To me, the greatest performer will never lip-synch, and michael did it religiously so he can dance. Dangerous tour(1992-1993) partially live( he lipsynced some songs like Jam, cuz that song is so fast, it's almost impossible to sing it live while dancing), HIStory tour(1996-1997) partially live(he lipsynced some songs there too because of throat problems(larangythis or something).

The majority of his tours/performances were sung live.

@Bananpulver No, you are wrong! MJ didn't sing much live since 1987 -Bad tour. If you are a great MJ fan like me, you can listen and spot immediatly when he is lipsyncing because the voice and the song changes to the exact same way like in the CD. Because MJ is a performer, the dance demanded so much, therefore he almost never sang live after 1987 - Bad tour. He was just too old and tired and the voice broke or he had to breathe too much. It's all ok, he was still a great artist.

@Bananpulver Well, I agree, technically you are right. MJ was awesome during Thriller-Bad-Dangerous period. But most of his fame to the younger audience comes from Dangerous and the later CDs, which are sub-par, where he almost never sang live. You can see when he is lipsynching because he is pretending to hold the mic in front of his mouth to hide it sometimes. Also you can hear 'heee-heeee' just like MJ says at the same time you can hear him singing the actual song -how is that possible MJ?

Btw, I really don't see what is the big deal if an artist lip sync to their own song. I can see complaining if the artist lip synch a song that is not theirs.
