  • mortal kombat 2 for the sega genesis 32X kills the super nintendo version.

  • @Sasuke15697 When was the last time you played the 32X version? The sprites defiantly look better on the 32X, and they put the missing sprites back in. The sound still sounds like the Genesis they did not fix that problem (then again the 32X sound chip was was rarely used and in MK2 they stuck with the Gen sound chip). The other issue is the backgrounds were still the same reused sprites from the Genesis. Over all I still feel the SNES was better. Now throw Satrurn in the mix then it wins.

  • Unless you count Mortal Kombat 2 where Nintendo learned its lesson and kept all the violence. Thats why I can only say they faulted on 1, but 2 was superior on the SNES compared to the Genesis.

  • @XxsinyxxX Totally agree see round 5 for the MK2 showdown.

  • nice choosing for a game ( /sarcasm)

why dont you compare mortal kombat 2 or 3? lets see who wins in that category then -_-

  • @Happytreefriendsfan3 Why don't you look it up. He has already done MK2.

  • DAMN you need a better microphone. You have a good voice, confident delivery, good overall videos, but the sound quality is so awful it makes me really question if I want to watch this.

  • @TornadoCreator Thank you and I totally agree with you. I've been looking at high end mics at Best Buy, but they are pricey. After I buy my graphics tablet I plan on getting a good mic.

  • you tuck away a point from Nintendo and gave it to sega just because of the lack of blood even tough it was better in every other way? how ridiculous!

  • @SevenLivesManyFaces and I respect your opinion. The reasoning behind that, which has been discussed to death, is Mortal Kombat without the blood and gore is just another Street Fighter wannabe. The only reason MK even made it was because of the shock factor actors not sprites. Let's face it MK was just an okay game it didn't have the advanced game play that the later games had.

  • @SevenLivesManyFaces The only reason people were drawn to it was to see the next death scene. All the characters have the same basic attack styles... so yes the Genesis version wins. You take away the fatalities and you are back to just an okay game that wants to try and cash in on the 1 vs 1 style of fighting games that were made popular by Capcom and SNK.

  • @SegaVsNin it should have been a draw then at least, i have MK 1 for the Sega Mega-CD and i am appalled how bad it still looked and sound and played compared to SNES, embarrassing.

  • @SevenLivesManyFaces The music for the Sega CD one was really good but they had added music to the game that was not there before and they mixed up the audio tracks which was a bit of a downer. I am also confused as to why they just recycled Genesis graphics when they could have updated it to make it better. But at least you didn't need to input the DULLARD code. I can't say the SNES had better sound than the Genesis... it was good but it was not arcade accurate either.

  • The genesis has the better music. The nintendo version sounds crappy. The genesis plays closer to the arcade version as well, but looks terrible

  • @TheDemoGameplayVault I never noticed that, thank you for pointing that out.

  • I think that if Nintendo had all that gore, would be the best port, colorful, great control and the most important... GORE!!!!!!!! but it didn't had it, so let's face the truth, Sega won. BTW i own a copy of both sistems, and i still think sega won!

  • I actually felt that the Genesis had the best music of all the versions, even the arcade. In terms of instrument quality, no, but they were composed far better. With the SNES and Arcade music, it was sort every stereotypical Asian instrument being played at the same time, and not in the good way.

  • Genesis version was the better version because of the Blood Code. The original Mortal Kombat was pretty terrible as a fighting game. You played it for the blood and fatalities. If you wanted a good fighting game, you played Street Fighter 2.

  • I liked the Genesis version more not because of blood, but because it played closer to the arcade version.

  • Sega sucks! just face it, don't try and spin this around just because of some blood which doesn't take away any gore or joy of the game.

You all Sega lovers have always been the same! jealous of Nintendo, no arguments whatsoever, I've been hearing the same kind of stuff since I was a kid!

  • @surferboy36O I can't face it because Sega doesn't suck. There are many great games on the SNES and on the Genesis there is no denying that. I don't love Sega nor do I love Nintendo I love video games. You want to see a big difference in games take a look at Sega vs Nintendo for Samurai Showdown. There is way too big of a difference there to deny that the Sega version is better. I used to defend the SNES version for so many years but the truth hurts, so does the lack of blood in a game where it

  • @surferboy36O Nnnno, really even at the time Nintendo fans admitted the Genesis version was superior because of the blood (even if it was a cheat to get it). I was a nintendo fanboy, growing up, and that one was still obvious.

  • @foxchild I don't care for the blood, I never did, I much rather have better graphics, better sound, controller, etc.

