The guy that made this game was also the inventor of the Magnavox Odyssey itself (the first one), the inventor of the actual Simon (as ChowderHeadFilms mentioned), and made the first home lightgun! He was still alive as recently as last year, I think he's about 90 years old. I haven't heard of him passing away.
Sometime around 1979 Phillips purchased Magnavox. Before this, you had to go to a Magnavox dealer to buy the games - and they weren't cheap.
When I hear people complain about special editions of modern games costing $70, I think back to when I purchased Thunderball! back in 1978 for an astounding $49.99!!!
I believe my father had purchased an Odyssey 2 aground 80, maybe late 79'.
He had the variation that came out with the black controllers with red buttons.
I'm sucker for these things and father is big on nostalgia with these things so I HAD to have a MO2, its pure 78' goodness.
I love playing my small library of superb Odyssey 2 games, not all of them are great, but even the one's that are sub par are still great because of Magnavox's great advertising.
a five minute review for a game that only displays 5 numbers and a word and uses a concept everyone knows? this is a new low... no wonder that musha review had to be 3 hours long
@Morahman7vnNo2 he isnt really so much the grandfather...games go further back than what he did...granted he contributed lots to what we have today. but he didnt start it off or anything. he was just a pionerring assistant to the games over all growth. however yeah he made simon says and that echo indeed
@Xegethra He invented the Brown Box, the first home game console as far as I know, if that doesn't make him the grandfather then I don't know what does.
@Morahman7vnNo2 the cathode ray tube amusement device was what really started computer and video gaming. like i said, he may have made early advances, but he isnt exactly a founding gandfather of the industry, just a guy who contributed granted, heavily to the whole thing....but i wouldnt consider him a grandfather figure for it
@Xegethra Fair enough, it's because I judge by the commercially successful on television format; though it would be cool to play pong on my oscilloscope.
You realize that he was talking about Caesar right? Apocalyptic writings are social commentaries that were written in such a way that the writer could get his opinion out and not have to worry about being arrested and executed. I believe this was one of the reasons the Catholic Church (which put that book in the canon to begin with) have denounced it.
Michel de Nostredame is a another good examples of this. There are probably others but I'm in computer forensics, not historical anthropology =\
hi ive watched all your videos and im only 11 years old I do not own a atari or ant other old game systems because im eleven so yeah but im so used to my xbox 360 and psp and wii and xbox oh and plz caomment to my videos
At least the intro still has my favorite part which is the filter sweeping in and out on the motif (the oh-eh ee-eh oh-eh ee-eh for you non-synth-geeks).
Hey I like the shortened intro sequence I think it is a lot better to use this for your shorter videos and the other one for the longer 2 or 3 part videos.
Great review as always, simple game, yet fun. Gotta love the old school games. Speaking of old school, I loved the old school Game Room music at the end of the review! "The Game Room Sucka!" :)
Cool vid CGR. But one complaint is that in the last 3 videos you reviewed 1 game of a game-pack. Like Wii sports, basketball and bowling, and this one. But why don't your review the other(s) game(s)?
I really wanted to see the review of basketball on MO2 cause I never saw a gameplay of it. :S
I really like this kind of game. You're the master reviwer CGRHD!Hope you do some games of SNES like megaman x1, super mario world and other cool titles very soon!

I wonder if the sequence gets to 256 and then loops or something? Of course, no one's likely to get that far, but you could certainly try.

Nope. I assume Magnavox contracted Phillips, a European company, to distribute and market it in Europe.
