At last I get to see Graham winning his World Championship! As a teenager in the 60s I followed Grahams career in Cycling magazine. I only saw him race once at Fallowfield track where he looked magnificent in the coolest tracksuit with a stripe down the leg. His position on the bike and pedaling style were perfect. Graham I want you to know that you are not forgotten and one day I would love to shake your hand for what he did for England and for cycling. We will never see your like again.
This clip was put together by my son-in-law, Nico, and I'm pleased he put it on YouTube for you and others to see. You are one of many that see me winning a gold medal for the first time, sadly still the last time for a British male in the road race championships.
great to see the finish at long last!,as a 17yrs old junior rider i watched the race develop on uk tv during the sports programme grandstand on satrday afternoon but they broke off coverage for the football results!.
watching a fellow brummie in that break with the cream of the continent was ace, they were predicting a sprint finish with claude guyot winning but graham clipped off and left them to sprint for second!.saw him 15 yrs go at world cup time trial and talked of birmingham & belgium.
sorry,it was just wrong written we know it was at Heerlen.I am Graham's daughter and my husband is not so good in typing! But he made the clip my dad was verry happy!
I can understand that he is very happy with this clip, you can be very proud to have a worldchampion as Dad.
I live in a town next to Heerlen, and my father was there in 1967. He always talks about the great race from the professionals, because it was Eddy Merckx who won, but the Dutchman Jan Janssen was very very good that day but didn't win.
I believe he still has some pictures from the professional race but I don't know this for sure.
