STi has forged rods, but not forged pistons standard. The ring lands would have cracked leading to piston failure. Forged pistons are the way to go if you're developing a lot of power or you risk a fairly catastrophic piston failure.
@Projectimportcom Exactly! Any vehicle is going to "break" without proper care and attention. Especially a performance car like an Evo or an STi. They are built to be driven hard and in turn maintenance is vital!
@Sandeep9201 I've also heard the 08's and up (I think all the way to 10's) had a bad tune as well. STI pistons hold up decently to mild performance (400 hp) w/ proper tune and maintenance like Projectimportcom said. They have hypereutetic pistons that don't like a lot of boost or detonation. If you're that worried about it, either buy and older one and have the engine rebuilt w/ forged internals or find a blown shortblock cheap and build it up like I plan on doing.

@Sandeep9201 ive drive a 2001 Bugeye STI now 216000 km. And a 2006 Hawkeye STI now with 146000km. They run and run and run.
My Evo 7 goes 35000km and then i crashed it against a tree. The tree was much stronger ;-)
