sounds very nice.. r u running cat conv. and fully emissioned? check out my lil 87 on poopcylinder , it was under bucketloader. there r a few vids of it floating around. mine is set for speed. , had to decam a bit was way to much on launch when i didnt set drag bars for flex. almost flipped..:)

i need help i have heard that the older jeeps, like 85 to 92 have a hard time in the mountains. like they have lost a lot of power because the air is so thin. can anybody help me out if this is true or not?? im trying to get a jeep and plan on taking it to the mountains but dont want one that wont have the power it normally would have. and info is greatly appreciate :) thanks

@thelittlebsl u will have to advance the timing with the distributor a few degrees ... its bc of the altitude :)

@pamprinfan99 - To answer a few of the past questions - tranny is a TF727 (torque flite). engine, tranny, and transfer case came from a '90 Grand Wagoneer at the junk jard for $700. Ran great, as is. Probably spend about $300 more for the basic swap...engine mounts, tranny mounts, and misc small parts. Engine is strong but isn't geared for speed. It is great for setting off tuner car alarms.

@whampton3: i just bought a 90 YJ and its running great, my exhaust sounds almost like yours...only problem is i'm having a hell of a goddamn time with the soft top..ordered one on ebay store for like $250 and now it seems like its the wrong one! it came with the windows for halfdoors, but i got full doors...anyhow, i wish i had somebody to give me some advice for this top...its gonna rain soon and i only got half of it on...shit.

judging by the rollbar I would say 1987 to 1991 as the 1992 to 1995 have a more squared off roll bar to better protect rear passengers.

Stock was the 4 banger. Sounded like it had about 3 left.

@whampton3 haha.....I drove one of those once, a '91 that was pieced together. 4 banger with a 5 speed, the engine could barely get out of its own way...the only thing that really saved it it and got it going was the 4:88 gears in the back. drop it in 4 low and the thing literally jumped when you let the clutch out. Looking at it I'd say the transmission could definitely beat up the engine if they ever fought. The tranny literally took up almost the entire underside of the jeep.

Thanks. It turned a lot of heads and always set off those sensitve car alarms. With the right parts and mods, you can lift away. Never made it to the suspension, though. Started saving for CJ5 project. The YJ was just for practice.

I prefer jeeps myself but it's all about what makes you happy. You gotta be dedicated to a jeep through rainy days, speedometers that are off, oil leaks...ahhh, that's a real jeep. Drive what makes you happy.
