  • I'm so glad that there are intelligent Gail " trashers ". For a woman to bury Frank in an unmarked grave, then turn around , and tell Franks' mother Rose Marie , that she buried Frank 2 days before she told anyone he was dead, Gail showed no respect to the " real " Zappa family. Gail is a cunt , a selfish bitch , and if Frank were alive , he's be kicking the shit out of her for her brainless manoeuvers.

  • @dollhaus1 In Frank's own words he "did not want to be remembered". Gail probably knew that Frank's mother would have objected to this, so she did as her husband wished and told her afterward. Gail is tough but I think terms the likes of 'cunt' and 'selfish' are uncalled for. I think to say things like 'Frank would be kicking the shit out of her' is about as brainless as you can get.

  • @horowizard

If Gail "did as her husband wished" she would have got out of the industry after the Rykodisk distribution deal like Frank asked her to.

I have never questioned Gail's love for Frank. It takes a lot of love to deal with a workaholic driven to create above all else, including family, sometimes.

This doesn't negate the awful things that the ZFT are doing to the fans, now.

I did not make Gail's husband the man that he was I only consumed the product that he made.

  • @thegirl44 I don't know anything about Frank asking her to get out of the industry. I do know that part of the Ryko deal stipulated that there would be a hold on any new material for a period of time so there wouldn't be competition in the marketplace.

  • @horowizard

Franks' asking her to get out of the industry is well documented you just have to google it.

That's the official story about the Ryko deal from ZFT this hour and minute? Okay, whatever.

  • I made an original Video to "The Muffin Man" and warner had it taken down.

  • WOW! Trippy video, Flowerpunkchip! Very well done; great continuity; and a good match with the music since you were disallowed from using Frank's (Booo). I was particularly amused with the dancing boys at 4:28! And, man-o-man, that Kaleidoscope image of Frank at about 7:00 at the end - toooo much! The two folks at the very end comprised a perfect ending - the female resembles me! I have been a Frank Zappa devotee since the 1960's.

Flowerpunkchip, I LOVE THIS VIDEO YOU DID!

  • @mocthezuma

Those are the old excuses from 10 years ago. The new excuse is that they're crying about not having the money to get it done. It's on the website, feel free to look it up.

Maybe Gail should stop paying her lawyer's kid's college educations and stroking her eldest son's vanity? She'd have the money to do it then.

  • @toneshards

I'm waiting for a C&D letter but probably won't get one because I think that the small part of Gail that's still human wouldn't litigate all over family.

I want one of those cocksuckers so fucking bad, though.

Does it come on Goldenrod paper?

PLEASE tell me that it comes on Goldenrod paper....or Canary.

  • From Frank Zappa's Last interview with NBC

Interviewer: How do you want to be remembered?

    Frank: It's not important.

Gail's sure spending a shit load of money on something that the man who made the money wasn't overly fucking concerned about.

Call me, Aunt Gail, you know how to get a hold of me. I'll find you something productive to do in the industry or another rock star that you can play wife to. Your current hobby is unhealthy, has no merit and only serves to hurt yourself and others.

  • @thegirl44 FRANK WAS THE FIRST ONE TO SAY THAT BEING REMEMBERED ISN'T IMPORTANT. I THINK GAIL WAS ECHOING THAT SENTIMENT, THOUGH SHE COULD HAVE ADDED A FEW MORE LINES IN THE INTERVIEW. I HAVE SEEN GAIL IN INTERVIEWS AND SHE IS NOT AS ELOQUENT AS FRANK. SHE PROBABLY CAN'T PLAY THE GUITAR AS WELL AS HE COULD EITHER.

  • @plasticjesus108

If Gail was echoing that sentiment she wouldn't have spent a decade trying to censor the internet to her idea of how the public should perceive her husband.

  • Comment removed

  • @thegirl44- I guess you are having trouble writing your own music. Maybe you should start a Barry Manilow cover band . He doesn't have a pesky widow guarding his leagacy and would probably appreciate you mangling his music. May your shit come to life and kiss you.

Paying union dues does not give you the right to use other people's work without permission.

  • @zcosmos9

Perhaps you're too thick to realize this but if it weren't for other musicians playing FZ's music he wouldn't have a catalog? Zappa's bands were a dictatorship:World class musicians played what and how he told them to.

Are Ike Willis, Steve Vai, Adrian Belew, George Duke, Napeleon Murphy Brock, Tommy Mars et al "intellectual vampires?"

