I don't think the writers had a problem with the interracial aspect because Van was paired with John/Cris/and somewhat Todd. I think the real problem and this is just my opinion but with ME/REG they had this powerful chemistry and it was natural and TSJ/REG also had this raw chemistry. And I think writers go with what is easy, they were lazy writers because they didn't want to have to go outside the realm of what they new to make Jovan and even Tangeline work.
ITA, Renee was a challenge with so much talent and OLTL men was falling for her! The writers was willing to do what they had to do to make Jolie be a couple and every pairing for Van ended up in a sour break up, There was a problem some where!!!
Was Nora in an interracial marriage, but the writers/producers soon got rid of the guy quick!!! At this point if OLTL needs to be cancelled nothing is happening right on that show!!!!
I remember reading on Youtube(I can't remember who said it)that the contract issue between OLTL and REG wasn't over money..it was over character issues. The fact that all the other leading ladies were getting married while Vangie was just sleeping with her love interests...i.e. Natalie and Cris. When John went back to Natalie, he was planning on marrying her. That was the issue REG had with her character and ME also got into it with the writers because he wanted John to admit his love for Eva
I read that John/Van was disappointment they were not able to continue their storyline together. John was really upset and after a while in the Jolie relationship his character changed and that relationship begin to dissolve, and it seemed his character began to focus more on being around Van and it was as if Natalie the enabler did not exist. When John/Natalie broke up it had no meaning and no intensity they were two people performing storylines like they are doing now!!!
I didn't watch when he was with Natalie but watching John with Marty (either Marty) and Blair I would have to agree with inlangston. Nope! only Evangeline.