  • I don't understand why this was even close. I have both versions and the Genesis is the better version because it plays better. SNES version has better graphics and sound, but it has laggy game play. You can tap the controller in a direction, but not move. You have to press and hold it to walk.

  • @Cage820 The reason for the tap movement is so the character wont move when doing tap inputs.

  • Honestly, since I've become so de-sensitized, the Genesis one doesn't really seem that extreme anymore. Once blood does nothing for you, the SNES seems just fine. It's not as if they changed all the fatalities anyway...

  • The "Genesis" clips are from the Sega CD version, if I'm not mistaken. The life bar in the Genesis version had the characters names outside of the bar. The Sega CD was closer to the arcade by putting the names back in the bar.

  • messege to everyone who chose nintendo seganto will have your ass

  • I did my own Super Nintendo Mortal Kombat 1 vs Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Mortal Kombat 1 comparison over on IMDB.

A lot of people seem to like comparing Super Nintendo Mortal Kombat 1 to Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Mortal Kombat 1.

You'll find the most differences in these 2 versions/ports of Mortal Kombat 1 compared to the Super Nintendo & Sega Genesis/Mega Drive versions/ports of Mortal Kombat II, Mortal Kombat 3 & Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

  • the point is again for the sega. nintendo is such a loser. annoying voices, censore. I did never understand anyway why they are censored the blood. everyone has it. Sega and arcade are always the best beacuse sega sounds always make the people happy I mean the original arcade got great soundtracks but sega is special. Both of them are awesome. but snes is a cheap copy...many times...

  • I was always raised a Nintendo kid. But Mortal Kombat with the blood was one of the main reasons I convinced my parents to buy me a Sega

  • @Jakobslife2 There was but it just changed the color of the sweat to a red color. Not quite the same.

  • did i say it b4? mad person

  • ...just because of a "blood" code, sega win? FAIL!

  • @kaox44 Seriously does this need to be discussed again? Sega Vs Nintendo is about who has the closest conversion to the arcade. Without blood the game gets even further away from the arcade than the colors or sound being off. The proof is in the pudding. Take a look at the game sales and the minor differences in the reviews in the gaming magazines back in the day.

  • @SegaVsNin

I still think the SNES version is far more superior minus the blood. I can't find myself playing the genesis version and thinking that it's better then the SNES version. It's not rational.

  • @SegaVsNin i agree, i think that Although the SNES is the more advanced piece of hardware Sega had some brilliant company/business skills, that often included working there way around obstacles.

  • @SegaVsNin but Mk2 was better in the snes

  • @SegaVsNin cmon nintendo is better then sega on mortal kombat.and is not midway's fault for the blood. is nintendo's fault.becouse dont allow the blood the idiots.but you're right saga wins

  • snes version of this anyday

  • the audio is really jacked up in this part man, might wanna try to re upload it or re dub it

  • The SNES definitely looked better, but the button layout on the 6 button genesis controller was perfect for MK. Music is really personal preference in this game too. I personally like the genesis version. It doesnt get the harsh filtering that can happen sometimes on the snes and just sounds meaner.

  • No its just that you like nintindo more thin sega thats all SEGA IS THE BEAST WITH MK

  • i only have the one for the SNES

  • Both versions are cool in their own rights but Arcade version is the best.

*SNES has sound and graphics that seem more arcade accurate. Plus at the end when you defeat Shang Tsung, the screen flashes and the souls of the 7 playable fighters come out.

*Sega not only has the blood and gore (via the codes), but it also let's you enter your initials after you win a certain # of fights in a row just like the arcade. Plus the same requirements to face Reptile (shadow flies in front of the moon).

  • @Nicksolo85

"Both versions are cool in their own rights but Arcade version is the best."

Well duh?? because the arcade version was the original. The console versions were just ports on systems which was inferior to the arcade hardware. Of course the arcade is going to be better in every way.

  • "Plus at the end when you defeat Shang Tsung, the screen flashes and the souls of the 7 playable fighters come out.

Soo what?? The snes version didn't even have proper ending screens like in the arcade. All it had is just the sprite of the character with ending text scrolling.

At least the genesis version, even with it's limited graphics tries to replicate the ending screens to be more like the arcade.

  • @poster12345678 some things I decided.....

Easiest version of MK1 goes to Sega Genesis

Best Background Music (for the most part) goes to Super Nintendo

    Best Graphics go to Arcade

Crappiest, slowest or hardest version of MK1 goes to Game Boy

  • yea snes mk sucks, its slow and glitchy. genesis always played as fast as the arcade. graphics dont appeal to me at all never have

  • What you talking about music the Genesis was better then the arcade.

