  • Red Baron's last word was "kaput"

  • it's always awesome to see the Fokker Tripplane

  • I see this movie in both lenguages, english and german, and I recomended than see it in german, is far more more epic lenguage than english, and, after all, Richthoffen is a german war hero, and the history related here is an german history, for respect is necessary to see in german lenguage, to see in english see Brave Heart or other like that

  • is this movie English or german ?

  • @kokkobongohead is an english movie, but traslated to german lenguage

  • Deutsch lässt lieber als Englisch erklingen und Ich mag die deutsche Version besser

  • This is why China, Russia, the USA, and the rest of the nations need to talk more and try to find common ground before in this machine age we kill each other off. Von Richthofen and the other brave lads will forever be heroes to me. But I sure would like to help create a world where it would never happen again. How about more love and more dialogue, and less contention? Learn to love and show respect.

  • The Red Baron was killed at 11 a.m. on April 21, 1918 ... before the NAZIS. He did not fly with Goering either, even though all the movies try to make it look that way. The Baron, Boelcke and many others were gentlemen. They visited wounded "enemies" in the hospital and they had real feelings. Okay, they killed people, but that is what happens in wartime, which is all the more reason to work for genuine world peace.

  • There are so many things to like about this movie, including the stunning performances of Lena Headey, Mathias Schweighofer and Til Schweiger. I also liked the guys who played the other pilots, the Kaiser, von Hindenburg and von Hoeppner. The air scenes were cool and I just thought they personalized the man and made him real flesh and blood ... you know ... like the rest of us. Thank you for making this movie.

  • How can I purchase a movie poster for my law office from this wonderful movie?

  • This movie needs to be picked up by Showtime or HBO and played for a wide audience. It is a great movie.

  • Let's lobby to get this movie on HBO or Showtime by spring, 2011.

  • Ja, ich sprechen ein bisschen Deutstch.

  • Manfred von Richthofen war ein Held und ein wahrer Gentleman.

  • Germany lost the war in the air, just as it lost the war on land and at sea. So I can't see that they were so great. Both sides entered WWI with air forces and even this movie shows that the Germans used British engines when they could get the chance, so I'm not sure if the Germans were all that pioneering or technologically savvy. This movie makes Richthofen out to be a gentleman, which is a stretch, even when compared to the conduct of the Germans in both wars.

  • Um grande As, Caçador e Cavalheiro.

  • Joseph Fiennes... isn't that the guy from Enemies at the Gates?

  • 德國空軍出擊,飛翔吧!我德意志的雄鷹!把那些罪有應得的英法聯軍全部殺光!

  • I thot he flew Tri-Fokker,no?

  • @gestafalus

He did fly the Fokker Dr.1 but before the Dr.1 was produced, he flew the Albatros D.III

    ;)

  • Manfred v. Richthofen was THE man in WW1. A hero for his fellow soldiers and a feared and respected enemy for the allies.

Germany had THE best Airplanes during the whole war. The started with the idea of putting planes, which was a brand new thing, into war. First they developed Albatros I, then II and finally III. For each "I" a new pair of wings were added. So the III had six wings, three on each side. Everytime a new pair of wings were added, the British copied that style.

  • schweighöfer und schweiger ruinieren den ganzen film!!!!

  • Is this dubbed to English or vise versa?

  • Comment removed

  • @federicopanzer Sprechen sie auch deutsch???

  • yo daria lo que fuera por tener la oportunidad de haber volado junto con Richthofen

  • Perfeito filme! Seria mais perfeito se fosse em alemão. Na qual não há língua igual. Parabéns.

  • Its a good film, but i wish it was in German, it sounds so underwhelming in english (and im an english person)

  • The man was truly a legend in the Aviation world. What ever his true takes on the war were i do not know but he is a man to be respected and admired for being the ultimate height of excellence in his trade. Man you rest in peace Manfred von Richthofen.

  • Sie sollten deutsch sprechen...denn der Film über Deutschen ist

  • Hugo Stiglitz is Werner Voss LOL

  • ARGHHHHHHHH!!!

Why the bloody hell must it be in the english language???

...Other than than looks like a REALLY good film (as anything German usually is )

  • @sofiedasdeutscher If its german made, why would they film it in English? I dislike listening to british people put on german accents. Es gefallt mir nicht sehr gern!

