  • Jesus Lizard is the only band that i listen to since 1991 and i never get bored, on the contrary i dance and shout even louder as the years go by :)

  • best opening track of an album ever!!!!

    Liar!...que disquinho impressionante!

  • best opening track of an album ever!!!!

  • i would so fucking like to drink a cup of tea with yow headbanging the shit out of me.

  • sick and wrong podcast

  • Great sound

  • I was a bartender in the 90's in Tempe and when Jesus Lizard came to play they had a guy hired to keep David sober no matter what. He and I drank a fifth of Beam and he got naked on stage. Long live The Jesus Lizard!

  • i remeber seeing the jesus lizard live in nashville back in 93 or 94 and david yow got me in a bear hug and started to dry hump me and at the same time he was singing i tried to give him a hickey david yow is the king of all frontmen

  • @bstokes1975 Hahahaha! Fuck, I wish I wasn't still a baby when these guys were touring! I was born in the wrong fucking generation!

  • "STRANGE HOW IT MAKES HIM WANT TO TELL LIES"

I know all you have to go on is the clip really, but I am pretty effin sure anyone dissing this never saw the JL live, which is a pity. I was nearly clocked in the face by Yow at the 40 Watt many, many years ago, and it was great. If you crank the studio version of this loudly, you will get a better idea at least.

  • i think rapeman is the same/good as jesus lizrad but "better" singing.

  • I love the bass and drums breakdown thats its bad ass. And David Yow is crazy. i love his singing-talking lol

  • it takes a special person to have a love for the jesus lizard. nuff sed.

  • It really doesn't matter what anyone thinks, sometimes it's just good to shut the fuck up and listen.

  • Please don't get me wrong, I have an open mind for ALL music and I'm deeply passionate about it.

I'm mainly into Pop, Rock and Punk music. And I know some folks are already generalizing just because I said "Pop". I like REAL pop music, not Britney Spears, people.

With that said, I hear nothing here but a load of noise. The bassline is pretty cool but really, everything is just noise here. But if this is the music that moves your soul, then that's awesome.

It sure as hell doesn't move mine.

  • @madeyes4u

I love pop music and I love Jesus Lizard. This is actually a pretty tame noise band though

  • @madeyes4u

Fair enough. You should probably check out the studio version off "Liar" before writing them off completely. They are a noisy band though. Personally I find it cathartic. Forget the vocals for now they just add a another dimension to the band. The music alone is awesome, so it may take a while to get the "singer"'s style

  • @madeyes4u Ironically this is considered "noise rock".

  • baphxiii. Fuck off you nazi

  • i dont give a flying shit who started it both bands are fucking awesome

  • know your history maaaan (haha)

  • All I here is indie rock arguments that have no merit... fuck it they're all sweet. And stand on their own two legs like the rest of us. Chill out and watch the video.

  • Some of you need to learn your music history. Big Black came first and started a whole new sound for the Chicago scene. Jesus Lizard was one of the bands that followed in Big Blacks footsteps.

Dont believe that? One of the first times I saw JL they were an opening band for Dinosaur Jr. Guess who was on tour with JL mixing the live shows? Yep, Steve Albini.

Dont get me wrong, I love both bands, they are both amazing. But Big Black started it all.

  • @baphxiii

doesn't Scratch Acid predate Big Black?

  • Songs About Fucking, four star album!

  • @baphxiii right touch n go scrach acid steve albini everything came first

  • @baphxiii right touch n go scrach acid steve albini everything came first

  • The drummer is sick but the singer is the ultimate WTF

  • this made me want to start a band, because if they are making any money off of this then i could prolly be rich.

  • You couldnt top that.

  • steve albini helped them on some of their tracks so all of you should shut the fuck up

  • Right On GREENWARRIOR ! You are right on the money! Classic retort- except for the fact that Jesus Lizard are Superior!

