  • don't believe anything Piper says until you check whether it is in line with the Bible!

  • I love how you can just feel the love of Christ in John Piper's words and tone. :) He is so accepting and is so good about making these Scriptures relative to our culture. God Bless you all! :)

  • This would be a fantastic video to share with new believers

  • how can you be not really in the vine tree but broken from it? Kind of a contradiction Piper doesn't really answer too well at all. Perhaps the Word was teaching something that doesn't sit with his 16th century spectacles....

  • @salilihabibi Judas walked with Jesus, and witnessed the miracles first hand.Betrayed Jesus even when he knew that Jesus knew he would betray him. Many go to church every week, like Judas they hear the bible, may read the bible but never show any fruit because they never fully believed and surrendered their lives to Jesus. God prunes the vine (representing the church) to protect the rest of the vine (the Church). Which are you, in Christ bearing fruit? or just in Church not bearing.

  • @Fleasfleas2 Oops! Thought you said "inconsistent". Not "consistent".

  • @Fleasfleas2 Hello! The one who truly believes in Jesus is the one who overcomes the world. There is no contradiction. Those who were justified [by faith] were glorified (Romans 8:30). May that help!

  • The depth of these "dregs of society" puts most people in churches today to shame. Fight the good fight, men of Angola! I'll see you in Heaven one day.

  • to the suicide one... pray you are not called when its cold (in your spirit)

  • I'm sorry but I don't agree with Piper in this issue. There is also plenty of verses that talk about being losing salvation... I too don't believe there is any contradiction in the Bible.

  • @JPNR like which verses?

  • @lewecca Sorry I havn't replied but I havn't seen this comment. I'm going to try and provide as many as I can but I will probably write it in my blog because it would be too long. But I will try to do this soon, what I would do is that I will send you a message when I'm done with the link so you can read it. God bless you

  • @JPNR which verses speak of losing salvation? I would be interested to know because if thats true I definitely dont want to believe what is wrong.

  • @jasonrwlock Hey, like I just said to the other person, I'm going to try and provide as many as I can but I will probably write in on my blog since is going to be too long. What I will do is send you a message as soon as I finish so that you can read it. God bless you.

  • I wish churches had this depth of understanding of scripture!

  • God Bless John Piper!

  • John Piper's ministry continues to amaze me. Going beyond, "be warmed and filled" this busy pastor takes the time to come to these men in person. I praise God that these men are getting to hear the kind of preaching in prison they never would have heard on the street. God's sovereignty in beautiful display. "Desiring God" has postage paid postcards that inmates can send in for free books. Contact them for info.

  • Brothers in confinement going harder on scripture than most people in my church! The questions were so solid and displayed men that were searching hard! Who knows what hideous and grevious things they may have done. And no one would advocate opening the doors and sending them home. But the mercy of God is, well, it's the mercy of God. (unexplainable)

"Happy are the poor in spirit"

  • @Drtruman Fully agree with your comments. If it took getting sent to prison for the rest of their physical lives to get to a place where you see your need for God, so be it. Fully agree that the quality of those questions had more depth than you'd find from most "free" people

  • @Drtruman I would advocate sending them home! But of course, only the true believers, not because of some party loyalty but because I know that Jesus truly reforms.

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." 2 Cor 5:17

  • 10:34 im referencing.

  • so to exclude anyone from coming to Christ, for whatever reason. Is wrong. "dont go to Christ to fix your family! or get a new car! or new house! or more money!" i say "yes! go to Christ, for whatever it is that draws you to him. You will learn soon enough his truth. He will wrestle with you. He will reveal himself to you as he is. And in your pleading with him, and his response, there is greater revelation of God, and a relationship is formed. Do not ever, for any reason whatsoever, exclude.

  • self preservation is not a wrong motive for coming to Christ. It is by your own peril and undueing that Christs appeal becomes so great. Because we hear of the one who makes the blind to see. And the one who makes the lame to walk. The one who can turn our darkness into day. Whatever prison you are int, spiritual, or physical. Whatever reason you come to Christ, if you are his, you will remain. and he will convert your heart of darkness. and wrong desires.

  • This is wonderful, Piper is such a humble man, and loving and caring

  • Awesome, thanx so much for this post, praise God for raising up labourers such as Mr Piper, may He raise up more.

