  • the point is that these were not the prohibited the ones. prohibited ones never even got composed in the first place.

  • Well, yes, but I think she's getting at the fact that these *would have* been prohibited works as opera, but they weren't because they were oratorio - and they are so operatic in style, but it is for sure a misleading title. I think that perhaps it's suggesting more the era and not the music - a time were operatic works were prohibited.

  • they were not prohibited by the Vatican, rather they were composed while the vatican prohibited opera. So it was like opera substitute. At least that's what i understand.

  • Yeah, you're right. They're not really "opera"...but, it's in the style of opera.

However, opera can also be the plural of opus, or "works"...so it could also refer to "prohibited works" that were quite operatic in character. So in a sense it's a pretty clever title, if perhaps misleading at first.

  • I love how much energy she has.

  • Yes - she is such a vibrant person and it's astounding how energetically she sings, especially in this demanding Baroque repertoire. It's one of the reasons why she's such a magnetic star in the opera world!

  • She is so unbelievably lovely and down-to-earth sounding! Love her infinity.

  • Yes, for sure! She's so real and un-diva-ish; she's definitely the right kind of person to be in the spotlight!

  • she rules!

  • Definitely!!

  • totally love her!

  • Ah, me too! She's amazing!!

  • her trills always get me

  • Me too....

  • im glad

  • If she wasn't singing, I don't what I would do! She's so unique and wonderful...

  • mi lascia sempre col fiato mozzato !

    una diva vera e propria!!!!

  • Vai Ceci................

  • I just love how she starts to duet with the woodwind instruments playing along. Gosh she so amazing.

  • Yeah, it's just splendid!

  • Thank you so much for posting this - I missed the original broadcast. Cecilia is my salvation.

  • No problem! I agree - Cecilia Bartoli is quite an amazing singer.
