Agreed. The growls help give emotional punch to the song. Also, I prefer the raw sound of the original over the comparatively over-produced one of this version - the guitars, for example, come across much better in the original whereas this version sounds flat by comparison.
I like this version of the song a lot better, that atmospheric instrumental part where Mark normally growls sounds so much more emotional without him doing that. I don't have anything against his singing, I like it most of the time but a few songs sound better without him, another is the Epica song "Mother of Light".
This is definitely my favorite After Forever song.

I disagree. Mark's vocals gives this song the "strong & dark" part the lyrics mean.
But we all have different opinions :)

This version is definitely much better. I don't like the male vocal in the middle of the song. It ruins it.