If you run the video on slow motion you will notice theat SNES has linfinit less frames per second then Genesis

  • That is why mortal kombat 1 for sega genesis, sold much better compared to the snes version. Not being a sega fanboy, but people wanted the gore just like the arcade version.

  • Mortal Kombat played better on SNES, but Genesis had all of the blood and the real fatalities which skewed reviews and sales back in the day.

It's hard to believe now that video games were censored the way MK was back in the 90s. If I bought a game like GTA IV with all of the censorship from 93 I'd be pissed.

  • No way it does, ive got both and the Genesis version plays alot smoother, just doesnt look as good.

  • I agree. The Genesis plays more like the Arcade version if you have the 6 button controller. I still think that the MAME (arcade emulator) version is the only way to go.

Has anyone played the Sega CD version???

  • ook

  • ook where do you work

  • number 3 is way better but this tihs good 2

  • Yeah and I'd like to make more but with my new job I work 50 hrs a week and barely have time to eat before I goto bed at night. So I spend that extra couple hours with my family. Some day I will get another one done though.

  • I really don't see why people still choose to use Zsnes when Snes9x is so much better in every single aspect. It even has a video recording program built into it.

  • it's all about that Genesis Sub Zero head rip, I mean I had Mortal Kombat trilogy for ps1 and they stil had that fatal censored. I'll take snes over sega for every single game that they share except for Mk1.

  • Eh, and Aladdin... @_@

  • i agree:P

  • I remember when this game came out for the SNES and I called the Nintendo hotline to get a list of the fatalities for each character and the guy who took my call said, "They're not FATALITIES - they're FINISHING MOVES!"

  • That would be Killer Instincts.

  • lol

  • No need to compare .. the SNES version was even better than the Sega CD version

  • nintendo sold out sega by taking out there greatest games like sonic ahha i hate sega

  • we ALL know that Mortal Kombat was the only thing that saved the Sega, just b/c of the blood mode....but once MK2 on SNES came out....it was a wrap

  • that's why i'll take sega any day

  • One aspect does not over-rule the many merits of the SNES. Sega blows.

  • Jesus man for a moment I thought you were going to make the wrong choice.

I remember as a kid playing the SNES version, I HATED IT. you couldn't rip peoples heads off and there was no blood.

Graphics, sounds and even game play was second to the fact you could rip spinal cords out, rip out hearts and punch peoples heads off.

MK2 was much better on the SNES though.

  • Finally someone understands! Thank you. And I completely agree with MK2 on the SNES being better.

  • What these noobs don't understand is that the genesis version of the game had the blood and gameplay. and snes had the graphics and sound. To me gameplay is more important. snes was very buggie in gameplay.

  • @grgmj1980 Thank you! I don't know about buggy game play because that was the one I played the most so maybe I was just used to it. But as I said many times and in the video. Mortal Kombat without blood no longer MK. It would just be another clone of Street Fighter II. It never would have become as popular as it did with out it. If Midway went ahead with their dumb Van Dammn game then it would have died off very quickly and we never would have know the potential of MK>

  • @grgmj1980

I agree with you about the gameplay on the genesis version.

Apart from you, there has been NO ONE else that even noticed that apart from the blood, the genesis version also had gameplay resembling the arcade version alot more.

Every moron that says the genesis version is better (which means they're only half right for noticing this), only mention it because of the blood. None of them even noticed that the gen also had the gameplay as well.

  • The gameplay on the snes version completely sucks! I played MK at the arcades often back in the day (the reason why I noticed that the Gen version plays alot more similarly to the arcade)

and seems that with the snes version, while they bothered to make the graphics and sound really good... The programmers got completely lazy and stupid with programming everything else!! (controls suck. AI sucks, game is buggy and glitchy).

Genesis version is better all the way.

  • Come on, this has to be BS. So in this compairson...if you add "blood" then you win and it doesn't even matter if the game is good or not? So in theory...I can add blood to any shitty game and come out on top?

  • Street Fighter FTW

  • what was the point for mortal kombat on snes if you prohibit blood, but show the fatality? retarded to the max.

  • Which is exactly why MK2 had blood in in. Nintendo did not want to loose out on all that money like they did on the first game. MK sold much better on the GEN than on the SNES.

  • really, you're not being fair. you just altered the score over your personal opinion. I saved the videos into my playlists by the way, but i must say you should have left it as the initial score. just because of the blood?

  • Part of the fun of Mortal Kombat was the gore. You take that away it's just another SF clone. But yeah I agree with you to a point.

  • I prefer the Megadrive version as the controls we much tighter. I owned a Super Nintendo at the time so I just played the Snes version but many years later I realised that the Snes seemed to have a delay in response timing. Was fixed up in Mortal Kombat 2 though

  • Actually, there's a code for SNES that made bloody sweat.

