The damage done by the Luftwaffe during the 3 nights blitz in 1941, is nothing compared to the decades of utter ruination by the planners. The clearance of the heart of the old town after the blitz left a blank canvas. With a little flair and foresight, they could've created a picturesque, welcoming, european pedestrianized style, lush green town centre. Instead they went for concrete monstrosities and wide roads. Castle Gardens shouldn't have been turned into a skate park either!!
trees in the city and parks are being cut down at hell of a rate and the council has sold off all the playing fields, the stadium has now got a shopping center on it and a green field site has been sold and the swansea city football club has placed an monstrosity of a stadium on it.
Swansea is a total fuck up curtesy of the most corrupt council in the country anything thats green or living eg sand dunes, pidgeons, seagulls trees ect has been removed or destroyed by them.
Shopping is shit in swansea the council is corrupt they remove important things in swansea destroyed forever example worlds oldest railway the railway bridge over oystermouth rd, the noweigian church they removed the sand dunesoff beaches they pasted concreate over everything removed castle gardens they then removed all the roundabouts place cams and traffic lights everywhere totally screwed up the road system they also placed a dump at port tennant next to a natural bog largest in the country.
I'm from and love Swansea, but the council is spending money in the wrong places. Sort out High street and the surrounding area around the train station. Move the fucking scraps, heroin addicts and pissheads from the first point of contact people have with Swansea as soon as they get off the train and a message to those who ask me everytime i come home - No I don't have money to pay for a train fare to neath. Get a fuckin job and stop begger for beer money.
Well noticed Richard, Before you pass comment next time check out all the videos of Swansea. Common sense would tell you that you can't do Swansea justice in one video.
I spent a lot of time in Swansea between 1987-1994, never thought it was that bad. Though when you're living in a village with perhaps 20 houses it did seem like a big place. I was amazed at the changes I saw of Swansea on Google maps.
the government has ruined swansea now, old swansea of the 60's to 90's was much much much better than today, i remember goin to watch my sisters compete in the morfa, and she became the welsh hurdlin champion of wales, i was only born in the 90's but old swansea looks so much better now :P my father couldnt believe what he was seeing when i showed him this video haha
Shame you didn't actually watch & read before you made such a stupid bunch of comments. This video is 4 years old & asks Is it still a pretty shitty city. As it was once called. Even the song gives a clue about it's changes. Never mind, you stick to what clearly your passion. SCFC. I might just give you a wave from the commentry box one day. Remember, A picture speaks a thousand words. As shown in Video, it's how Swansea looked in the past. As for the Swans.......... Come on you Jacks. S.T.I.D.
i'm thinking of applying at the local university. I'm between swansea, manchester and london. London i probably can't afford but between manchester and swansea which is the most beatuful city? (if we suppose that both universities are equally good)
Swansea. From the city centre you are equally 5 minutes away from th ebest beaches in the UK, countryside, hills, half an hour from mountains. ~Just look up the Gower peninsula. Plus you are just 2 hours away from London on the train. Get the Swansea University prospectus for the course you want to study.
i miss the old castle gardens it was beautiful on a summers day feeding the the birds when i was a kid with my nan and i miss the old The Castle Cinema the seats were great unlike those horrible hard plastic ones in todays cinemas plus the pit cheap beer + cheap women
They spent all that money on that one way system to use those disgusting 'bendy busses' and then they reveal they're getting rid of them!! 'kin waste of our money, 'kin idiots!!
I was visiting London in 1998 and decided to get on a train and ride it until the end of the line and wound up in Swansea.I thought it was a great little town. But then again I'm from America so everything in Europe is coo.
i know its a shitty city, but I still love it! The trip down memory lane brought a nostalgic lump in my throat... Today, too much concrete, sunbeds and steroids... Bit like Cardiff really... now there's a horrible thought
they fucked the kingsway right up it takes 15 minutes to get from one side to the other because of that shitty one way system, the old kingsway would take about 40 seconds,. what a fucking mess thats all i have to say .
