  • Ralphie boy shoulda called 'er Simone.

  • Ralph H. Baer is epic win.

  • Dude!! thanks for this. Brings back so many happy memories. I loved Pik-axe pete. Do you have that one?

  • bump

  • shit this is better then MW2

  • The guy that made this game was also the inventor of the Magnavox Odyssey itself (the first one), the inventor of the actual Simon (as ChowderHeadFilms mentioned), and made the first home lightgun! He was still alive as recently as last year, I think he's about 90 years old. I haven't heard of him passing away.

  • yay! I bought one from eBay for 25€ (~$35 USD) and it arrived today. its totally AWESOME!!!!!

  • the guy how made this game also made simon

  • It amazes me how he cab create a 6 minute review of Simon.

  • Sometime around 1979 Phillips purchased Magnavox. Before this, you had to go to a Magnavox dealer to buy the games - and they weren't cheap.

When I hear people complain about special editions of modern games costing $70, I think back to when I purchased Thunderball! back in 1978 for an astounding $49.99!!!

What is that, like, $150 in today's money?

  • I believe my father had purchased an Odyssey 2 aground 80, maybe late 79'.

He had the variation that came out with the black controllers with red buttons.

I'm sucker for these things and father is big on nostalgia with these things so I HAD to have a MO2, its pure 78' goodness.

I love playing my small library of superb Odyssey 2 games, not all of them are great, but even the one's that are sub par are still great because of Magnavox's great advertising.

  • good memory!

  • Those graphics are amazing!

    No seriously.

    :)

    I love Retro <3

  • 22?!

    Mark is apparently magic.

  • I'm surprised he made it to 22. I was never that good at these long memorization patterns even as a kid.

  • I wonder if the sequence gets to 256 and then loops or something? Of course, no one's likely to get that far, but you could certainly try.

  • Those instructions were written with special people in mind.

  • If you have it, or if you ever get a copy of it, please review Interplanetary Voyage.

  • Well, the guy who made Simon Says also made The Odyssey. You know Ralph H. Baer, the Grandfather of Video Games! He invented Pong before pong.

  • @Morahman7vnNo2 he isnt really so much the grandfather...games go further back than what he did...granted he contributed lots to what we have today. but he didnt start it off or anything. he was just a pionerring assistant to the games over all growth. however yeah he made simon says and that echo indeed

  • @Xegethra He invented the Brown Box, the first home game console as far as I know, if that doesn't make him the grandfather then I don't know what does.

  • @Morahman7vnNo2 the cathode ray tube amusement device was what really started computer and video gaming. like i said, he may have made early advances, but he isnt exactly a founding gandfather of the industry, just a guy who contributed granted, heavily to the whole thing....but i wouldnt consider him a grandfather figure for it

  • @Xegethra Fair enough, it's because I judge by the commercially successful on television format; though it would be cool to play pong on my oscilloscope.

  • @Morahman7vnNo2 ahh i see....

tennis for two looks interesting...even if it isnt pong. but pong on that would be nice all the same haha. i love the green trails it leaves behind

  • how is this echo, i thought this was more like simon says.

  • I've become hooked on classic games now, I figured out how to use DOSBox and I might buy an Odyssey 2 off of Ebay when I get the money :-)

  • do you use DOSbox to play oddysse games?

  • your name is floaty pineapple

    lol

  • change the name to "echo deathmatch", add a rocket launcher and it's a hit

  • how much does a magnavox cost now and are there any in pal?

  • There is a PAL version, but I think it was "Phillips" branded.

  • Philips videopac... I have one. :D

  • So are Phillips and Magnavox the same thing?

  • Nope. I assume Magnavox contracted Phillips, a European company, to distribute and market it in Europe.

  • whoah!! Nice graphics. I need to get back to doing my mental gymnastics now.

  • Classic Game Room HD - ECHO! for Magnavox Odyssey 2

  • COOL

  • You realize that he was talking about Caesar right? Apocalyptic writings are social commentaries that were written in such a way that the writer could get his opinion out and not have to worry about being arrested and executed. I believe this was one of the reasons the Catholic Church (which put that book in the canon to begin with) have denounced it.

Michel de Nostredame is a another good examples of this. There are probably others but I'm in computer forensics, not historical anthropology =\

  • lol !

  • Does the game time out if you don't press anything after a set period of time?

  • Who cares? Seriously, who would give a shit.. Show off in comments and spam about your vids? Plain pathetic..

    To coollyaid

  • At least the intro still has my favorite part which is the filter sweeping in and out on the motif (the oh-eh ee-eh oh-eh ee-eh for you non-synth-geeks).

  • Hey I like the shortened intro sequence I think it is a lot better to use this for your shorter videos and the other one for the longer 2 or 3 part videos.

  • Great review as always, simple game, yet fun. Gotta love the old school games. Speaking of old school, I loved the old school Game Room music at the end of the review! "The Game Room Sucka!" :)

  • i saw this guy reviewed a wii game, he must have just gotten wii. plus, i typed this on my wii.

  • I told Dena I was watching a review of "Echo!" for the Odyssey 2 and she freaked out, "There's an Ecco game for the Odyssey 2!?!?!"

  • 666 videos... wow

  • uh oh...

  • Uhm.... and?

  • And it means absolutely nothing.

  • I suck at simon !_!

  • I want pico!!! Review Pico!

  • Cool vid CGR. But one complaint is that in the last 3 videos you reviewed 1 game of a game-pack. Like Wii sports, basketball and bowling, and this one. But why don't your review the other(s) game(s)?

I really wanted to see the review of basketball on MO2 cause I never saw a gameplay of it. :S

    Still cool as always.

  • Like the new intro that isn't a bajillion seconds long

  • wow...666 video...creepy

  • keep up the best vids ever.

  • I get it. You push the buttons located on the deck of the Odyssey Microprocessor? It's so simple!

  • Holy ja-beepes, 23?!

  • awsome

  • This channel is AWSOME!

  • oh wow... Simon...

  • Shit GFX!! Crysis is way better 0_o

  • Oh geeze, I think I would have to write down the combos to get very far....

  • Well I think I will pass on ever owning this game lol.

  • It gets challenging around 7 for me! I'm no good at these 'simon'-type games.

  • nice vid

  • Great review Mark!

you totally make me want to run out and find an Odyssey 2 to buy. makes me miss my old Telstar game system.

  • why r ppl so bothered he wrote second WOOO?

  • because people like hate

  • I really like this kind of game. You're the master reviwer CGRHD!Hope you do some games of SNES like megaman x1, super mario world and other cool titles very soon!

  • nice great job!

you should put the introduction video with all those videogame systems...i realy love it lol 5 stars