Gails speaking engagements can't end soon enough. Then you college kids can start looking at the facts objectively instead of parroting her bullshit.

  • Comment removed

  • @zcosmos9

    Part 2

Do you think that Frank got the okay from, or sent a cut of the profits to, The Beatles or Led Zep when he covered their songs live? HE DIDN'T HAVE TO as a due paying member of the musician's union.

Do you think his boys got the permission of everyone in their "Peavey Medley" farce? THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO as card carrying union members.

Learn the law before you debate. Your childish insults don't qualify as an argument and only serve to make you look as ignorant as Zappa's widow.

  • To all you treacherous miscreants who are crying foul over the copyright issues involved with using Frank Zappa's music (and visage); WHY DON'T YOU WRITE SOME OF YOUR OWN MUSIC? ...fucking intellectual vampires...

  • @zcosmos9

Maybe Gail should make her own music and stop taking the anger that she has for her husband for only marrying her because she was knocked up and constantly fucking around on her out on his fans with C&D letters and lawsuits that she loses?

I pay my union dues. Gail Zappa, as the widow of a musician who was in good standing with the union gets returns from my dues. As a musician in good standing with that same union I have the right to pay homage to FZ whether Gail likes it or not.

  • As a FZ fan almost my hole life. I thank frank for this one fact . Thank you Frank for showing me its ok to not only have free mind but to reinforce the thought that was there before my expression is my freedom.../clap

  • why dont you just take the whole thing down instead of tricking Franks fans into clicking?

  • Like it or not it is Gail's prerogative as to how she wants to control where and how Frank's music appears, not yours. End of story. It is perfectly normal to understand. She knows more about it than you ever will so stop whining and complaining about how you think it is unfair, that your efforts at being a video artist were in vain or whatever.

  • @horowizard

If she knows more about it than we do why has she paid so much out to lawyers to write cease and desist letters and why has she lost every case that has gone to court? I may not be that bright but I don't give money, not to mention money that I didn't even fucking earn, to lawyers hand over fist to pursue cases that anyone with even a minute understanding of torte law knows aren't going to win in a courtroom.

She didn't even know that she doesn't hold copyright on the PMRC hearings

  • Comment removed

  • @thegirl44 I don't know why or even if she has done this. She probably has to deal with so many legal issues from week to week that she may well have lawyers on constant retainer. The fact remains that the rights to the music are owned by the family and for whatever reasons she chooses, she will allow or deny permissions to have it performed. As far as the PMRC hearings go, I don't believe she is that ignorant.

  • @horowizard

She's had videos of the PMRC hearings pulled from Youtube by claiming copyright, why she thought she held it I can't say?

As for the rest of your comment it in no way supports your original statement: That she knows more about copyright than the rest of us. Losing the cases that she has taken as far as court shows that she knows no more than what her money hungry lawyers tell her and this is likely why she oversteps her legitimate copyright constantly...and that makes her ignorant.

  • @thegirl44 I don't know. Was the Zappa name attached to the video in some way or mentioned in the title?

I understand it was she that ran the business end of things, so maybe you ought to rethink that claim of her ignorance. She's no idiot and I'm sure everything she does is for a reason. As far as her lawyers being money hungry goes, I hate 'em just as much as anyone, but you are not going to get thorough representation using Legal Aid.

  • @horowizard

It doesn't matter if Frank's name was attached to the video. That's what Gail and those faithful to her don't seem to understand: Just because Frank may be a part of something that doesn't mean that she owns it.

By chance did you attend one of Gail's speaking engagements recently?

Did you know that Frank sold his published catalog before his death so that Gail wouldn't have to deal with the industry?

You keep repeating that she's not ignorant or an idiot but offer nothing as proof.

  • @horowizard There are some excellent lawyers that do legal aid. They just choose to use their power for good and not evil. Know before you spew.

  • @whosyerkitty Yeah, there are excellent Legal Aid lawyers, but if you need to have somebody get something important done in a timely manner, you pay them.

  • Reasons why ZFT is totally right to "censor" stuff here:

The Vault costs money, zappa.com costs money, events cost money, and so forth.

Creating videos that have different imagery than what was originally included with the music can have a depreciative effect on the integrity of the work.

The quality of the audio and video of FZ's stuff on here is rather low. Bootlegs of bootlegs. For that reason, I think many videos have been left alone.

Anyway, if you really want to enjoy FZ's stuff, buy it.