  • MK 2 on SNES was Better than Sega's....actually so was MK3. Now if it wasnt for the loading times...ultimate MK3 on PS1 would've been, Ultimate.

  • I'm a nintendo fan also but yeah I like sega version of this game more.

I use to go to my friends house just so I could play it.

  • Nintendo All the Way!

  • watch:Angry Video Game Nerd: Nintendo vs. SEGA

    who won?

  • Even though the fatalities in the SNES version were changed, they used those ideas for future MK games, like Sub-Zero freezing and crushing his opponent or Cage driving his foot onto the victim's torso, which was Li-Mei's fatality in MKDA. Still, no blood = ball suckage.

  • Apart from Graphics and Sound, the SNES conversion was horrible the Violence which was a big seller for MK was taken out which left MK feeling like a generic fighting game and also the fact that they edited the gameplay. The Mega Drive version was the best home console version at its time.

  • Not to mention the Sega Genesis version had the original profiles from the arcade version and even had the arcade endings. While the SNES version character profiles sucked since the used the in-game character designs for it and the endings were text only. Very half-assed if you ask me. Genesis version wins.

  • i think the nintendo version kicked sega's ass but this is your oponion

  • My point exactly. I'm glad that my choice on this one makes sense to some people. I remember back in middle school as well it was the Genesis on top. Back when the game was originally released we played the game to see people get dismembered not just because it was a fun game. If thats all we wanted we played Street Fighter.

  • really!are you fucking joking! that was a complete win for snes. the fact that you chose genesis for blood actually makes me mad, really mad.

  • No that was not the single reason why the SNES lost... don't get me wrong I love the SNES game I am a huge Nintendo fanboy (there I said it) but what is it that actually sold this game? Was because of a great game? Seriously what made this game so appealing to onlookers. Of course it was the shock factor. With out that the game never would have caught on. So I stand on what I said this is exactly why the Genesis version sold so much more than the SNES. The proof is in the pudding...

  • Just wanted to give my opinion. I own both versions. And I play the SNES the version much much more! The controls and sound are extreamly tight and I'm old enough to know animated blood does not make a game great. Nintendo had a better version hands down. Even peope I know that grew up with the Sega version bought it for the SNES later because it feels and sounds more like the arcade.

  • even i can admit nintendo smoked sega on this game...i was a proud genesis owner, but mk was just ugly...loved the blood, though ABACABB

  • You lost all credibility when despite superior sound, controls and graphics on SNES you still gave the point to Genesis simply because it had blood.

  • What you don't understand... what I'm doing here is trying to show which games are closer to the arcade and giving the arcade feel. Not so much as to which game looked and sounded better. Yes that is part of getting that arcade feel but when you take the most interesting part of the game away then it's just another brawler. Now if I did MK II I can guarantee you the SNES would have won. Think about it. Because of the poor sales that is exactly why Nintendo allowed the blood in the 2nd game.

  • mk2 was better snes

  • Agreed!

  • Completely Agreed

  • bias opinion

  • fuck you super nitendo is better !

  • The one thing I don't like (for 2D MK games) is that each character has the same normal moves. The only thing that makes them different is special moves. If the specials were'nt there, it would be like playing as the same character, but with a different character model.

  • So the genesis had blood, big whoop. the graphics and sound were terrible. might as well not have blood. plus that shitty 3 button controller if you didn't upgrade to the 6 button one.

  • I agree with you that the SNES has much better graphics and sound, but you are neglecting to mention that the SNES had pretty sloppy controls, while the Genesis version played tight like the arcade. The bad controls of the SNES version, along with the Genesis version's gore, gives the Genesis the victory.

  • This is awesome!

  • Whatl, this is unfair

Genesis: mk, graphics are horrible there is no full background, in SNES they had mountains included at the background and the graphics are better

  • So let me get this straight. You basing the SNES version being better just because there are mountains and the graphics are better. Don't get me wrong I love the SNES version but better game play on the Gen and you have full fatalities and gore.

  • Genesis - Strengths; Blood and original fatalities! Better control than SNES, cool cheat modes add to fun.

Weaknesses; Graphics are crap, moves look lousy, sounds are weak, need 6-button controller for better control layout.

Despite the lousy qualities, this version was a better buy at the end of the day. The violence and better controls made this one rank higher than the SNES version.

    Genesis for the win!

  • This was a classic battle in late 1993!

SNES - Strengths; Graphics and sound match the arcade with excellent precision, that's about it!