  • @Ralroost

It should have been filmed in german and dubbed in englisch.

  • Had this been an American Production, they would have had a Woman as the Combat Pilot and the Man as a sissified male Nurse

    Just going by past experience

  • I guess ameicans didn't have aviation in WW1.

  • Billy Bishop would have shot down more if it weren't for his country taking him out for being a colonial figure for propaganda. Billy Bishop even survived a fight vs the Red Baron, he even killed two enemy planes in the process. Still, the Red Baron is an interesting fighter pilot! I wanna see this!

  • I have a similar opinion from Pearl Harbor movie. Fictional lovestory.

Titanic + Memphis Belle = Pearl Harbor

  • Shot Down by an Australian...

  • @mitchtickler

actually, modern studies have determined that he was shot down by infantry FLAK

  • The Red Baron acutally shoot down 80 enemy planes and was the best pilot in WWI

  • 88 nemys

  • 80 were confirmed.

He claimed to have shot down 100+ and probably did.

  • soo...when is this coming to america??

  • That's World War II offcourse, but in World War I the Germans were the fastest, with their triple wing planes and were the first with automatic guns mounted in the nose of the plane

  • Comment removed

  • The Germans were the founders of the first Jet engine, and had better overall cockpit indicators, like ammo percentage-indicators before the Alies had such things installed, , but it's true, that the Spitfire for example outran the bf-109 (best known Messerschmidt), and could make much better turns before stalling, so don't say to easy "german's aren't known for their fighters", because the Allies could'nt wait to get their hands on German propulsion-technology

  • "germans aren't know for their fighters. that's why they worked on rockets. so that they don't have to fly during world war 2."

And then why is a german pilot the best ace of all times? "Erich Hartmann - top ace of all time"

  • This looks like an excellent film about an excellent flier. Anyone know if it has English dubbing or subtitles?

  • this is a german movie.. this is about a german pioet who shot a large number of enemy planes during the WWII

  • The Red Baron was killed in action in April 1918. He never lived to see World War II.

  • @kingstowngalway the luftwaffe would;ve been more deadly in his hands then in fat Goering's

  • @Lukeclout yaaaaah man, I agree you !!! wow, for some time didn't read something so true, what would have happened if the Luftwaffe had been directed by this man instead of another vicious fat man? Perhaps england would have fallen, and invaded, imagine Richtofen, Rommel and other equal in the second war, hehehe perhaps would have won the 2ww, you know, air power is terrible, well, well said, dude

  • @carloko08 Germans had the best pilots, best planes at that time. (NOTE saying that I have to also pay my repects to the RAF and USAAF, as well as the Spitfire and Mustangs) but still the Germans were the first to employ jets and the BF-109 is a marvelous fighter also flown my pilots with hundreds of kills. The only downfall they had was bad strategic commanders and worse inter-army battle cordinations. It is considered one strategic flaw that made the germans lost.

  • @kingstowngalway thank god he didnt become a nazi asshole

  • Richthofen and the Flying Circus FTW!

  • That will be a sweet movie, because The USA did not make it. I think there should be a German version of Operation Valkaryie

  • GOOD GOD! this looks awesome!

  • If this is a German movie, then why is it in English and dubbed over in German. It was released in Germany and it was dubbed over. They were clearly speaking english

  • Afaik the stage crew etc. were not german and the movie was produced for the international market. So they simply recorded it in english and then had the actors themselves dubbing it. So it´s pretty much the best of both worlds. :)

  • When does it come out in the States, I'm out in New York until January and I haven't heard anything.

  • No idea. Try google perhaps? i´ve seen it here in Germany.

  • I can't wait to see this film, the Richthoven was my personal hero, when I was a kid, and continues to be. He is the pesonification of honor, bravery, skill, and sacrifice. Anybody know when it will be released in the states?

  • Germany always had the best airplanes and pilots!

  • @Jannemnn81 yes, Red Baron, Werner Voss and in ww2 Erik Hartman...Germany always produced the best pilots in any war they participated. No wonder they also produced Schumacher and now Vettel!

  • What is the tune from 1.00 to about 1.30 called?

