I've almost considered getting something like this for my bass. What would be the minimum amount of modules to get a sound out of it? I ask because since its modular other things can be added and it looks like the 'recommended' setup runs a bit over $1000. It would be nice to start less expensive then add modules progressively building?
friend of mine picked up a fairlight voice to CV and midi for dirt cheap and sold it for $800 on ebay. the technology has been around but only a handful of units were ever produced. this thing was absolutely sick. you could modulate pitch AND expression by opening and closing your mouth more or less. just plug in a reqular mic or guitar. the thing was sick and he should have kept it.

@jaikwillis This is what the Arp Avatar hoped to do (but didn't). Why did it take so long? Analogue Systems wanted to create a module that could accurately turn pitch into voltage. They spent time and resources to get the rs35 pitch to voltage module made.
There are several eurorack modules used here, so a "stand-alone" unit would be a rack with modules in it. You can read what we used in our detailed description to the right. You can also contact us if you'd like to find out more details on exactly what you would need.
There is no MIDI being used. The rs35 module changes pitch (from the guitar strings) into control voltage (1 volt per octave). This allows you to "play" a voltage-controlled oscillator with a guitar, voice, or whatever.
We were actually only using six of the modules you see in the large A.S. system. The modules were rs35 External Processor, rs95 Oscillator, rs110 Multimode Filter, rs100 Lowpass Filter, rs120 Comb Filter and rs290 Sampler/Delay module. These six modules are just over $1800. Without the (really nice) delay module the amount drops to under $1200.
is the rs35 module just a normal audio-cv converter? as the input module doepfer manufactures? tis video is really nice, i am looking forward on buying a line input-cv converter module to process guitar, vocals, bass, or any line audio source...
No, I would not use the word "normal" to describe the Analogue Systems rs35 module. It is the ONLY analog synth module that can accurately track a guitar's pitch and turn it into 1 volt per octave (CV).
If you have an analogue synth with CV and gate inputs, you could probably use that without the rs95 oscillator and rs110 filter. Please call or email us for details on exactly what you would need.
I would much rather spend 17,000 on a synthesizer than on a car; but you only get a loan to buy a car (LOL, not any more?), and only for a synth if part of a business loan (lol, not any more!); I'd spend my savings: okay, no pension, but happy now!! But start with the 1800, okay!

I might sound like a complete noob when saying this, but I'm guessing this system is monophonic? How accurate is the tracking on it?
RekkiMekki 1 year ago
@RekkiMekki Yes, it is monophonic. The tracking is perfect.

amazing. Isn't this basically what the ARP avatar was supposed to do ? Why did it take till now to make this happen?

Can this be purchased as a stand-alone unit? I've been looking for something like this to use with my Moog Gear.

Is he playing into audio input on the synth or via Midi? By midi I mean something like the roland GK series.

Fantastic! One day, I am going to spend the 17,000 bucks and I don't care!

Actually it's much less than I would have guessed for the converter itself... but all those other modules, wow... gonna have to rob a few banks lol