    HAHAHAH... just the facts -

Big Black are good , but they can only attempt to emulate Yow & Mac(ex Scratch Acid btw!)& co,

  • Um, Big Black was around for a while with no Scratch Acid. They are pretty different bands

  • For the record: Big Black (1982-1987), Jesus Lizard (1987-). Big Black weren't trying to emulate anyone.

  • The jesus lizard are the best

  • Kind of like a poor man's Big Black.

  • except for the part where Jesus Lizard is superior.

  • How do you figure?

Have you listened to scratch acid?

The lead singer and songwriters prior band?

  • I love Big Black, but there is really no comparison.

  • OH fuck off, you-- Jesus Lizard > Big Black

  • You're out of your goddamn mind. Even Albini would agree.

  • well they are touring. Coming to Boston in November.

  • i just saw them last night here in seattle...it was great!!!!! like they'd not even lost the piss...late fifties and still crowd surfing and flipping out all over the place.. Nomeansno was just here too...why are these old guys holdin it down way above these little nostalgia acts running around everywhere?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @HypeTv

    dont belive the hype

  • Thats all good. Intense. I wonder how it feels to be there at live.

  • Jesus Christ, Gluey Porch, I really hope you did not arive at your name from a Melvins Lp. Anyone who mentions Green Day is way off base. Or simply put, get a fucking clue. They suck ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love late 80s rock as much as anyone, but it's easy to say modern music sucks when it hasn't had the time to filter through. if you know where to look, there's some pretty fantastic stuff out there. for straight up raw, angy noise punk, try Mclusky/Future of the Left.

  • Simply great!!

  • Make me another Boilermaker!

  • lizards hard, raw motherfucker of a sound is made believable by yows' insane delivery. he's a great frontman and not some fucking poser.

  • Comment removed

  • LMAO! Green Day blows!

  • Um.... Dillinger escape plan? Napalm Death? Slipknot? Mike Patton?

  • Why did ThristyCraig get thumbed down? Everything he said is true.

  • Or a collection of EXTREMELY talented musicians. Today's youth have nothing remotely close this side of the Metal scene.

  • And you know. Being a youth. I really don't mind that.

  • Its ok, the youth of today are in the capable hands of green day

  • You obviously aren't looking very hard. Today's youth can look out for themselves, thanks.

  • they are playing this weekend in chitown at the pitchfork music fest

  • David Yow was the best frontman since James Brown.

  • Rollins made a good band unlistenible (B.F.), and Yow was one of the ultimate front men ever...and Chicago will always be the music capital of America.

  • not the "live" music capital, austin is hard to beat pound for pound....

  • Lol, my dad is a boilermaker.

  • rollins? more like lux interior. besides rollins was just a caricature for iggy pop anyway. imitation is the highest form of flattery.

the jesus lizard are heavy as fuck...great band...

  • the jesus lizard and most everything david yow does is awesome. i think i personally prefer scratch acid to jesus lizard.

but IMO about henry rollins being a caricature of iggy pop! that makes no sense at all...they have completely different energy. but so does yow, and he's definitely no caricature for rollins either. they are all raw, but they are different flavors of it.

  • U had to SEE Jesus Lizard live to get it...of course if ur 20...u have no clue anyway...JL fukin rocked

  • I SAW. The vids are just degenerate Art KillPorn, and they never could fly at Black Flag airspace. Yow is a goofy caricature of Rollins. For every Lizard song there are a hundred bands who were ten times better. Chicago is the next Detroit. Can you say negative population growth? It's all yours, it's your kind of town. Seriously. Do it. Fluid? Mudhoney? 5000 other bands? Moondog is a fuckstick. Make your sound and go where you need to go. BYE!

  • Fuck all these nerd emo bands that float around these days....Yow has the guts!

  • it's got a funky beat and you can dance to it!

  • lot of credit due to guitarist and bassist

  • Make me another boilermaker goddamnit!

  • That's how punk singers have sang since the dawn of time. Not to mention that it's called fucking noise rock you idiot.

  • Your music teacher told you that right?

    Because that's just bullshit.