  • Last word. It was Kaputt. Which meaned Finished in german. The bullet was a 303 Calibur. Baron Manfred von Richthofen 2 May 1892 -- 21 April 1918

  • The Red Baron was a PRUSSIAN pilot for W.W.1. Prussia was an empire consisting of Germany, Belgium,Poland, and Russia. After W.W.1 they split. The Red Baron was counted for 86 kills and probably killed about 594 people in his whole carrer. The day before the Baron died he was shot in the head and barley missed his brain. The next day he said he was ok to fly. The baron was chasing a french plane down when he went into enimey lines and was shot in the chest by an A.A. gun. He landed and said his

  • your a ignorant lmao Belgium / Russia wasnt part of Prussia lol

  • Parts of Belgium and Poland and modern-day Russia were indeed parts of Prussia. Mostly because the Germans needed more room to live. We pushed the inhabitants further east.

  • I love the authenticity...Jospeh Fiennes plays Capt. Roy Brown, the dodgy Canadian, credited with shooting down the Red Baron...If this were an American production they would have definetly substituted a token yank to do the job ( a la Tom Cruise or some other jerk off)

  • If it were an American production, they would have put in a token black man as being the reason for the Red Baron being shot down.

  • LOl!

  • Thank the lord above USA didn't do it for these very reasons!! Yuck, Tom Cruise or Nicolas Cage would destory it. I don't like the love interest either. He died so young, maybe later on he would've got married. Also, he was a good hunter but didn't like to eat meat. I emailed WB to find out if the movie was coming to the USA but no answer. I'm waiting for my PB copy of his bio.

  • Yeah..most sure way to destroy some Hollywood movie today is to use Tom Cruise or Nicolas Cage as one of main actors. I agree completely. There is something wrong in Hollywood today. They are still using actors who had their best days on 80´s (Tom Cruise for example). Nicholas Cage then practically destroys every movie where he is acting (he over acts a little bit). I agree that imagination fictional love story is little ridiculous. Richthofen did not have girlfriends.

  • I just finished his auto-bio. Very short...so sad he died so young. He might've married later on. He had no time for girls even though they sure seemed to like him. He was quite dashing and handsome. He just wanted to fly and be the best, and only to bring down the planes, not kill them outright. One thing for sure, his friends and family loved him and he seemed to have a postive attitude. I like how he describes things when he flew.

  • @zinkcoo hahaha, yeah, man, you are right, but I said if it were an american production, they would have put a token dammit woman like the hunter of Red Baron, the needed for included the damm woman in everything is so terrible than they will be capable to do this, and, if it were an California production, a fucking faggot were the killer of Red Baron, hahahaha, like you see, yankis made things for every kind of people, hahaha, greetings

  • looks really good if not better than fly boys! and the music in the backround is from the game brothers in arms !! cant wait for this film.

  • i dont like how they portrayed Richthofen as a lover. If you read the book "To the Last Man", you will see that he was actually a VERY shy man.

  • But that book was fictional though wasn't it????

  • This seem to be the same over-data-animated crap as Flyboys with very unrealistic flight scenes. Beside that the real Manfred von Richthofen never shown an open interrest for girls so this is a faked history.

  • This movie is just a good example of movie made by those who lost their past and live in historical amnesia.real tragedy indeed!

. If you want to make a movie about a world war pilot who tries to be the best, then tell us, how he does it. And not in the main case, how he tries to win a nurse's heart!

  • and..who cares that those old planes have a speed like they have to battle the death star in Star Wars.

  • thank u for explaining

    Lena Headey is actually British

    shes gorgeuos too

    love her

  • please can somebody say me the name of the song which played by 0:56, it is important ^^

  • can somebody say me the name of the song which played by 0:56 (sorry for my bad english)

  • It appears that this film was made in English for the world wide market and dubbed in German for release in Germany. However all the main actors are from Germany.

  • Finally, after 60 years, Germany celebrates his military heroes again and that the german folk starts to make a peace with its past. Now I wait othermovies about Frederick the Great and the unification of Germany :)

  • That was supposed to be a joke, right?

  • @rainlover: it is translatet, the original one is in english (but it is a german production)

Yeah the planes are very beautiful, the 3D Studio which has made them is very cool. I had the honor to made a stage by pixomondo (Pixomondo is the 3D Studio which has made the Planes and animations) Wooouuah, thats very cool. :)

  • Yes, quite good work but there are still some mistakes with the 3D within the movie. The last scene of this trailer for example, the showed formation of Fokkers and Albatrosses the planes is a little bit too tight. One or two wingspan as distance between each plane were normal.