  • @mountaindewzilla

Gail Zappa constantly oversteps her copyright.

She made a copyright claim on the PMRC hearings that the American taxpayers paid for.

She has serious issues and I for one am not going to pay for her to harass musicians who have paid their union dues that allow them to play FZ's music.

  • @thegirl44

I don't know what Gail does, and I don't know anything about her character.

I know that I don't like hearing shitty covers, and I don't like wading through low quality duplicates of what is already available.

I want to hear and see more of FZ's stuff.

Someone has to pay to keep what remains of FZ's work in usable condition, and someone has to pay to make scores available. That's where the FZ fan comes in.

    Unions don't supersede copyright.

  • @mountaindewzilla

    "Unions don't supersede copyright"

No one here has implied that they do because one has jack shit to do with the other

"I don't know what Gail does and I don't know anything about her character."

You obviously don't, if you did you would know that the money that you spend on ZFT approved product goes to lawyers and promoting Dweezil's cover band and not to putting out new Zappa material.

You really should familiarize yourself with the topics that you debate.

  • @thegirl44

Union dues don't have jack shit to do with your rights. You were saying that you have a right to pay homage because of your union membership. I assumed that you meant that you have the right to upload FZ's recordings, because that is what the poster of this video has done.

ZFT _has_ released "new" stuff. Most recently "Feeding the Monkies At Ma Maison" iirc.

Look, my ideal situation would be the ZFT funding ZPZ, and releasing stuff from the vault.

    This isn't a debate.

  • @mountaindewzilla

    You assumed wrong.

And you're right, this isn't a debate: By law any union paying musician has the right to cover whatever the fuck they want live making Gail's cease and desist letters to dues paying musicians harassment, and she's using your money to carry out this harassment.

My ideal situation would be the ZFT petitioning to get the laws changed if they don't like them instead of harassing people who are in full compliance with the current ones.

  • FREE ZAPPA!! Gail is wrong. Frank would've told her that.

  • I agree with the Zappa Family Trust on this one. The 'fan' videos are great ,but what if a Zappa compsiton was used as a score for a objectionable video(i.e. an execution, animal torture, kiddie porn , ect.) Like it or not people, Gail controls the music now and I think she is guarding his legacy. Keep up the good work Gail, and thanks for protecting my hero.

  • @zcosmos9 That's like saying people ought not have screw drivers because they'll rob gas stations. Be free and let free. I'm sure that the over whelming majority of Zappa fans, and music fans in general, plan to be creative and further decent work. As much as humans want to be, we are not G-d.

  • @zcosmos9

Gail oversteps her copyright at every turn. She does not hold the copyright on: The PMRC hearings that taxpayer dollars funded, talk shows that her husband was a guest on, programs that had Frank's go ahead to use his music or a video as a bumper yet she's made copyright claims against all of the above and more.

She has the right to claim the copyrights that she holds, she does not have the right to censor the internet by making copyright claims on things that don't belong to her.

  • Who is the Gail police indeed. :(

  • If the Zappa family is not happy with the Youtube stuff, then they should release more new material more often. I'd love to have the full DVD's of the concerts that are shown on here. They'd make a fortune off of that alone. Who wouldn't want to see Zappa/Beefheart/Mothers. I'm sure he must have had some of that tour videoed.

  • I made a cheesy little claymation video to "Let's Make the Water Turn Black" a few years ago. I'll be damned if that insignificant little tribute to the maestro wasn't taken down as well.

  • I kinda think Frank would say "Let the world have it, money means nothing up here in Heaven, I made it for the world to just dig as deeply as they wish..." R.I.P. Brother In Music.

(.. or else he would be displeased with the fact it is being held for ransom, so to speak... life is so short... oops the music just stopped got to go.) Peace

  • Oh, grow up everyone! Thinking oneself a hero by calling the copyright owner a censor for preventing your stealing what--for better or worse--the system we have here gives them legal rights to is pathetic. Or b/c the ENTIRE internet can't be safeguarded from babies who simply want what they want irrespective of others' property rights & thus should'nt bother with yTube posts is similarly sub-mental! Wait 'til someone takes what YOU'VE paid for & we'll see how quickly you are 2 say "oh, well."

  • @dantean

Gail Zappa took the PMRC Hearings that my tax dollars paid for by claiming that she had the copyright on them when she didn't.

Is that what you're talking about?