Music is suppost to express and that's what JL does. Pure energy. There's many hideous singers out there who fit perfectly into their band. Johnny Rotten sounds like a drunk goat and look how legendary the Sex Pistols became.

  • johnny rotten never sounded drunk to me

  • Did your music teacher told you that?

Because that's not true. Music is suppost to express stuff. The vocals have no meaning in punk. For example Johnny Rotten sounds like a drunk goat and look how legendary the Sex Pistols are.

  • I never really got into the Jesus Lizard much but I loved this song the first time I heard it and still do. One of my favorite songs really...that bass line around 55 seconds in is just so damn bitchin'

  • I love their bass lines.

  • to toughcallretard: You should go back to your backstreet boys albums.

  • Psh, no it isn't! Well, not in this bands case. I mean, it was about the tight rhythm section and the totally insane singer. I guess.

  • go listen to a proper recording that does this song justice. Jesus...

  • WHO..................CARES?!?!?!?!?!?

    Shut up.

  • i can't really agree with that statement. While i see where you're going, JL was pretty experimental, which is what makes them so unique and interesting, in addition to the incredible energy that they provide live.

  • Jesus Lizard = prime awesomeness

  • If nirvana was an under-appricated underground rock band on an indie label you'd love them... also, I would like to state that music lovers need to stop fighting over silly genre titles. EVERY genre title has been created by a critic or a writers. Musicians made the music, they didn't organize it into nice neet files. arguing over what is or isn't "grunge" is time and energy, wasted.

  • so wrong

  • Not a fan of this sort of music but Jesus Lizard had this charm about them that made them, dare I say, catchy. Especially this song. They so much fun to see live.

  • Any video of the Jesus Lizard kicks ass. This is no exception. Saw David Yow with Qui a couple months ago, he's still got it.

  • I fear you may have missed the point my friend, the Jesus Lizard were only about rocking out in the first place so were entirely succesful in their own field.

  • grunge was a result of bands hoping they could accomplish what the jesus lizard did

  • Go drive a mitsubishi. Your opinion means dick.

  • Iggy Envy.

  • what brand of idiot comment is that? quite possibly the dumbest comment one could possibly make about these guys... ponderously dumb.

  • Pixies....Grunge?????

    Yikes man ..do your homework.

  • I disagree. I'd rather listen to them than many, many other bands. It's hard to do music like this and get it right.

  • You're joking right? Grunge?

  • they're reuniting in 2009 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fuckingawesome band not for the un-iniated (see below)

  • Coming from someone who still had shit in their diapers when Jesus Lizard was in their prime it's hard to care what you think. If you didn't experience it for yourself you can't really understand the machine that was Jesus Lizard. Just get back to your Nickelback and Puddle of Mudd.

  • this is just bad music. Straight up, hands down, less than par. being optimistic, though, I now know of one less band that I need trouble with. My ears will forever rest from this abysmal track, praise Jesus (lizard?)

  • Well, that sucks for you. I must say myself as a fan of this delicious band that this IS less than par coz it's LIVE and if you where THERE it probably would've sounded very tasty at the time only now on youtube it kinda sucks. I think you oughta go and get their record named "LIAR" on which this is the first song that blows my tiny mind every single day. On "Liar" this song sounds pretty darn good. It's then followed by "Gladiator", another song with much kapow. Get "Liar" and THEN decide. heh

  • what a fuckin great reply...

  • then and there. only way to love em proper. i fukn miss em bad. i got front "row" at a show and that fukr yow dry humped my face!

  • If David Yow ever dry humps my face I will never wash it again.

  • So you're telling someone to go out and buy music he already doesn't like, to see if he will? What a waste of money.

  • You're so cool commenting on a band you don't like. Why do you bother? Why do you think people are interested in what you consider bad music?

  • you must listen to Creed?

  • yeah, they're no linkin park or insane clown posse!

  • Tomahawk.

  • yow is my hero

  • he can make some weird noises kind of sounds like hes sucking cock

  • why, was your dad in the audience?