  • But in comparison to "Flyboys" this movie is much more historic accurate. Ok, a "meeting" between Brown and MvR...thats quite..."funny" would be the right word. And these Handley Page bombers were flying too low, normal would be at 9.000ft+.

But I was impressed how much is CONSISTENT!!! Destroying a balloon with a flare, lots of markings...

  • Yes, quite good work but there are still some mistakes with the 3D within the movie. The last scene of this trailer for example, the showed formation of Fokkers and Albatrosses the planes is a little bit too tight. One or two wingspan as distance between each plane were normal.

  • are they actually speaking german or is it translated

  • It appears that this film was made in English for the world wide market and dubbed in German for release in Germany. However all the main actors are from Germany.

  • Lethkul, you said it is too commericial because of the fictional love story. Yeah, that is true although I perceive the intent of adding some fiction to Baron Richthofen's history is to reveal a little humanity in him, in order to show his weaknesses in contrast to his bravest feats that made him a legendary war figure.

  • Alas, this looks more like ahistorical trite than anything.

  • Well, at least the trailer does. With some luck the movie is going to be better.

  • what does ahistorical mean

  • its just one more novel, its a pitty that they used the image of the red baron

  • Thats a personal marking, not official, perhaps the pilot was Jewish or had some Jewish connection

  • The criticism in Germany is bad. They don´t want war "heros". I think, the film will be more a hit in the other countries, mostly in US. There becomes the film an Oscar...

  • I've seen WWI replica planes at a museum. To me, they are very beautiful. It's incredible that they were made of wood and linen. Technology in those days was on much more of a human scale. Today all you see are huge metal monstrosities. That was truly the golden age of aviation.

  • i wish i could understan german

well lena is gorgeous in this movie as she is in any other

Peter.

  • it was made in english to get more success[...]

  • Why wasn't it made in german? It's ridiculous!

  • is it just me or do i see the jewish star on the side of that plane 0:18

  • Yes, it is indeed the star of david on that plane. They added a jewish fighter pilot to vRs sqadron so the Rittmeister could defy antisemitism and grieve his unjust death. There were indeed jewish aces in the WWI german air service but none ever flew with vR.

  • Where can this be found in the official record?

  • I don't have access to the official German Imperial Army rosters, but there is a book that came out in the 20s - "Jewish Fliers in the World War" that tells their story. The two most prominent jewish-german pilots were probably Fritz Beckhardt who decorated his plane with a swastika, and the "world's first night fighter", 20-victory ace Wilhelm Frankl.

  • I was just wondered to see this star of David on an Albatros from Jasta 11.

  • Your wonderment is absolutely justified- none of the Jasta 11 pilots ever bore the Star of David on their plane. Werner Voss did fly an Albatross (DIII I think, not completely sure though) adorned with a swastika - among other decorations. He of course never was a member of Jasta 11 either. Jasta 10 was his home Staffel while flying in von Richthofens JG1.

  • Yes he flew an Albatros DIII with a swastika surrounded by a laurel wreath and a red heart. But is was not the swastika which is known as the nazi symbol. Instead it was the mirror-inverted 'original' one which was also used by the Finnish Air Force in World War II.

  • Realy? I did not know that.

  • The credits tell that that pilot was a fictional character and pretty much the film makers honoration (can´t find a better word) to all jews serving in Germanies WWI forces.

  • Many German-Jews were and are proud members of the German military. I served in the German Air Force for 2 years, and many of my comrades were Jewish. If you have a problem with Jewish people I suggest you go elsewhere.

  • What? I think you misunderstood me. I was just telling someone who had asked about the plane with the star of david about it.

  • Oh sorry. That is a cool tribute to the Jewish pilots.

  • Oh sorry. That is a cool tribute to the Jewish pilots.

By the way that scene in the begining of the trailer is a British pilot paying tribute to the fallen Red Barorn. The British wanted to pay their respects to their enemy who they greatly respected.