  • we are merely pip-squeaks in relation to the way earth looks when gazing at the entire totality of the universe, right? Less than a grain of salt or a speck on a speck....In other words very little... teeny tiny... you know, SMALL that is a very good analogy to think about when you contemplate what you know... with what there IS to know

  • Wonderful video! Thanks for sharing!

  • Grace and peace to you, your channel is awsome!

  • I hate it when someone gets up and says, "That's it, or we could go on all night". Well do continue through the night if you can! And whoever wants to go to bed, let him leave! I've been in meetings that have been hugely blessed, the kind where you feel at home in the Lord's presence. And then someone cuts it off.

  • Wow this is amazinggg! I've never heard so much profound questions... EVER... in such a short time span. I especially liked the one about calvinism in around 26:30 --- Dr. Piper is talking about not being so logical that you follow a set of rules, but actually following the Bible to make sense of predestination in reference to arminianism; in other words... having a reformed "reformed theology". Sweeet stuff!

  • People need to start becoming familiar with the true saints who were martyred. Fox's Book of Martyrs is a great place to start. Tortured for Christ is another great book. There is no separate Christianity for Western Christians. All those who profess Christ as their Lord must be willing to suffer for Him and they must consider it a privilege. Anything short of that is just the flesh talking.

  • do not mix the real Saints with the fake Saints just like the people today that say theyre christians but NO evidence to GOD that theyre Christians. True Saints died happily Glorifying GOD singing "YOU'RE PURE YOUR GLORIOUS" while being burned they gave all they had to eat and ect to the poor they went through times that would make anyone depressed if the spirit of God wasn't with them, a person who commits suicide has no GOD in his life he's hopeless and depressed and faithless BUT GOD is GOOD

  • @prettyemofreak What??!! You said,"a person who committs suicide has no God in his life...". HOW DO YOU KNOW??? Only God knows what they've been through. You are wrong! Suicide is not an easy way out. You have no right, nor authority, nor truth...in saying they have "no God with them". (?!) God is "near to the broken hearted". God is MERCY. We are not the judge of eternal souls, He is.

  • @earthalien77 yes that is correct but GOD did provide us ways to know such people, many verses explain people that are Godless and such as Judas saw and believed in Jesus he never desired for the things he preached he was a money after theif who loved power. Devil understands God and knows what GOD is capable of but he doesnt stop being the devil right, My point is that every person knows that you cannot come back after death its either 2 places heaven or hell therfore you are rejecting GOD

  • @prettyemofreak ****God is merciful, and He will judge according to His mercy. A person not in their right mind will not be judged as harshly as as someone who casually commits suicide for a casual, selfish reason. God has the final word, not us. (Are you suicidal now? or have you been?)

  • @earthalien77 you are using God is merciful as an excuse to make a sin tolerable its not you are not well educated on this Jesus Christ our Lord is going to be the one to Judge and have the last word but that does not mean that you shouldnt obey his commands while here to think that he's merciful and you can get away with such a sin as suicide. I have been through poverty in the country i'm from full of depression my dad dead at 6 i have grown up to see christians murdered persecuted in my town

  • i been raised with very little to have and depression was the easiest path to take for anyone but NO ONE NO CHRISTIAN ever was depressed and commited suicide because we believed in the bible we believe that Christ was and is always with us we know and believe what the bible says "do not worry for what they will do to your flesh but what will happen to your soul" no matter the circumstances we praised and glorified him for every breath we were given and some died but i'm here in U.S alive today

  • and thankful for it my mother went through very hard years of pain and suffering to get us here and God brought us here because we believed we didnt give up nor let depression in by the devil nor give in to weaknesses from the devil "as the devil tried to temp Jesus in the olive garden to give up and not go ahead with the cross" but As Jesus didn't give up with his grace and help we didn't either a true christian dies honorably in the name sake of Jesus Christ not in the name of depression

  • @earthalien77 you can argue as much as you want about it but you do not know anything about true christianity if you actually believe suicide is a possible way out or its a okay thing to do or something you would be forgiven for but i'm sure you are a stubborn person so you will continue to argue therfore this is where i stop and leave you to yourself to argue with goodbye

