Hard to believe the bikes are that identical in quarter mile times but that's just one run with one set of riders, right? The Diavel is probably more of an all 'round performer than the quicker VMax maybe? Both bikes are kind of hard on the eyes IMO. Just kind of clumsy-looking compared to a streetfighter or sportbike style but I guess they are not so bad to ride.
I don't partake into the fanboy world; I, unfortunately have to put up with enough of it from the Canon-Nikon, and Mac-Windows supporters that look down on anything outside of their choices. A victory is a victory no matter by how much, so congrats to the Vmax on THIS RACE. Which is the better bike is a matter of preference, but not only that. Doing more with less is also a factor. I will always recognize the Vmax, but I will stick with the Ducati.
Secondo me, la Diavel è meglio, anche perchè pur avendo 38 cv e 85 kg di peso in meno, riesce a fare 0,208 millesimi di sec in +, che è veramente pochissimo. E' cmq, peso e design sono nettamente a favore della Diavel, STUPENDA.

Ha ha ha! All you ppl are so funny! get the bike you like... ( if you can afford one..) Most ppl are more brand interested than performance, some like style, some like the lack of styling. I own 2 bikes and i ride a lot and far, that´s what bikes are about to me, to some it´s just color, bling or brand. Horse power alone do not make a winner, you actually need brakes and directional control at high speeds as well...so u figure out what bike you need and go ride it. Two wheels is the shit!!!!
Have a 2010 Vmax,one awesome bike have had no one able to run with me! By the way I have been riding since I was 14 and I'am now 62 have had many bikes over the years and have to say the Vmax is one of the very best!!
A tenth of a second is hardly "smoking" him... That is so close that the rider wouldn't be able to tell the difference, and riding experience it what it is all about. They are both brain-meltingly fast. And if you put them on a track with curves, then you'd see some "smoking" as the Ducati left the V-Max eating its dust. Both great ground-breaking bikes, take your pick based on what suits you... But crowing over a hair's breadth victory on a dragstrip is just silly.
The Max had a colder hoop upon a poor launch with the riders right leg not on the peg with the more undulating side of the strip with the riders control swerving the Max at the same time.Credit to the Diavel though.I had a Max for 11 years but wouldn't swap my Moto Morini Corsaro Veloce for either.As it sits nicely in between a Diavel and a Streetfighter.
It's a shame really. These people go through the trouble of putting these beautiful machine's on display for us all, and some punk has to go and goat people into a pissing match. just to prove how dumb and fake the are. shame.....

Even though the Ducati lost, it lost by a hair of a second. If you take into account that the Ducati is missing several hundred cubic centimeters compared to the Yamaha, it's quite amazing, and obviously the bike to go with.
I don't care if that Yam beat the Duck by 2 seconds. It's still not a Duck. Gimme a Ducati over that piece of crap Yamaha any day. Yamaha should stick to making mid grade speakers. :)
If you look at the time difference between the two bikes and the speeds, its only by a very small margin. This is really not a good test to to tell which bike is better for there is soo many factors into play for one drag race. One of the riders could of got a split-second better start at letting the clutch out with the right amount of gas, the pavement on one side could of favored more to the bikes speed than the other, how the rider shifts.....
The yamaha engine is significantly larger I would hope that means something in terms of power. I would still choose the Ducati though. The VMax is ugly.

Doesn't really matter who won, if the posted times are legit .2 of a second isn't gigantic. It could simply be even a gearing issue. I'd say that most likely, they are evenly matched.
Duc won by a long shot. Freeze the video at 1:28 and it's obvious who is furthest down the track. Heck, the duc had it before they zoomed in on the vmax because you catch a glimpse of the duc on the left hand side.

You forget that the V-max is handicapped by an electronic speed limiter that will not allow it to go past 137mph. With close to 200hp the V-max could easily have an et of 140-145mph at the end. Plus to get a proper indication of the two bikes you need to put the same rider at the same time of day and on the same lane to get a more accurate idea of the difference between the two bikes. There could have been a difference in skill level between the two riders.
There will always be doubt in my mind as to who won. And until the race is done over with time clocks visible and a camera at the finish line, I will continue to believe the race was staged period!

