Well, Greece may not need protection from Turkey since the world today is somewhat civilized but Greece will probably want Nato more than NEED nato.
Greece has had a disastrous experience with the Euro(but ask a German and they will tell you it's Greece's fault for having corruption and bloated payrolls)..
It probably benefits all parties concerned when they act both proactively and collectively to solve the world's problems

The USA and the EU are both democratic and both want to uphold the ideas of democracy, so whats the reason to fear each other if they have something in common?
Also, the USA and EU have been friends for so long that we consider each other family, even if they don't agree with things sometimes.

Whilst I admire the Russian military, its tactics are simple and are really based around using force in numbers, it is large scale and clumsy. That is not good for Afghanistan, NATOs surgical approach is far more efficient, this being said our armies are still designed around fighting you and not ragheads so we too are suffering problems