  • @earthalien77 I wholeheartedly agree with you. And, thanks be to God that He has always been merciful to you and by His extravagant grace kept your life to you when you would have ended it many times. Please stay your hope in Him. For all us who are in Christ, all we know is mercy upon mercy. And we love Jesus because we have not merited this mercy. Sorry I didn't contribute to the debate, but when you mentioned how God has kept you from suicide, I cannot help but adore His wonderful providence

  • @earthalien77 it would be rejecting the blood on the cross you show that you do not care for the life you are given and that if GOD keeps you alive it isnt for nothing but for somthing, There is a reason why you are alive to spread the word of GOD, If you commit suicide knowing you cant come back you are making the biggest decision of your life would you agree and that your life has such worth that Christ died for you so you can live and yet you reject that and kill yourself showing no worth

  • @prettyemofreak *** I am NOT rejecting anything. I am stating what I know...from years of dealing with depression 7 suicidal tendencies & people with mental and emotional problems. If a person is so depressed and has mental illness or is so bombarded by torment & demonic onslaughts, they may kill themselves. There is mercy for such suffering souls.

  • @earthalien77 but we have our opinions and you can ask GOD that question when you see him if you get the chance

  • @prettyemofreak bible also explains that you will know them by theyre fruits. There are many verses that show that some fell and didn't walk in faith all theyre lives so you are wrong way wrong and extremely selfish to think scuicide murder is the way out while others are willing to suffer for Christ as he suffered for us on the cross i would say you lack in true christianity and dont have real faith and as i said before Baptist's have it way off when it comes to how to follow Christ in life

  • @prettyemofreak ***What does that mean, "if I get the chance" to see God?? What's your anger coming from? *** I am NOT advocating suicide. i have been suicidal. i have NOT done it. i am too scared to do it. I fear a possible hell, so I do not consider it. I also am aware of Jesus and his MERCY towards me.

  • I agree earthalien, prettyfreak was putting words in your mouth and taking your statements out of context. I don't know why but I'm concerned about his/her reasons.

    Thank God you're here.

  • Christ's death- his sacrifice- was God's means of justifying (forgiving, making right, and glorifying) those who believe in him. We do not have the priveledge or perrogative to judge who does, or who does not, have faith in Jesus. Scripture reminds us that even the Saints can be decieved and discouraged, become hopeless. The Bible contains entire letters that were sent to hopeless Saints, to decieved Saints. So, if Saints can become decieved and hopeless, then saints can commit suicide.

  • thats where you stop JESUS CHRIST is hope is everything and faith its all him you lose him you lost everything else faith bam hope bam you begin to have stress heartaches depression and ect. People make the mistake of salvation that once you become a Christian thats it, NO thats not true you natural conscious will tell you that that just wouldn't be fair it doesn't feel right just to believe and consider yourself a saint and commit suicide thats not from God thats not from Jesus where's it from

  • you see the thing is the 12 disciples went through more than you could ever imagine in theyre lives they suffered BAD! they at times had little to eat and gave still they went to parts of world that as a Christian you would be BEHEADED. heres the point THEY HAD CHRIST they had Jesus and they knew they were not alone that spirit of GOD is with them but anyone who is depressed and hopeless that is not a saint thats a fallen saint thats no longer a child of GOD. You cannot be a child of GOD

  • and be depressed NOT HAPPENING CANT HAPPEN i know you will argue on this but listen carefully friend, IF i know that Christ said they will hate you they will beat you they will persecute you but do not worry for i will be with you and you will not talk but the spirit will know what to say and will talk through you and so forth so where's the spirit in the so called "saint" thats depressed wheres GOD's spirit? with this person because GOD isn't. because that person has allowed devil in not Jesus

  • Martin Luther and other reformers struggled deeply with depression.

  • @blindfire4christ did they die depressed

  • Who would know the answer to this question.

  • @blindfire4christ did they commit suicide

  • My question is what is your point? I'm not following your logic, to me it sounds like your trying to argue a point. If you are i will not feed such a desire. Stay in the bible and in Christ. do not bring division please.

  • @blindfire4christ quite frankly i dont know what you are talking about we were talking about suicide and you are lost about it. If i'm talking to my fellow crhsitian brothers and sisters dont come in to try to shut anyone up dont like it leave

  • I agree with blindfire, stick with the Bible. You are talking about all kinds of way out opinions about suicide and for what good purpose can that serve?

