NJ teachers get tenure and work typically ten out of twelve months. They get holidays off, snow days, sick leave, excellent benefits and retirement packages few others can match. So, yeah, by NJ standards, that makes them "privileged". It also used to be said by many who taught, that it was a privilege to teach. So, again, yes.. On both counts the Gov was right.

To compare: small business CEOs aren't guaranteed a job, nor days off, nor even a profit sometimes..

I am a teacher and I would certainly not consider myself "privileged". Anyone who agrees with Christie can come spend a day with me...your head will probably spin-off. Until you are a teacher, you have no idea what it is like. Try not being able to use the bathroom when you need to, or try being trapped in a room with 30 adolescents when it is 98 degrees out with no air conditioning and you can't open the windows because there are no screens and a student in your class is allergic to bees!

Their Contract is negotiated between two parties, then it is ratified and finally voted on. The Benefits they recieve throught those negotiations are part of a 3 tier Economic Package. Those benefits are not FREE. The teachers earn those benefits everyday of the week... THEY EARN THEM.

The purpose of schools is to educate. Sports is very expensive. And teachers are pretty pampered, they have more extensive benefits. Forget lacrosse, how can a broke town afford it? Trying to level the playing field too hard creates its own problems, such as higher and higher taxes.

NJ will have to cut all the fat, and christie, although fat himself, is the one to do it
