Who is that clown announcer who took a shot at Dorsett? Campbell was a hard tough runner but he wasn't explosive or elusive like Dorsett. Campbell was a lazy player who let his body wear early because he didn't work out hard in the offseason. I've read that several times. Emmitt Smith he wasn't. Dorsett was a better back. Where were those great knockdown runs in two conference championship games vs the Steelers where he averaged 2 yards per carry?
@AntiSchiff No where near Campbell? He lasted alot longer then the sausage man and Dorsett finished second all time in playoff rushing yards behind Emmitt with 4.5 per carry. Campbell was a great power back but don;t belittle Dorsett. Jim was probably the greatest but is an ass if hes putting down Dorsett in anyway. Besides didn't LeRoy Kelly make the HOF behind Jim Browns line? .
Both Campbell and Sayers only had a few years of prime due to injuries, etc., so to say a guy was better just because he had a longer career is just dumb.
Bo Jackson's career was short too, so I'm sure you think Dorsett was better than Jackson. lol
@AntiSchiff I understand your argument, but how long is long enough? How short is too short?
Bo J played in 38 games-that's less than 2 and a half years
Anyone who saw Bo 'knows' he had an awesome skill set [best I ever saw at keeping his balance thru contact], but is that really enough time to place him among the greats?
Suppose a guy tears up the league for one year, 7 yards a carry then quits--can we say he was better than Sanders who averaged 'just' 5 over 10 years?
Well, I trust what I see on the field. I take the OL into account and try to look at the whole picture. I'd take Campbell, in his prime, over Dorestt any day. I'd also take Bo Jackson over Dorsett any day. I might also take Sayers over Dorsett.
On the other hand, I'd take Dorsett over Emmit Smith, because Smith never impressed me much, even though I'm a Gator. He had the best run blocking OL that I've ever seen.
I don't think Jim Brown was disrespecting Dorsett, he was just pointing out the fact that Earl was an entirely different animal when it came to tackling technique. You'd better be wearing your big-boy pants if you wanted to take on Earl Campbell.
@lonestarjwells lol Earl was a big boy. As big as a linebacker and he could run. Yes,Dorsett was a different type back. I read that Campbell wasn't a hard worker off the field. Imagine if he was? He would've lasted longer and been in the top 10 in rushing alltime. Great back. .
@dallas5sb That clown announcer was just Jim Brown. One of the greatest running backs of all time. I would think he might know a little more about a runners abilities than you. Tony Dorsett was a fine rb who could be ellusive but he was not as good as Earl. Look up all the awards Earl earned in 78,79,80 and then look up Tony Dorsetts lone award of 77 rookie of year. A
@klinester5 what did Earl Campbell average in the playoffs? Try 3 yds per carry. Its amazing that Dorsett is rated one of the top backs in ncaa history but as a Dallas Cowboy, hes clearly not the one of these guys? lol Emmitt wasn't fast? Was Dorsett? Both are Cowboys?. "He had great players around him?" , everyone says but no one says Rice had Montana or Young and vice versa? Dorsett is the all time second best rb in playoff history in yards behind Emmitt. But that don't mean nothing? lol
Okay... not only is this one of the most INCREDIBLE runs in the history of the NFL, but none other than Jim Brown, arguably the greatest rusher of all time, was the one in the booth going nuts. Think about it. That would be like having Dr. J delivering commentary during Jordan's incredible acrobatic layup against the Lakers in 1991. Just incredible hearing the excitement in Brown's voice, one Hall of Famer witnessing the birth of another.
I knew that play but can someone tells me what is the word that one of the commentators is screaming twice ? I m laughing so hard. The play is way better with the original comments.
he was off balance when charged too.

If you can get Jim Brown excited about a power-run, you've done something.

Earl inhaled too many sausages to stay in the league as long as he should have.

Look stupid, Campbell had a very short prime in his career, but his prime was but than Dorsett's.
Look at the numbers, moron:
pro-football-reference com/players/D/DorsTo00.htm
pro-football-reference com/players/C/CampEa00.htm
Campbell was nearly a 2000 yard rusher in 1980, averaging 5.1/carry. That's better than any season Dorsett ever had.
By your stupid standards, Dorsett was better than Sayers too.

@dallas5sb ''Where were those great knockdown runs in two conference championship games vs the Steelers where he averaged 2 yards per carry''
Two words: freezing rain
Three more: Three Rivers turf
Dorsett is an under-rated back, but for five years, Campbell was BEAST
first three season led the league in rushing, 1400+, 1600+, 1900+
Dorsett never led the league, tho he did rush for 1600+ in 81
Dorsett 1000yd years=8
Earl=5
not a huge dif
pick any 5 Dorsett years, Earl beats him

The Rams won this game 10-6 back in 1978, which was Earl Campbell's Rookie Season at Houston. Back in the days of the Tear Away Jerseys.

I wish they still allowed the tearaway jerseys, especially in NCAA.