Are you a psychologist? And if you are, you should have your license removed. What you are saying about depression/suicide is awful, kind of fanatical and illogical.

I don't mean to be disrespectful towards you. But what you're talking about is an EXTREMELY horrible & complex issue - it is nothing to play with, with baseless opinions.

  • Judas betrayed Christ but the soldiers did no different they physically wounded and pierced him and tortured him and crucified him, But Jesus said "father forgive them for they not know what they do" would you not agree that the devil was in them too? but Christ forgave them and that being said Judas would of been forgiven too but again no faith no hope he allowed the devil in to his heart till suicide death, rather repenting and asking GOD for forgiveness if he had faith he would of done that

  • but check this out if Judas betrayed Christ and Peter denied Christ that means they would all be forgiven on the cross for we know no sin has a limit to be forgiven by Christ Jesus our Lord, so now that we got that covered that means if Judas had not lived for himself selfishly and had faith in Christ and not committed suicide he would of been forgiven but he did commit suicide you must understand suicide is nothing to be forgiven its selfishness and means that you quit and reject Christ Jesus.

  • yeh i know exactly what you mean. and it makes sense. and i think Jesus ment by ''devil'' was that he was maybe bad. i dont know. but suicide is a massive issue i think.

  • How do you know what it means when someone commits suicide? Who are you to judge motivations, if you think you can judge someone's heart you are no less deluded than someone who thinks God wants them to commit suicide.

I wish you would consider that not everyone has the same mental facilities all the time. Have some humility on the topic please.

  • What most people didn't or dont know about Judas is that yet he loved Jesus he did not love him for the right intentions he actually had a different idea of who Jesus was. in those times and still now the Jews believed and believe that a Messiah will come one day and save them from romans and ect. His mental idea of Jesus was he is going to be powerful and ruler of this world, his idea of Christ was just like the idea that the pharisees had about the coming messiah. they never really understood

  • Wow. That was great. I am glad and thankful that brothers in prison are hungry and eager for God's Word.

  • I love the parable of the seeds. Many people read it but many don't really understand it.

  • This is awsome!! Grace And Peace!!

  • so not every one says theyre a christian are true christians.

  • How do you know?

  • or hope meaning they dont have hope that GOD will give them strength and ANOTHER KEY one if you are a christian doesn't that mean like the bible says that Christ is always with you by your side GOD will be with you at all times good and bad so why commit suicide no faith no hope that he's with you nor that everything is for a purpose everything again falls back down to one IDEA SELFISH, NOT A CHRISTIAN, EXACTLY LIKE JUDAS, walked with Jesus but committed suicide betrayed him.

  • i get ya. but Judas was a devil...think its John 6 v 52 maybe. the guy was placed there i believe. Suicide is an illness though. like all sin. But Jesus still forgives it. Its still horrible horrible though

  • well Judas wasn't the devil but had a heart that the devil could put his interests in there rather than allowing Jesus to put his interests in judas's heart. because Judas regreted doing what he did and it was too late but check this out if Suicide is forgiven then shouldn't judas be in heaven right now? its not forgiven i dont believe it at all and think about it dont you think GODS way of forgiving someone who's committing suicide is bring him back? isn't that what most people went thought?

  • I want to be a little bit more brief on this I apologize. People who live lives that cause them to have a life and death experience GOD brings them back for a second chance to live for him Forgives them, so Why would he just say ok everyone else stays and suffers but you yeah you even thought didn't have enough fate hope that i would take care of you and you commit suicide and ok I forgive you, because my son gave up half way on the cross and didn't finish what I told him to do? makes no sense

  • Consider though, people who commit suicide don't have normal and rational thoughts like yours. When someone is disturbed enough, they become incapable of thinking rationally - they may be psychotic and have delusions . For example, being sincerely convinced out of mental disease that suicide is the lesser of evil. They might think that God wants them to do it.

Someone who seriously considers suicide is not thinking in a rational and normal way like you are.

    Judge actions, not people.