Theorotically, one could sit at the starting line with the tree green for 10 seconds while the other guy has already crossed the finish line, launch and run a better Elapsed time and Mph, h'ed have a sucky reaction time of ten seconds though!

Not to mention that the Yamaha V-Max smoked his tire out the gate to the point of almost getting sideways. The lines (paint bars) on the track don't lie. @vtajoe1 Your logic would only apply if the camera position was equally spaced between both bikes and high enough off the ground to have a clear view of the road. As it is, the camera is closer to the V-Max, making the Ducati looks as if it's further down the track than the Yamaha and the racing surface is not perfectly flat so parts of it are obscured from view.

Sad to point out that an Italian 1198cc V-twin is less than 0.1s from the "mighty" 4-cylinder "pure muscle bike" 1700cc V-Max. Heading down to the dealer to put down my deposit on a new Diavel this saturday...
Top clip. What a production! Sure the contents are controversial, but that's the beauty of motorcycle rivalry and it will NEVER be settled. Ultimately this is a very well made and entertaining clip and I'm glad it's there for us to see. Youtube is a better place with this clip.

Calculating how much HP, Torque and weight they have you will get a nice result : The Diavel is a bit more powerful. The tires are the original one, and the one that the ducati has is wider, with a larger surface of contact, resulting in a better traction.

Not good ET's...... My Kawa C14 sport tourer that weighs 700#'s did a 10.8 @129mph. with me on it after 7 passes, never dragged a bike in my life. I would have thought these bikes would be low 10's with an average rider? High 9's with a good one. I don't think either of these guys could do that though.
I used to run 1/4 and 1/8 mile drag racing, it takes a lot of runs to get used to a bike and then post an enviable time like these. Ignore the punters, they know nothing. Thx for the time and effort made in making the video and sharing it. Having seen both bikes in the flesh I'd buy the Ducati. 1. it's a Ducati. 2. It's cheaper than the Yamaha. 3. I can't understand the incredible price increase on the Yamaha when the original was so competitively priced and prettier never mind the Ducati.
Incredible machines. Im going to get myself a new bike come Nov/Dec (a combined birthday/x-mas present to myself) and I was looking at the VMax, but then the Diavel Carbon came out. Damn. In a straight line the Vmax is a monster, but in a straight line and the curves the Diavel is the better machine. Plus, after about 100 miles (70 if you ride it hard) the Max needs to be refueled. I personally think the Vmax is a great looking bike, but the Diavel looks great too.
This test is like comparing a lambo and a ferrari, it's pretty much meaningless. In a drag race I'm sure the V-max will win because it has a higher top speed. At the track or in the bends the ducati wins because its lighter, and accelerates faster. So its pretty much down to looks and for me the ducati is way better looking, the v-max is and always has been one of the ugliest things ever created. I say the diavel is the baddest bike ever. I'm sure v-max fans would disagree, but I dont care

Power to weight ratio can tell you one thing, but power to areo drag ratio is quite another. A third gear roll on would be intresting to test also.

Its an amazing bike and the bikes are so closely matched it really will come down the rider and the tolerances of the bike they are on. The V-max is getting to be a dinosaur now though.

Si tu as une meule d'origine capable de prendre plus de 300 comme un Hayabusa tu sera comme un flan sur le 1/4, comme un flan que dis je tu seras minable.
La V max est une moto super mais faut arreter de prendre les gens pour des idiots, c est une moto archi dépassée et 300kgs, le pilote de la diavel a oublié de tourner la poignée.... ya plein de bécane vachement plus rapide......
It surprised me when it lit up on the Vmax side. It looks to be ahead the whole race including the end. But there so close in performance it comes down to the riders.

You forget that the V-max is handicapped by an electronic speed limiter that will not allow it to go past 137mph. With close to 200hp the V-max could easily have an et of 140-145mph at the end. Plus to get a proper indication of the two bikes you need to put the same rider at the same time of day and on the same lane to get a more accurate idea of the difference between the two bikes. There could have been a difference in skill level between the two riders.

Wow, some people don't understand drag racing. yes, it appears the other rider is ahead, but that doesn't mean he had a better Elapsed Time or MPH> the clock starts independently for both riders once they break the beam. Theorotically, one could sit at the starting line with the tree green for 10 seconds while the other guy has already crossed the finish line, launch and run a better Elapsed time and Mph, h'ed have a sucky reaction time of ten seconds though!