  • What you all forget to realize are the specific words of Frank "I don't care about being remembered." He made art for the sake of getting his point out and providing the music that we didn't have. If you want to carry on his message then write your own stuff! Break out of the mold, speak your mind, and don't give a shit if others hate you for it. Forget about Frank's work being used today, it's not YOURS. Wouldn't you be pissed if the whole world voted on what should happen to your art???

  • I do agree with most of you. It would be great if we can have access to more Zappa's work. My self I have most of his work on LP records but would be nice to see videos as well.

How controversial watching some his interview about censorship. Common Gail let Frank's legacy be available to all of us.

    Thank you

    FZ's big fan

  • I thought censors were more liberal now a days?! But Zappas lyrics are quite "different". Folks, Just download Franks stuff. I understand YouTube here. There are alot of youngsters on youtube. And Franks risque lyrics will definitely make an impression on the young folks. You have to have some control here.

  • Gail Zappa does not accurately reflect the first ammendment potential of Frank Zappa's musical legacy. Is it about art or money, control or inspiration, stinginess or generosity?

Would Frank want his work to inspire other generations? Yes! Would he want his widow to administer his art like Tipper Gore? Me thinks not!

  • @LvnAction Sadly, Frank didn't care if it inspired anybody. He was speaking his mind and if you wanted to listen then you could. I think what he would want is others to write with the same feelings in mind instead of get caught up saying the same exact thing as he did (aka covering his music.) As for the illegal spread of it online, well Frank died before the internet became popular so who's to say what he would have allowed? Gail does as much as she can with what Frank taught her.

  • Sure, I may sound like a hypocrite (having Alice Cooper videos to promote sales) but I'm given permission by Eagle Rock in some cases and other times the copyright is lost. A lot of artist's don't care enough to block all of the online distribution but Frank wasn't about making money. He cared about making money to make more music, he's gone now, why do continue to promote it? His family is fine on their own.

  • My last post, please notice that Gail has not blocked ALL of the YouTube videos. How much do you want? You can't upload his whole life online. There is enough information to promote him already online. If you want to promote him then promote those videos!!!

  • @LuneyTune72 So is it Gail blocking the videos?

That would disappoint me. Money can't be that tight...

    FFS...

  • @LvnAction ...Thank you for writing my very thoughts !

  • Continuing invasio of privacy and being ALLOWED to watch and hear certain material, made for everybody to see and hear, is a major violation of peoples rights as human beings.

NOBOBY has the power and authority to tell the general public what and what they should not enjoy or enquire about.

Hitler's regime was similar in a different way..iron fisted control of any persons seeking alternative entertainment, different from what 'the norm' desired in musical junk and not fit to be called music

  • Seriously if the Zappa family trust is gonna work so hard to police the internet, they could at least put more Zappa on iTunes or even better, put up some videos dammit.

For Zappa's sake let us have our national Treasurer!

  • @DimensionsofChange You are a fan of his music, you don't control it or possibly don't understand the man's entire viewpoint. Who is to say what happens to the artist's work after death? Nobody. Gail does what she can with her responsibilities. If you truly are a fan of the family then you would respect their decisions. There is one thing I'm sure of and that's that Frank gave specific instructions of what was to become of his creations, and they are following the rules.

  • @LuneyTune72 yeah but I really doubt Frank foresaw the rise of the internet or for that matter youtube. Furthermore if it wasn't for this site and wikipedia, I would have never heard of Zappa, so I think it would be in everyone's interest if Zappa's music was easier to find

  • @DimensionsofChange Yet again, Frank didn't care about being remembered. The only person one can blame for not receiving information as simple as knowing who an artist was is his/herself. It doesn't matter whether or not YouTube/Google/Wikipedia existed you could go to a library. It's up to you to get off your ass and learn. Frank always said, "If you want to get laid go to college, but if you want an education go to a library."

  • @LuneyTune72 I agree with most you say however, some of us just do not have access to a library. Since I got my first computer in 95 I HAVE gotten off my ass and have learned a great deal cause of it. My education has expanded way more from the internet than anything I have ever learned in school.

  • @DimensionsofChange ..........Its so nice to read other people share my exact thoughts..........Maybe we'll have to wait till Gail passes and let the cool offspring release the stuff ?

