I watched the DVD at my friends on Saturday, it went by rather fast and was a fresh take from what I expected. Scary moments are REAL in this movie! Can you post the scary scenes for those who have seen it? (The friend's death in her car, and the light bulb breaking in the attic scenes!)
West is just another horror director. According to some people, H.O.T.D. is his best so far. I wanted to like it, it looked very promising, but the last 30 mins seemed like it was thrown together with not much thought behind. Unless he's planning to do a sequel, this movie is not very good, story wise. The filming was absolutely stunning, it defiantly had that 80's feel.
What good are the chills and scary scenes if there's not much of a story behind it. Yeah, we learn that the girl becomes apart of some satanic ritual, but why. There is really no explanation to it and what about the old people. Why are they helping the supposed devil. What's the significance with the moon? Where did the devil girl, I'll call it that, originate from.
@DaRkLyDrEamiNg000 It's the House of the Devil, the caretakers are making sacrifices to appease the evil within, they are also want to be normal as they can, but they are sworn to the Evil inside the house. I think there was enough mystery about it to make it appealing, where we see the dead bodies and pentagram at first when the door remains closed. I liked how the audience were allowed in to see what the girl cannot , she thinks there is a woman in that room, at first I believe. Good enuff
@DaRkLyDrEamiNg000 personally, i always think things are creepier when they're not fully explained, or explained at all. i like when the movie leaves it up to the audience to figure things out. if the movie had stopped to explain itself to the audience, it would have weakened the pacing and momentum (and the believability!). but at the same time, i can understand your frustrations with that.
@samfuller Not that good, but it's funny when Ti talks about the giant Walkman for the movie, with orange headphone ear pads. It was MY own personal First Walkman, a Sanyo cassette with AM FM stereo tuner, ran on 4 AA batteries and has a silver case for the belt attachment you see her wearing. It was pretty amusing considering it falls on the ground but still works later!
This is how you tell a story. This is more than just horror, this is writing.
This guy is amazing, doing this on no budget, doing this with no fame, and making something special. And getting a really cute girl who's talented.
Somebody give this guy an award for this.

@DaRkLyDrEamiNg000 It had genuine chills and known people starring in it, like Tom Noonen and Dee Wallace (ET and The Howling, and Cujo!)

Firstly I'm a fan of 70's 80's horror movies, but even by 1980's standards this movie is very slow, seen it all before and pretty boring, avoid!