  • i need to know names of bands similar to this.

i like big black, the jesus lizard, and scratch acid. am i missing any?

  • such a psychotic band

  • I wish I couldve seen this band live. Has anyone heard David Yow's song with the Melvins called "Dry Drunk", its a fuckin doozy

  • One of the best bands I've ever seen live. It's hilarious how you have this technically 100% superb bassist/drummer/guitarist, playing awesome stuff, and then this total bloody loon singing. Seriously though they were technically waaaaaaaaay ahead of most other bands from that era. Just listen to the bass work! It's phenomenal. And Yow was like the modern Iggy Pop.

  • FUCking Great Wild Raw Dirty Bloody Rock...

  • I was at this show, and it was awesome! It was the first time I saw them play and I was totally blown away. Incredible energy. Awesome.

  • "Bad news from team Qui. Frontman David Yow (who you might also remember from such bands as the Jesus Lizard and Scratch Acid) was hospitalized Friday evening in Pittsburgh following a show at the Andy Warhol Museum. According to Qui's publicist, Yow suffered from a collapsed lung, but is expected to make a full recovery." jan. 2008

  • I met him during the recent Qui tour at Lee's Palace Toronto; it was great to talk to the guy but he didn't look so good.

    Great show still.

  • lol a collapsed lung, how appropriate

  • The Jesus Lizard SHORT FILM

    ON MY CHANNEL

  • CHANGED CHANNEL

    The Jesus Lizard SHORT FILM

  • Legends. There is no equal.

  • whoa

  • I love this band and Scratch Acid!!!! David Yow is good in both of them!!!!

  • I LOVE THIS BAND!!!! almost as much as i love Nirvana!!!

  • You have good taste.

  • and huge balls

  • that's raw! I miss the jesus lizard

  • David Yow's now with "QUI" they're pretty great too : D

  • i love david yow!!!!!

  • Funky

  • yow is tight... look at him out iggy pop-ing henry rollins and nick cave ca. birthday party...

what the hell was that cameraman thinking? he was gonna steal the show?

  • one of the greatest guitar players ever, I dont see why anyone is complaining I think the video quality definately gets the job done

  • THANKS!

    Glad you enjoy.

Duane is great! The whole band is great.

Dude what about Mac on drums and the Dave's.

    All awesome.

  • jesus lizard are all legends to me but something about the way albini and duane made that guitar sound on the album just gets me so pumped its like a chainsaw, and of course david yow is a mad man these guys are all greats! My friend has a VHS of jesus lizard live from the 90's that might be to vague but did you have part in that too.

  • No this is the only time i ever saw or video taped the Jesus Lizard.

  • Great band, great song, great live show, really irritating camera work.

  • Not a big fan of the "Snap Zoom" myself.

You really think i'm gonna show you the good stuff.

    In stores June 5th.

    Screenings June 5th

in New York, Boston, Chicago, Seattle, Philly and Washington D.C.

  • As long as there is "good stuff" and the whole DVD doesn't look like the Wayne's World opener, we should be fine.

  • No it does not. I promise you that.

This stuff was shot in 1994.

My friends and I were only doing this for a year or two at this time.

However it was good enough for the band to use as thier first ever home video. So I am sure you would like it. Check out one of the screenings if you can. They are free except the one in Boston.

Buried in leather and Gang Green will be playing the DVD release.

  • Yow made me a boilermaker at the cha cha!

  • Dumb comments, or dumbest comments?

  • Too bad your not talented enough to have any videos to comment on.

  • It requires talent to post a video?

  • no to make a video.

    release a video.

    to have 5 star videos.

instead of just making an account so you

may view what talented people do.

  • I'm buying the video, settle down. I'm making fun of the comments, not the band or the video. Maybe that was too subtle on my part.

  • It's cool. I find it fun to field peoples inquiries.

Glad you plan on buying. Enjoy!

  • I thought it was spanish!

    Pronounced (La Hayzoos Lizardos)
