  • What axe is that?

  • @benenantor Its made by BUCK...

  • Does it have to be pinewood, I've tried once or twice, but it hasn't worked with other types ... yet?

  • @wanderinggibbon Any type of softwood will usualy work...

  • @bushcraftbartons Excellent, thank-you.

  • Tell Josie that she did a good job Mike, I wish I had a nice fire to sit by right now ;-)) Thanks for sharing and Take Care my friend :-))

  • Good to see you again, Josie, love the title, great film:)

  • @ChristLikeness100 Thank you Jen.. :)

  • Wow! Josie you have skills! I find it hard to work with big mittens on!

  • awesome video! well done!

  • Great job Josie. I like to see these kind of fires, easy saves on wood and the crackling is music to my ears . Love the sound of a good fire. Thanks for sharing...

  • Thanks for the info.

  • Looks like you had trouble getting it to a point where you didn't constantly have to fan the flames. Was that because of wet/frozen log or is there something you would do differently to get a better flame?

  • @BonnieBlue2A Yes frozen logs will need more care....stronger oxygen flow.

  • cool video Mike.

  • What kind of axe is that? Looks similar to a Fiskars, but I've never seen a yellow Fiskars.

Did you just drive the blunt ends of the split log into the frozen ground? Or just enough to flatten the ground so they would stand?

  • @rockspydre The axe is from Buck...Yes just drove the blunt ends....went in enough to hold.

  • I like this idea, thanks for sharing

  • cool

  • Great torch, hot fire, warm smile, on a very cold day - well done Josie!

  • Thank you and great video. I'm going to try this out this weekend.

  • Hi Josie, I love this video and your big wave and smile at the end says it all. Once again awesome job, I can only imagine how tricky it must be working with those big mittens on. Certainly can tell how cold it is too by the way your camera man is dancing around... : o)

Hi to you too Mike and thanks again for the enjoyable adventure!

Out of curiousity, (and maybe a neat snowy day vid idea) does Josie pack a few essentials of her own in case you guys get separated on the trail? Thanks again! : )

  • @saradreaming Thank you Sara :) Yes she does have her kits...she has everything pretty much I have and more....you know how ladies can be :)

  • Great job Josie. Thanks for sharing yall.

  • arhh fantasic job Mrs BB, it's a great idea and so well shown by you. I have a crappy vid myself on it. I use this fire all the time. I find them excellent. Ty both.

  • Nice job Josie. I heard you had a bit of winter back east. Winter here so far is mild, right around freezing point mostly. I really do miss the very cold winters which happen in other parts of this huge country. Thanks for sharing et bon anee. Hugh

  • Good job Josie!

  • i can tell by the way you use your axe it is essential in snowy/winter conditions to have one!

  • @vanrooyendavid Absolutely...

  • Thats the best one of these I have seen done ... :)

  • @GremlinWood Thank you...

  • Hey, that's a nice torch, Josie!

The hatchet looks very much like a Fiskars, but I have never seen them in yellow here. Is that another brand?

    Greetings, Tim

  • @steintanz Thanks Tim....Its made by Buck....they`ve been around for a long time.

  • great job ! again nice video !!

    recards vinny.

  • @vinny3678 Thanks....Vinny

  • Whatta lucky guy. Have always wanted to try that. It's obviously a very smart way to solve many problems in the snow.

  • Very noice.

  • Way to Josie! Great job and no words thats the perfect explanation. JJD

  • Great job! I carry some bailing/muffler wire in my pack to lash the bottom together. Sometimes they just don't want to stay together on their own, even after pounding them into the ground.

  • Looks good to me,fun too.

  • Excellent job Josie!

In this cold, a fire and a hot cup of tea is just right. :-)

Is this pine needle tea? Looks almost like this.

Another great video of you two.

Yes, even the camera man is praised. :-D

    LG Tito

  • @Naturliebe Thanks Tito....Balsam fir :)

  • Excellent.

  • brilliant. may have to try and have ago my self if i can find some pine. but other than that great video thumbs up to Josie for the camera work and to you Mike for the axe work and candle making

  • Hello Mike and Josie, thank you so much for showing this fine and good video again! Wonderful work, I will never forget! God bless. Sepp

  • @Waldhandwerk That was for your 500 subs :) Appreciate your friendship Sepp...Danke

  • Respect Mrs. Bushcraftbartons!

Why do Canadians call that a "candle"? Are you more ironic in Canada or is everything there massively oversized?

That's another task that would be nearly impossible without an axe, so you are slowly convincing me, that axes are not that bad...

One more shout out to Josie: Well done!!!

(btw my girlfriend (she's pinay) wants to know where you originated from - you are obviously asian-american - but at least one of your parents / grandparents came from where?)

  • @vitopetre She is pinay as well. She is from Manila. Her parents are from there to. She is pure Pinay been in Canada for 10 years now.

  • Nice video Josie!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great job Josie... I remember when you did this for Sepp's contest,it was great to see it this morning,i have been thinking of doing a swedish candle myself, lots o fun!!! thanks for showing.

    Greg

  • Skvěle nafilmované video. Šikovnou máš Squaw - mladou dívku. Díky příteli moc se mi oba líbíte.

  • mike, your secret is out! josie taught you about bushcraft. good job, josie!

  • @ANXIETOR :)

  • Oh yeah I forgot to mention your wife's beanie hat is Totally Awesome, I want one!

  • Awesome! I wish we had birch bark in California, The only birch tree we have i believe is water birch. And can you send some snow to the west coast we need it bad, already talking about fire hazards here in Calif...awful. Thanks for the vid! -Kurtis

  • Josie, nice video, my son was here an really enjoyed also!

  • Hey i remember this video :) It was for the competition that Waldhandwerk did, right ?

  • @AjiraKimberly Good memory...

  • Great! How long did it last? Was it self sustained or did you have to add more material to keep it going?

  • @xl72011 Thanks...its hard to say bro how long it will last. This one lasted a good 40 min. Depending on the size of the log and what type of wood (hard/soft) it could last longer or shorter. Yes it will sustain itself if its properly done. But there is nothing wrong in adding material if you need to.

  • Now that's neat! Thanks for the vid :)

  • great :)
