@laserthebeam1 These songs are completly different.Bird of Prey has one of the most insane vocals used in rock/metal history. If you're so incompetent and musically ignorant to understand this, dont bother commenting.

Hey we are FASTRACK a rocknroll band from Melbourne. We are supporting Uriah Heep when they tour Australia next month so if you have a spare 5 minutes please watch our single "Steal the Show" and let us know what you think. We just want to be heard, we think we have something to offer when it comes to R'n'R
Interesting early song. Sounds like they were trying to keep a link to the British blues rock movement going. It should have been on the US version of their debut LP. Bird Of Prey was included instead; an alternate(I think inferior)version of the track which appeared on the English release of SALISBURY.
This is good, no doubt. But I am glad Heep continued their heavy direction after this. I've got just about all the Heep (American version) albums. I have no blues albums -- except early Tull, and they moved on in a big way too.
Like Led Zeppelin that played several blues tunes on their debut album, Uriah Heep also closed their excellent and one of their best albuns with this great blues. Here Ken and David highlights their talents on organ and vocals. The band never recovered from David's death and after Ken's departure I stopped buying and listening to their albuns. It would be better if Mick Box decided not to continue calling his band Uriah Heep in respect to his old more talented music partners
This song apparently was replaced with "Birds Of Prey" on the US release of their first album, so I hadn't heard this before. Nice bluesy tune, but I'd have to say "Birds Of Prey" is definitely better.
There is no comparison between this song (a great blues tune) with Birds of Prey. It was very stupid from US producers to remove this song from their first album. Listen to it a few more times and you realize what you have lost all these years.
When I bought this album I did not understand the blues and I did not like this song. With the years I discovered the power of the blues and I started to play the whole album. The more I hear this song the more I like it, specially the part of Ken's organ solo. Bird of Prey was released in Brazil on the Salisbury album and I consider it the 2nd best song of the album being "The Park" the number one. As I said before it is no possible to compare Lucy Blues with Bird of Prey or any other Heep song
Well, I love the Blues & always have, & this is a very good song. But, I just think "Bird Of Prey" stands as one of Heep's signature tunes, you know what I mean?
I agree with you. Bird of Prey contains several musical elements that characterized the Heep sound: high tuned multiple vocals, heavy guitars and the hammond organ. I consider though "Tears in my Eyes" as their number one even though on this one there is almost no hammond organ. Ken was a genius. He included a slide guitar played by him on top of Mick Box heavy guitar making this song one of their most powerful ones. There is a video of this song from a show in Japan in 1973. Take a look !
that cover reminds me similarly of an acid trip I had on a rainy night; longing to have the sun come out... one of the most painful of times in the head.
@myvolvocar This passage is from The Companions of Jehu--page 396--"You are ninnies! I have cheated all the time we've been playing, and you never found out. Those who lost can take their money back." Born and bred in the Catholic faith, Bonaparte had no preference for any dogma. When he re-established divine worship it was done as a political act, not as a religous one.
Yea, that's David's face on the cover. The band actually thought later that it was a little bit morbid after he died in 1985. This was the old cover, my cd has the centipede on it. Strangely, I had to copy it, because the disc has some microscopic organisms attached to it; I keep my discs clean and this never happened on any other disk. Uriah Heep has been my favorite band, since I first found Look At Yourself in my my dad's 8-track collection in 1989. Shadows of Grief was one of the best songs.
David Byron(lives on) was great at everything he sang. He performs the blues well, best not forget the other members of the band, without Byron they would not have been so popular.
Just beautifully executed blues from an unlikely band. One of my all time favoutites and one reason why I fell in love with the blues and remain so today. So good to hear this again.... thanks for posting it! Cheers.

I love Uriah Heep but this reminds me of a Mississippi church revival.I'm not a blues fan so sorry to the fan's just isn't the Uriah I like.

it's still got that bluesy touch nowadays, although it's been about 30 to40 years old.
it's a pity that uriah heep recorded only one of a kind of this great bluesy song.