Weaknesses; Controls are HORRIBLE!!! They are unresponsive and that made doing moves and combos a bitch to do, censored, slower processing time.

Good attempt to distract us from the blood by making the graphics and sound awesome, but the censorship and slow controls just made this version something to be desired.

  • Cheat Menu:Down,Up,Left,Left,A,Right,Down

    (DULLARD) At the main menu.

  • also, in the intro text screen, push A B A C A B B. the text will turn red and and you wil hear scorpion's voice. That is just the blood code. DULLARD also has the blood code, but it has flags to make things easier (like instant kills and fighting reptile).

  • I was just about to write: OMG stupid Nintendo fanboy, but yeah this is indeed a game where the Sega version is much better, thx to the blood.

  • blood isint everything look where sega is now making games for nintendo and look at how many addons it needed to compete with the snes nintendo kicks ass sega licks ass

  • you just watched AVGN. The point was one game dammit. MK. Blood wins.

  • Why can't people realize that the genesis actually came out to compete with the original NES? The snes is better because it was newer same with X-box and PS2, the box came out later, and had better games and graphics, same thing here.

  • This is partially true but in some respects the Genesis was better. It's not all just hardware that makes a system great it's also the software programming. As you will see if you watch the difference in Sega Vs Nintendo round 3. Samurai Shodown on the Gen far surpassed the SNES version. That will not be the only time where a Genesis game will out do an SNES game. But as usual both the GEN and SNES each have their own games that were memorable that were not available on the competitors system.

  • nice video, my beloved genesis is geting whoped in quality lol

  • The SNES version was better. It mimicked the arcade near flawlessly. The only difference was the lack of blood/true fatalities. Big whoop. Music, graphics, and gameplay all go in the Nintendo column.

  • I personally thought it was a shocking display of graphical entertainment. You obviously don't know what your talking about.

  • and neither do you

  • i dont know, there were some details on the genesis version that were directly taken from the arcade version, such as the "shutter effect" when entering the character screen. both title screens were the same as the arcade on the genesis. fighting reptile required shadows on the moon in the pit stage, just like the arcade. censorship made the snes's fatalities different than the arcade's but the genesis kept them intact. i would say the sega version mimicked the arcade better.

  • One of the greatest gaming mistakes in history! i bet nintendo wishes they could do this over again! Nintendo wouldve put genesis out of its misery if it had the blood and fatalities...

  • Isn't that the truth.

  • You never talk about how the SNES versions have better color palettes but that the Genesis controls are much more responsive. Shows how casual a gamer you are.

  • Well this would a matter of preference. Actually I thought the controlling on both games felt the same but with the layout of the SNES controller it made it much easier to control.

  • I own both consoles and both versions of the game, and have definitely noticed a bit of a delayed response with the SNES controls. Of course this will be written off as fanboyism, but just trying to be honest.

  • No like I said that is personal opinion, I wouldn't call you a fanboy. I too own both version. Then I also have it on the Xbox when they released it as a bonus disc that came with Deception. Even playing the Xbox version I don't seem to see any delay. But I thank you for your comments.

  • Exactly, the SNES had a palete of 32,768 colors vs. 512 for Sega. Also the Snes could display 512 colors at once (entire genesisi coor palette) vs. 64 for washed out Sega Genesis

  • Whats really funny is that on the Gens emulator if you keep the A,S,D Keypad, if you put in the blood code is spells A SAD ASS

  • LOL... I've never noticed that. That's funny.

  • A-B-A-C-A-B-B. ROTFL, I still remember the blood code! For the Game Gear, it was 2-1-2 then down and up on the D-Pad. 9 times out of ten, SNES games had better graphics and sound than Genesis games but were PAINFULLY slow! As far as overall gameplay went, I always prefered Genesis to SNES.

  • Everyone has their own opinion, personally, I like the Genesis better because I grew up playing it. I do like the Nintendo, but I'll always pull for the good old Sega, but that's just me.

  • I liked the way the SNES one played and looked better but I was so mad that Nintendo forced them to take the blood out of it.

  • Do Mario vs. Sonic because

    a) you KNOW Sonic is better

    b) you KNOW Sonic has better music

    c) you KNOW it'll be controvercial.

  • What I really want to do is compare apples to apples. Both Sonic and Mario are great games but they can't be compared directly against each other because the games are so different. What I really want to do is compare games that are exactly the same to show the differences between Gen and SNES games. But after I run out of ideas I may end up leaning that way.

  • Ah, I see what you mean now.

    For example:

NBA JAM - SNES vs. NBA JAM - Mega Drive(Genesis)

The SAME game on different consoles. Good idea. I'll subscribe to that.