  • No different than judas see i do believer strongly that judas would of been saved if he hadn't committed suicide just like peter denied JESUS and was forgiven and Jesus said on the cross father forgive them for they not know what they do everyone's equal in sin so even judas would of been saved but judas didn't believe and didn't have hope nor lived for Jesus and was a man of the world so therefore he was not a Christian therefore he went to hell. A person who commits suicide does not have faith

  • ok one more for Wavedelta. So many stories on how people went to hell and God brought them back to live for a purpose for him to tell theyre testimony and forth so GOD has plan for them GOD doesn't want them to be gone yet so the point is if you commit suicide and you're not coming back that means he doesn't have plans for you and the plans he did have for you while before your suicide you broke that you discredited you were selfish and lived for yourself complete rejection to Jesus Christ

  • but check this out Jesus said if you look at a woman with lust thoughts then you have committed adultery so even our thoughts count but another verse Jesus said the Father wants us to be perfect like him Jesus says so many times to be like him but Jesus is not a sinner so to be like him would mean dont sin yet sometimes we cant control our minds and thoughts but we know the truth and have common sense and we dont have to act upon sinful thoughts because we know what sin is and bad is and good is

  • wow. I was Arminian before, but after hearing Piper's handling of John 15, I'm an Arminan with conviction.

  • If You are living then you are living not because you are capable of living but Christ every second of breath you take is providing it for you if he wants you to die then he can take you but if you do it you are going against his plan and anyone to not understand the importance of that I have a hard time believing that they are a Christian.

  • so Hebrews 6:4-6 pretty much makes it clear once you are a christian and have tasted and seen the good and know what not to do and i'm going to assume common sense that 99.9% of the people on earth know that murder death and killing all that is bad. So that being so you sinning is you are crucifying Christ again in your sin So just because Christ loves you and forgives you its Pretty incredibly awful for anyone to use that as a loop hole to sin and think its all going to still be okay

  • I have a hard time believing that murdering yourself would cause you to be

    heaven bound.

I am guessing that suiciding is NOT a fast track to heaven, but is, in fact, a fast track to the core of the earth.

Suicide is nothing that should be entertained for someone who professes to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

  • yes

  • that even if you commit suicide that you will be sent to heaven because how can you be forgiven for something you did when you are dead you're no longer alive to have the chance to be forgiven even if your soul has not perished

  • at 19:00 he speaks on suicide i dont agree with piper yes your actions do not get you to heaven but by faith and following Jesus Christ. It is common sense that you commit suicide you wont come back anymore for a second chance so i'm sure even if you're not that smart GOD will put that sense into your head not to do it and if you still do it you are committing a sin by your own will and knowing you can tome back again you are making a huge sin but with knowledge not by accident so i dont agree

  • if you sin, have you fallen away from salvation?

  • it depends are you going to repent and turn to Christ and start living for him the right way Hebrews 6:4-6 4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 if they fall away,[a] to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.

  • @icuucmedmt 1 john 1: 8

if we claim to be without sin, we decieve ourselves and the truth is not in us.

  • yeah but here is the point of this sin is in us we have sinful thoughts BUT you dont have to act upon them you dont have to do the things you think about the sinful ones, which means your thoughts that can be sinful your physical life you dont have to be a sinner. Dont be misled or misunderstood Only Jesus as a GOD & being Son of GOD He wasn't born through seed of adam so he didn't sin like us he is born of GOD so we have Sinful thoughts but its what we do with them that makes us a sinner

  • As far as suicide goes I don't believe we can really judge it, but I believe it is a sin and it is not alright and obviously God would not agree with it. Remember that life and death are in God's hands, so anyone can make an opinion, but in reality no one can biblically be right on that matter, that is a judgement only God can make.

  • it is the church yes the seed is the word of GOD

  • I think "in the vine" refers to being in a church with truly regenerated believers. Perhaps there was an attempt @ fellowship, but yet there was never a true regeneration that took place, so that branch was removed & burned.

The same can be said for the passages in Hebrews 6:4-6 where certain people have "fallen away" after tasting of the goodness of God & the powers of the coming age. I believe they have experienced the Holy Spirit by simply being around those filled w/ the Holy Spirit.

  • thats kool in jail

  • The time is near massive amounts of ministries are taking place the storm is coming... prepare before its too late.

  • @BrainScanMedia So very true. It is VERY near. God's grace is sufficient, come what may.

The pretrib rapture is not a Christian's hope, but being counted as one of His beloved is.

  • Amen

  • God is good.

  • God bless John Piper for bringing the good news to these men in prison.

  • @edog5005 Awsomeness!!!!! THe Lord is glorious!!!!