  • Nice video work flowerpunkchip

"Considering I still get off on stuff that I purchased eons ago, I figure I owe them. I certainly have had countless hours, days, weeks, years of pleasure listening to Frank's music - more enjoyment than I could ever get anywhere else for the investment I made."

    well said Flowerpunkchip..

the replacement music is pretty cool too.. well played m8

  • Strange how inconsequent they are about removing music? Must not be YT who takes first action. Must be a complaint for two first.

  • @dniez1 it's never youtube, it's fat record executives (and Gail Zappa) who are fucking this all up for everyone

  • how ironic!

  • in reply to frankzappy[below]... how dare you 'clueless'. your fucking clueless mate ,,,how did people hear franks music before the internet ???,you fu*king dork

  • Gail is well intentioned, but clueless. If people don't hear Zappa music on the Internet, where will they hear it? I'm in NY and listen to the "rock" radio all the time. I heard "Joe's Garage" a month ago and never heard Packard Goose or Watermelon in Easter Hay, not once, not ever.

  • Thank you for your efforts. A fan since 1965. It wouldn't be right to see such a talent fall even further from the public eye. A lot of people perceive him and the Mothers as almost, a novelty group. That is kind of how he was marketed, for lack of a better term. As an example, Dr. Demento was one of the only people who played him with the excetion of the mid to late sixties underground stations.

  • if gail needs more dough....

why not try RELEASING some rare stuff??

    evrybody wins.

the only reason i download is because the material is NOT AVAILABLE LEGALLY!

i'd be happy to pay retail,,,, if i could get source recordings fro the archives!!!!!

  • Wouldn't the fair use laws let you republish this? You should try it again, and then put something about the fair use law in there. If a video is for educational purposes, or is not making money, then you should have the right to use the images and sounds. Even if you compiled it yourself. I would research fair use, and put a blurb about it below your video and that will get you off of the hook I think. Maybe.

  • get a life

mickel more is not FZ and gorge bush is not a presidet any more

  • I tried so get permission from Gail to do a cover song, and was actually in communication with her about it. I sent her my cover, and told her that I would not release it without her permission and I never got a response back. So I never released it. People need to get over their feelings of entitlement. People might say, "You cannot own Frank", but the reality is "she can" and "she does". She has the right to shut you down. Sad but true. I am sorry it happened. Move on.

  • I am somewhat sympathetic to your cause and somewhat not. The family does not have Frank around to write any more new material and whenever someone does a cover song, or puts out another viral video, or somehow uses his name and puts it on something, and she never ends up seeing another red cent, then maybe she should have something to say about it. Gail is not filthy rich, so she is trying to survive and be protective of something that was dear to her. Cut her some slack.

  • @thomasmundahl One thing i think your worng about Gail is filthy rich,Frank made millons,Theres a Zappa famley trust whitch means they all get a steady cash flow every year.

  • @loislombardo Pretty much from what I have understood, there hasn't been any real disposable income in the family until after his passing, because all of the money went back into the business, the record company, and more touring. Now that he's not around to generate real revenue, his record sales have dropped bad, so there must be real panic about that trust fund. It is too bad that she doesn't realize the connection between fan videos and getting "more fans" however. More fans, more revenue.

  • @thomasmundahl Frank was a very smart man,His son Dweezil is a smart dud,I dont think thell ever be broke,Im not rich and never broke i dont have to work ether,But i dont live in North Holleywood,You got to be rich to live ther.

  • @loislombardo - really, how can people be so stupid.

Zappa is still making money - he's famous all over the world.

New people/fans are constantly finding him and buying his music.

True, most artists are losing mega cash from downloading, but they are still fucking loaded and should shut the fuck up about it. If I made millions and was famous, I really wouldn't care if people downloaded my stuff for free. I'll still buy stuff from people I really like, but I do download too.

  • @thomasmundahl Hell she lives in North Holleywood Calf.

  • what the hell is wrong with these people,, and especially Gail,, i mean damn, Frank, i always turn younger ppl on to ur music....RIP my friend.

  • Charles Bukowski on the cover of "Let's Drink Some Beer and Hear FRank Zappa".... 1:52

  • Its a really sad situation. I have the, probably mistaken, impression that FZ was seldom sad. Trying to impose a capitalist logic onto Internet (or, indeed, onto von Nemann machines) is doomed to failure. So be happy! (FZ would have written an excellent parody of that song and, indeed on this comment). Viva el socialismo del siglo 21, o de cuando sea!

  • @pepediaz69 viva el socialismo ahora y siempre viva zappa!

  • @pepediaz69 Viva el socialismo siempre!

