  • I found it interesting. I have long know about Musique Concrete, and been interested in the idea. Some people who don't think of this as valid music expression probably would not like a group like Savage Aural Hotbed (whom I really liked when I heard them.)

  • I now realized... I made musique concrete as a child. On a computer, using just microsoft recorder. Then saved it on discettes. If musique concrete even is possible using computers.

I really wish I could listen to those pieces now. As a child I considered it just "playing around" and when I became teen I considered them rubbish, and I think I erased it... What a fool!

  • unfortunately this is music, cuz music is the art of the combination of sounds

  • dog barking , a printer and a wacko who decided to distort and come up with this?

  • @opedroefeio This was the first ever sound sampled track!

  • Music is ordered sound - in this case ordered by a composer using a computer and recorded sounds as the main instrument. John cage was happy to listen to sounds ordered by the rhythm of nature or the busy streets of the city.

Melody, Harmony and Rhythm are very narrow terms used in defining certain aspects of certain types of music. Besides this piece has quite an interesting melody, harmony and rhythm - if you expand your expectation of what constitutes those terms.

  • that's tight .... no, I woould never aceppt that this is not the music, MUSIC is something that makes an emotion using sound!

  • Subjectivity is key here.

  • what makes this different to ANY other recording?... it's not music.

  • @JohnF30Music Why isn't it? He organized the sound. And that is the bare bones of music. You say its not music so go ahead and back that up. Why?

  • @Reojo it's not music because it has no melody, harmonies and rhythm. those are the components that define music. anything else you'd like to know?

  • @JohnF30Music Music can have rhythm, melody and harmony but its not required at all. Music is simply the combination of sound. Just because it doesn't meet your expectation of music (which from your profile seems to be pretty generic rap) in no way shape or form nulls it as music.

  • @Reojo what the heck are you talking about? By definition, this crap is not music. period. i just told you the definition of music. There's a different between combination of sounds and music. If you fart while burping, you'll call it music? Get real.

  • @JohnF30Music It depends, was that moment intended? If it was the yes, it can be music. What makes this different than any other song? He put together sounds but instead of guitar and drum he used found sounds. Just because it isn't a radio single doesn't mean its not music. Some of us really like ambient songs like this.

  • By the way, I think this is neat.

  • Thought I heard a dog or four bark in there.

  • i have had to mAke a music concrete composition for my coursework for uni,, its quite fun to make but sounds terrible

  • it is art just because you associate!

  • would be more interesting to listen to, if knowing what the intention of the musician was...

  • Well, i'm sorry but... I have difficulties finding art inside this. Maybe I'm wrong and I'm probably, because there is no correct definition of the art, but... I thought the emotion was something that it has to be in music. But is that music? Help me please, tell me what makes you feel good in that piece of sound?

  • John cages definition of music: Music is the sound around us.

  • @cobei12 doesn't mean he's right, but fair enough

  • @cobei12 No, his definition of music is; Music is organized sound. He did believe though that there was no such thing as silence because all of the sounds around us.

  • all is music

  • @DeadEndDaCapo music is the harmony of every day life if we choose to listen.

  • I'm of a mind that any music can be enjoyed by anybody when you hear it through the right lens. Can someone share their lens with me? (Yeah I know the hear/lens metaphor kind of blows)

  • A phonograph perhaps!

  • Splendid ! I love Pierre Schaeffer and I am very pleased to find this composition here !

  • or Matmos

  • Most certainly Matmos

  • nice, its nice.. =)

  • this is really spectacular.

  • i liked it

  • That was friggin spooky, I loved it!