Do u know ive just watched this film and our county council should be shot for what theyve ruined in our city, the Councillers stting in their lovely office in the county hall should be disgusted with the rape of swansea what theyve done they should all be sacked, now they want to be rid of the old brige next to the slipway, the mumbles train was what they got rid of before, Swansea City Council watch this film and look at what youve ruined
Nothing wrong with Swansea city it has everything beautiful market and great town. Its the vermins shit that live there and around it (sorry apologies to vermins shit.)
The crap that goes there ruins a great place, get rid of them and it would be a good place to live, of course that means there would be no SO CALLED humans left.
Great video, 5 stars well done. This video deserve full credit. When I look at the history of Swansea and see how it has changed so much makes e want to cry. When I look back then and see Swansea now I find myself saying the City Council has ruined it. It will never be the same. Lot's of history here and gone for ever. Thanks to this viewer we can always remember by playing this video. One thing our Council can not take away, great memories.
Jesus christ castle gardens has changed ALOT lol i didnt even recognise it. swansea has changed so much i hope it doesnt change to much later on in the years cos some of my best memories are here and in town
i really miss the morfa thats where as a baby i used to go to watch my sisters running and just sit in the middle of the track not the track but the grass in like the early 90's to late 90's my sister was the welsh hurddling champion also in scotland and ireland and thats whn i took up hurddling !! she met colin jackson and all the pro athletes back then
I was born in Swansea and now live elsewhere. The thing that's always bemused me about Swansea is that it has the potential to be beautiful. It's also got a lot of important history - the site of the world's very first passenger railway, the world's first electrically powered tram, biggest cooper smelting area in the world, and so on. But very few people living there know any of this and the tourism board and City Council don't seem to think it's important.
that was lovely, really interesting, haven't lived in swansea for ten years now but was born there and lived there until i was 21. great to see thanks :)
What an interesting video. David Evans brought a tear to my eye as my Mum worked there for years and has recently passed away. The buildings look sad. It would be nice if you included some more of the beauty of Swansea such as the beaches, Gower, the Mumbles etc. Loved the accompanying song. Cheers from a Swansea resident of 30+ years
Yeah, Wow, look at how Swansea ha changed. I love this video, it's great. 5-stars. Well done for posting mate. Outstanding, Cezie2006 from Stunning Jack City...
I am an international student, currently living in Swansea, since 2005, fortunately my Course will be over in 3 months.
Here are so many Low lifes and underdogs!
The poverty of the Swansea people pisses me off.
I am coming from an academic family and we are quite rich, therefore I like to wear expensive clothes. Many times no-goods tried to start a fight with because of enviousness.
Life is getting better here, but is still far away from the middle europe standard!!!
No it's not Swansea that has the problem, it's you. If you're dull enough to walk out infront of poor people wearing smart clothes, then you're dull enough to get beat up. Every city has poor people living in it, just look at London you little pretty boy. This city is'nt shit, people don't understand the definition of "shit", this city has just be underfunded by a biast Cardiff goverment. The appeal is getting better here, if middle europe is so good why don't you piss off back there?
Thank you so very much for posting that video, it is truly wonderful to see and the music is so fitting. Swansea is and always will perfect in my eyes!
I actually like what there doing to Swansea. I do not live in Swansea but near it. The last time i went there was for the WRC in SA1 Development area and all i can say is that It's changed alot. There is currently alot of work going on there and it's causing alot of traffic, but i still think it's all for the best. Thanks for the video.
I grew up in Swansea and remember a lot of the scenes with fondness. Ah the Kingsway on a Saturday night...brilliant! Still is I'm sure. Live in Toronto now but still think of Swansea, the Gower and getting hammered on a Saturday night and scoring with a beautiful Swansea girl...
I lived in Swansea for a short time, this has brought back many happy memories. Thank you very much. Everyone in Swansea was so friendly, it has a place in my heart.
I don't know which looked better, the old castle gardens or the new castle gardens?
I think Swansea's beginning to look far better! The City centre still looks awful, but the SA1 development is just one area that's making us look good.
its shocking to see how much things have changed from years ago they should have kept castle gardens the way it was it was beautifull back then. but as the song says everything must change lol.
Unfortunately, most of the people I know from Swansea are insular navel gazers who can;t see father than their own noses and believing that nothing of interest or value exists outside of Swansea. But, this video is great and top marks for that!