Off the shelf these bike are in a class of their own. Vmwx = heavy. Diavel is light.. POWER + Weight x BHP
Vmaxius 2 a restricted bike. Mod that bike 2 its potentail 300bhp. & take that 2 the strip.

If you look...and have good depth perception tou can see that the bike on left (Ducati Diavel) is the winner. Not to mention that the Yamaha V-Max smoked his tire out the gate to the point of almost getting sideways. The lines (paint bars) on the track don't lie. You can see who's winning...Just another V-max promo video gone bad.

The best performance of our professional testers are (ET in 1/4 mile): Diavel 10"729 (211,0 km/h), V Max 10"521 ( 213,6 km/h). In the video the times are: Diavel 11"081 (211,0 km/h), V Max 10"996 ( 212,1 km/h). Same result.

@vtajoe1 Your logic would only apply if the camera position was equally spaced between both bikes and high enough off the ground to have a clear view of the road. As it is, the camera is closer to the V-Max, making the Ducati looks as if it's further down the track than the Yamaha and the racing surface is not perfectly flat so parts of it are obscured from view.

It is not true... if you analize the video you can see that the Ducati is ahead.
They don`t even show the time panel...
Calculating how much HP, Torque and weight they have you will get a nice result : The Diavel is a bit more powerful. The tires are the original one, and the one that the ducati has is wider, with a larger surface of contact, resulting in a better traction.
@Super Wheels : Next time do some real tests and show the real results. This one is fake.

Not good ET's...... My Kawa C14 sport tourer that weighs 700#'s did a 10.8 @129mph. with me on it after 7 passes, never dragged a bike in my life. I would have thought these bikes would be low 10's with an average rider? High 9's with a good one. I don't think either of these guys could do that though.

I used to run 1/4 and 1/8 mile drag racing, it takes a lot of runs to get used to a bike and then post an enviable time like these. Ignore the punters, they know nothing. Thx for the time and effort made in making the video and sharing it. Having seen both bikes in the flesh I'd buy the Ducati. 1. it's a Ducati. 2. It's cheaper than the Yamaha. 3. I can't understand the incredible price increase on the Yamaha when the original was so competitively priced and prettier never mind the Ducati.

Incredible machines. Im going to get myself a new bike come Nov/Dec (a combined birthday/x-mas present to myself) and I was looking at the VMax, but then the Diavel Carbon came out. Damn. In a straight line the Vmax is a monster, but in a straight line and the curves the Diavel is the better machine. Plus, after about 100 miles (70 if you ride it hard) the Max needs to be refueled. I personally think the Vmax is a great looking bike, but the Diavel looks great too.

This test is like comparing a lambo and a ferrari, it's pretty much meaningless. In a drag race I'm sure the V-max will win because it has a higher top speed. At the track or in the bends the ducati wins because its lighter, and accelerates faster. So its pretty much down to looks and for me the ducati is way better looking, the v-max is and always has been one of the ugliest things ever created. I say the diavel is the baddest bike ever. I'm sure v-max fans would disagree, but I dont care

It looks like youall had some fun, which is what bikes are all about. since it wasn't the definative scientific evaluation I won't treat it as such, not frankly, do I even give a shit, So it's the perfect shoot out for someone who's not intrested in having the absolute snarfiest image rocket produced. Power to weight ratio can tell you one thing, but power to areo drag ratio is quite another. A third gear roll on would be intresting to test also.

You come off more like a Vmax fan then someone offering a good comparison. How about best of 10 runs filmed start to finish rather then your creative editing? Its an amazing bike and the bikes are so closely matched it really will come down the rider and the tolerances of the bike they are on. The V-max is getting to be a dinosaur now though.

Denex tu ne semble rien avoir compris au 1/4 miles.
Tu peux bien avoir une moto qui roule à 300 km/h face à un 1700 Vmax qui est quasi limité à 230 forcément sur un ligne droit d'autoroute tu le remonte et le dépasse... par contre sur le run tu ne fais pas un pli.
Si tu as une meule d'origine capable de prendre plus de 300 comme un Hayabusa tu sera comme un flan sur le 1/4, comme un flan que dis je tu seras minable.
Oupssss j'oubliais, je n'ai pas de 1700 vmax...