  • Sorry, but the scene in the beginning is actually von Richthofen paying tribute to one of his victims. I´ve seen the movie. ;)

  • Hmm, I have a picture from a Albatos DV wearing a star of David, but this plane is from Jasta 12...

  • check out the english trailer, looks much better in my opinion ..

  • Well, I still want to see it.

  • me too. im just curious about it. but its gonna be a disappointment. there is just no good movie about the red baron. the last one was crappy too.

    blue max rules!

  • looks crappy to me. love story with the nurse, chatting with the enemy? hey, i know the end of the movie! captain brown shoots von richthofen down! but the real end of von richthofen was proven to be in the hands of the australian artillery. i guess every film needs a hero and a nemesis, and chats between them. also, they need pussy

  • Right there with you, mate!

  • Thorough like Das Boot ?

  • A great example for thoroughness in historical accuracy indeed! Unlike most US submarine-movies, Das Boot depicts a stunning degree of historical accuracy. The uniforms, equipment, lingo and character-interaction are correct. The story is plausible yet entirely fictional- not a single character is a real histoical figure. As I said- when it was Mullerschoens idea all along to mess around with R. and bend him to his liking, why not just 'invent' a R.-like ace and have all the liberites he likes?

  • Actually they were historical figures. Lehmann really existed so did U 96

  • Trailers normally highlight the main points of films. If this remains true in this case, then I have my doubts... unfortunately...

  • Uhm ...

  • Could be worse? Could be worse?? How, I pray you, could this blasted movie have turned out any worse than that? They made the Rittmeister a bloody pansy in this flick! No offense buddy, but do you get the crappy German lines with the bad, bad sound editing? I had high hopes for this first real German WWI movie after WWII (not counting Merry Christmas) but that damnable TV-Ad director Muellerschoen blew it all to hell...

[All you Schweighoefer fangirls: come on and have a go at me!]

  • Dude it's not bad sound editing, this film is dubbed (it was made in english in the first place)

the director clearly stated that this film is far away from a documentary and meant to be entertaining only, not informative

pretty much the same bullshit as Flyboys, I think

  • I know man, I know. Regarding the sound editing, I chiefly meant the way Schweighoefer's lines were so bluntly thrown together- they don't even attempt to make it sound like one continuous 'speech'. Usually, when cutters "especially for a trailer" assemble the audio track that way, the 'cuts' between frames match the 'cuts' in the audio- here, they clearly don't. I don't care that much if it sounds like straight from the soundstage, but that just put me off.

  • Additionally, the trailer alone has a buch of historical errors that don't require a nitpicker to recognize them. Schweiger(mid-40s) as Voss (20) is bad casting. He doesn't even look the part. A Lt. calling a Cpt. "Scumbag" in front of other officers would have gotten him court-martialled and locked up. Directly adressing the Kaiser "ihre Majestaet", and the Kaiser directly adressing R. with the 3rd pers. "er" is incorrect. From what I have gotten from their homepage, that list goes on and on.

  • What I mean is this: If they go and take these huge liberties with the actual (well documented) life of von R. with the love story and whatnot, they could at least have taken care to get the simple, little details (decorum, uniforms, etc)right. If they truly don't care, why not just make up a GER Richthofen-like ace? Then they could have taken all the liberties they wanted. It worked well for Pearl Harbor that way. It just pisses me off that these aspects of the film are so unnecesarily inaccurate

  • Oh is it a documentary ?

  • German movies used to take pride in the fact that they are- however fictional certain aspects of the storyline may be, very thorough when it comes to accurately portraying a historical environment. The blunders in this movie are so obvious that every person who has ever picked up a singe book about von R. and received more than a middleschool education on Imperial Germany and 19th century Europe will easily spot them. This may not be a documetary, but the historical adviser deserves to be shunned

  • Flyboys was actually worse, all the DR.1s were painted in the same style as the Barons.

At least this one shows some more accuracy.

  • they had the best crew they could hope for and still f*cked up with the movie.

some people just can't realise what opportunity they have in their hands.

  • @Lethkul it is a movie! Not a documentry. which I personally thought did an excellent job expressing the air war, better than most films I've seen about the air war, you could actually follow it, even if they condenced characters, anti war stuff, love story part, didn't hurt the film too much I personally thought. I sware people were out to hate this film from the begining, even before it came out there were complaining about the movie.