  • Excelent video composition, yes any artist should be paid, may be we should be able to hear it or see it once and be directeted to the site where you can buy it.Youtube is a great way to share what you believe in and what you are, but may be we abuse that right too.Keep any artist afloat by buying Art....(you know what I mean) Share the info not the content.

  • Gail needs to put out the Roxy DVD and a 1988 Barcelona live DVD. She's too busy worrying about who to sue than do something that could make her a few bucks and thrill the fans at the same time.

  • I'm happy that there are some good videos of Frank and that it's still possible to buy his recordings. There are many other opportunities to see Frank Zappa in a different light and it's too bad we can't be privy to them. Thankfully his music has not been commercialized to the point that we here it played over television adds for new cars or God forbid, soap.

Frank Zappa was a genius of monumental proportions and we miss him.

  • sux youtube took my disco boy right off before i could even laugh at it.:O(

  • If the Music is the best.... Music absolutely Free For All...!!! The Music is culture not merchandising...!!!

  • FZ would not have been able to record half of what he did if he didn't tightly control access to his music. People need to get paid for what they do, artists included. What if you boss so admired your work he felt you owed it to the world to provide it without compensation?

  • @dartdata

I have no objection to the family Zappa making money off the the work that Frank killed himself to create.

I take exception to them claiming copyright on that which they do not own and taking people to court over it, knowing that they will lose, in order to bleed the fans out of paying their respects.

  • a lovely tribute to a brilliant human. I am delighted that Frank's music and his opinions of our "evolution" are still accessible despite the efforts of the "machine" he also was very vocal about.. He will be recognized... and always loved.

  • give it up and buy the cds. they're no more expensive than a dinner out somewhere, or go to the LIBrary and rip it at home. why can't you rip a movie but a cd is ok? I've been wondering. you wanna share zappa with the world: Wear a T-shirt. idiots

  • a t-shirt does not do justice to the ear

"inca roads" blasting out of your car stereo with the windows rolled down does!

  • The sad fact is that greed has stymied inumerable fans from hearing and apreciating Frank's great work with his many incarnations of the band. Record sales are important, needless to say, but posterity and an adoring public are not served by petty profiteering or greedy manipulation of resources. nuf sed

  • Certainly Fanks legacy is greater than some petty assertions of unfair enrichment and copyright infringement, {areas of contention only after Frank passed and money and control became prime considerations for a select few}.

  • we're only in it for the money

  • best comment ever.

  • Further more I applaude you on your outlook and way your words preak on the positive. I belive if more had your attidue like and the world would be a better place. I can;t help but think Frank is smileing every time someone reads your words. I'll follow you arround here and would like to think perhaps someday have conversation. i run on first impressions, this one tells me we probably have allot of comon ground... Well done my brother. peace and prosperity to you.

  • flowerpunkchip:i appreciate your views and agree 100% with your logic and philosify on these matters.

  • Philosophy, not philosify.

  • yeh warner brothers heavy care about zappa fans.. do they fuck. don't talk shit.

  • I don't care about Warner Bros. Frank sued them and won the rights to his own master tapes so it's not an issue.

But I don't understand how people claim that everything in the Zappa vaults should be released for everyone. Only to please a handful of fans who would be dedicated enough to even care.

A lot of things were probably ditched from recording the various albums, and if those things didn't make the albums they shouldn't be released.

  • cremate all the Warner Brothers

  • Agreed, A Greed, but it isn't Gail. It's WARNER MUSIC GROUP who is the real culprit behind our vids being silenced. You may want to investigate this further and issue an apology. Also, challenge your muted vids with the Copyright Loyalty Oath form.

  • @plasticjesus108

No, it isn't WMG making the copyright claims. Frank bought his catalog back from Warners years ago. It's the greedy, greedy ZFT.

    Gail gotta eat...a lot.

  • @thegirl44 YES, HE BOUGHT BACK THE RIGHTS FROM WMG IN THE 80'S OR SO. HOWEVER, SHORTLY BEFORE HE DIED HE SOLD THEM TO RYCODISK, A WMG SUBSIDIARY. DON'T WANT TO ARGUE HERE, BUT IF YOU DO YOUR HOMEWORK NEXT TIME THERE WILL BE LESS CHAOS.

  • @plasticjesus108

He cut a distribution deal with Ryko for the catalog he didn't sell them the rights.

ZFT own the rights to everything Frank.

  • 5 stars for the text at the start

  • Franks kids are going to hold on to their dads music for so long, that anyone alive every interested in buying it would be long dead. Thank God (sorry fo using god Frank) that I had the pleasure of listening to him as a teenager in the 70's. And yes, thanks to Frank Zappa. I make darn fracking sure my kids hear him every chance we can. Also 100.2 the sound in LA wil play zappa. How do I know, because I heard wih my own ears. P.S. my wifewho is this and culdn't sop listenlng.

  • To the ZFT, the longer you keep the "vault" stuff to yourselves, the moldier it will become. Casual music listeners, esp the younger ones, aren't going to "discover" Frank's music at a later date. IOW, it's not going to come back and become a phenomenen. Lastly, I would think the ZFT would be grateful to the fans who fed their family and put millions of dollars in their bank account. I highly doubt the kids would have the life and celebrity they do, without me buying their dad's records.

  • Couldn't agree more. Gail, you suk!

  • The ZFT did it to me too.

    I took my vid down.

  • Gail needs a good enema to help with her anal-retentitive personality problem. Go get a job, bitch.

  • most people on this page havnt a clue what they are talking about....il leave y'all to it ..

go spend all your time writing music or producing any art...[art you lot ha],,then give it away ,why dont you ,, most of you fuckwits couldnt produce a thought...

  • @STEVEFINNERTY Why didn't Frank leave instructions about the release of his stuff?

  • @felixq78

Because the entertainment industry is a corrupt cunt of a whore master and Frank didn't want his loved ones to have to have anything to do with it. The distribution deal with Rykodisk was hammered out before Frank died for the existing distributed music. I really believe that Frank intended for that to be the end of it. It was a good, sound financial deal that would have kept his loved ones very comfortable.

ZFT should have left well enough alone, I guess.

  • theab1963 im sure they dont want your dollars , your a smuk, your everything im not ,,kiss it .

  • your oppinion sucks chodes stevey

  • I think Frank would have held as tight a rein on his music...just as Gail is doing.

...he was the first artist (that i know of) to have warnings on his CD about sampling his music.

i mean, this free internet stuff can kill a artists bottom line...and Frank was a businessman....so

in fact...i think Frank would have been even more restrictive had he lived....remember the battles with MGM and Warner's about unapproved releases?

ease up on Gail and FZT

  • I think zappa is dead so he doesn't need any money.

all his archive stuff should be released for fans to digest.

free internet is more likely to keep zappa alive seeing as he is dead.

I hate gail for actively pissing on my day when a vid i love which i cannot purchase anywhere has been taken down again. I love Zappa, i think gail and dweezil can go fuxk themselves.

but you're right, zappa would probably be a dick about it too

  • @dazamaru It's his music and now they represent him so who the fuck are we do demand it. Some of you dicks sound like the hippy wankers at the Isle of Wight who knocked down fences demanding free access to the music claiming that the musicians had no right to expect payment for access to it, accusing them of capitalist greed, Remember Joni Mitchell's speech telling them to fuck off?

Whether they need the cash is beside the point, it's their music and they can do as they please.

  • @felixq78 Hey numbnuts....you really need a lesson in reading comprehension....you need to read my post again. You just repeated the basics of my whole arguement....its' Gail and ZFT' music. Zappa left it to them and that's that.

    Now dont you look foolish.

  • This is great.

  • Zappa family sucks. And sometimes they really release SHIT (Joe's something with the rehearsal of the Petite Wazoo by instance !) I will not spend one more dollar for these poor people....

  • also the ZFT should do what they like to preserve the name and music of frank zappa,

  • so we can't even hear it? nice one.. if i buy a zappa record second hand the zappas dont get a penny, is that wrong too?,, i think they are dicks

  • i love franks music,,,,,,all of it ,,

  • The Dweeze is playing my town this week. I feel like getting a ticket so I can throw a rotten egg at him.

  • Don't. It's not him filing the copyright claims.

  • But isn't he part of the problem?

  • No? Dweezil probably could care less about his music being online. It's Warner muting these clips, probably not the Zappa family.

  • I'm not so worried about clips being muted. What really rips my knitting is the way the trust have gone about their business.

  • Their business, how? Relating to youtube?

  • I don't know about YT. I'm talking about enforcing the crazy copyright of a mustache; taking anyone to court who dares to play Frank's music without the say so of the trust; releasing below par remixes; not getting the music into shops and onto download services; holding onto the best stuff in the archive; and so on. They have f**ked it up to the point where it's almost impossible to find Frank's music anywhere. They are killing his legacy.

  • Well, I'm not aware of that.

  • You are now.

  • @youvebeenthunderstru

The copyright claims that people are getting are coming from the ZFT. Frank bought his catalog back from Warner YEARS ago giving WMG no power of Frank's music. It may not be Dweezil doing it personally but it is the family. Are you intentionally lying trying to make the ZFT look less ugly and underhanded than it is or are you ignorant to the situation?

  • not only do the recordings/release suck, but so does the fact that you can't find transcriptions on web because of this fascist approach. I once purchased scores years ago from barfo-co swill never again I guess franks music really only belongs in the hands of those who subscribe to those who conform to the thoughts of chairman frank

  • Why would you be pissed at Gail (Zappa, I presume)? You should be pissed at Youtube. They are the ones who make the profit off of you posting Zappa's work. If Youtube would pay up to the owners of the material, I'm sure there would be no problem.

Why does everyone thing this stuff is free?

  • I know how you feel, I have had over a dozen disabled now...I still keep putting them out though!

    CRANK SOME FRANK!!

  • Please, what is this song, and who is it by?, its fucking sweet

  • Pops up once when the page is opened: Terrance Brewer "Ray of Hope". You are right, it is very nice.

  • whats this jazz track playing here?

  • It was real hot, and everybody was workin' hard, so I figured I'd rip off her...her drawers, and get a little.

  • U'r right flowerpunk: u can't listen musik on air any more; only "dumb all over". And I agree that ZPT shouldn't ban any video. OZ and Halloween!? - I never listen those. Can u fill us up?

  • YES, PLEASE flowerpunkchip, I NEED my Halloween shows (versions) back so BADLY, so I can download b-4 it gets pulled again...the vids u put up were some of the BEST I had! Would u b willing to try again--??? If so, PLEASE let me know (I have subscribed to your channel now) so I canm download thenm QUICK!! ANY HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED!!! THANKS SOOO MUCH!!!

zappaloverforever...P.S.; write me! let's be "friends"!!

  • yeah, see OZ sounds like shit. I have bought every single CD, some more than once. Including Gails usury rates on posthumous work, which is profiteering. I'm not interested in depending on her to see a couple things I never could, now that she's shown me at least two things which are entirley substandard > FZ told her he wanted her Out of The Business, anyway.

The ins and outs of youtube collecting doesn't make for a compelling argument here, not to me.

  • Can you find that interview/quote and pass it on? I love his music, and I am not happy about what the ZFT is creating as a business model.

  • I don't recall an interview, this is Gail quoting Frank.

  • Is this the Mothers of Invention recording under a different name in a last ditch attempt to get their CRUDDY music NOT played on the internet?

  • npspec34, am I understanding you to say that you think either The Mothers of Invention OR Frank Zappa plays "CRUDDY MUSIC"???!!? If so, you are a TASTELESS FOOL!! Why did you even come to this vid & listen, then?? If I'm misunderstanding then I apologize, but it sure sounds to me like you ought to join up with the FZ Internet Police, or join a censorship group. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!! Leave us LOYAL FANS alone!!

  • if you were such a loyal fan, you'd recognize the "cruddy music" reference from the Ruben and the Jets cover. Frank's own words - didn't catch the satire?

  • I am a VERY loyal fan...I had to re-listen, you see I never admitted to knowing EVERYTHING about FZ or The Mothers, etc. - I am still learning; everything I POSSIBLY CAN! you are correct however, and I WAS out-of-line. I APOLOGIZE for the comment. I guess I showed a bit of my "dumb all over" side, there, didn't I??

    :-)

  • No worries - the conceptual continuity's not easy - FZ's world is pretty vast. There's loads I don't know and I've been a frankophile since Hot Rats came out (I was 12 years old and blown away by it).

  • Actually, bodhibrither, you sound like a VERY COOL PERSON, & I owe you a debt of THANKS, for pointing out my 'dumb' mistake. I also owe "flowerpunkchip" an apology. This was a great clip, & I have subscribed to his channel. You see, I'm still a "neophyte" @ FZ's VAST (as you said) info..both music, mind, & genius. I got into him 1st when I was @ 18-19 yrs. old; a friend of mine had a "Best Of"; FZ-cassette, & I remember listening to his music then, & being ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY! I'm out of spc!
